Abstract

Loneliness is a common symptom that every individual can feel. Research on loneliness began to develop almost all over the world, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the main focuses is the development of loneliness instruments for instrument renewal. Participant; this instrument was tested on 683 high school students in Bandung. Result; analysis of the instrument using the RASCH model produces a Cronbach's alpha value of 0.77 which is in the excellent category, with item reliability of 0.99 in the particular category and personal reliability of 0.79, which is included in the excellent category. The conclusion is that this loneliness instrument can be used for further research.

Abstract

Background Childhood cancer and its treatment affects not only children’s health, but also children’s and families’ psychosocial function, relationship, emotion, and quality of life. Several studies in developed countries have been conducted to address this issue using the Family Adaptation and Cohesion Scales (FACES) III and the Situation-Specific Emotional Reaction Questionnaire (SSERQ). Screening psychosocial problems is crucial as part of cancer comprehensive care. Objective To investigate the dynamics of family functioning, parental cancer-related emotions, and to evaluate possible associations with the child's quality of life. Methods This cross-sectional study was done in child with cancer aged 0-18 years. Parents completed the validated Indonesian versions of three sets of questionnaires regarding subjects’ quality of life (PedsQL), family function (FACES III), and family cancer-related emotions (SSERQ). Validity and reliability tests were done to assess the Indonesian versions of the questionnaires. Results A total of 269 subjects were recruited. Parental proxy of PedsQL evaluations revealed that the 8-12-year-old age group had significantly lower score than the other groups (P=0.014). Solid tumor subjects had significantly lower PedsQL score compared to subjects with hematological malignancy (P=0.001). The FACES III questionnaire results showed that connected families tended to have better PedsQL score based on children’s evaluation compared to disengaged families (P=0.049). No significant difference was found between adaptability of family function and PedsQL score. The SSERQ revealed significant associations between negative emotions and lower PedsQL scores in the children (all P=0.000). Conclusions Parental proxy of PedsQL scores were significantly lower in older children (8 to 12 years). Children with connected families have significantly higher PedsQL scores than disengaged families, for the PedsQL children’s evaluation. Parents’ emotions (loneliness, helplessness, and uncertainty) experienced by a family member of a child with cancer are also correlated with lower PedsQL scores by both evaluations.

Abstract

The problem of low reading culture is one of the important issues in understanding the low level of literacy of Indonesian people. In addition to the low interest in reading, students' interest in visiting the library is still low. This can occur due to lack of reading material, then the available reading material does not vary so that it causes students to be lazy to read. So it is necessary to get used to the culture of reading in order to increase interest starting among early childhood. The partner of this activity is the Study Group in the South Tambun area. In the implementation there are five cycles of stages ranging from observation, counseling, training, mentoring and evaluation. The results of this activity all cycles involve an active role between the team and partners in developing the reading room corner. The enthusiasm for the existing reading room corner was welcomed with pleasure from teachers, students who felt facilitated and the realization of the reading room corner and the general public in the environment around the partner location.

Abstract

Introduction: Patients with tumor usually show abnormal laboratory coagulation tests, indicating a subclinical hypercoagulable state that contributes to morbidity and mortality. Hematologic markers such as the platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) can be used as an index of tumor progression, high PLR is associated with morbidity and mortality in patients with primary or metastatic tumors. KPS is a method that is widely used to assess the functional status of a patient. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between coagulation profile and platelet-lymphocyte with Karnofsky Performance Status Scale in Brain Tumor Patients. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design using primary data sources taken consecutively from all brain tumor patients who were hospitalized in Inpatient Room at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan who met the inclusion criteria. The parameters analyzed were Prothrombin Time (PT), Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT), D dimer (DD), and PLR. Clinical outcome of brain tumor patients was assessed using KPS. To assess the relationship between coagulation marker factors and the ratio of platelets to lymphocytes to KPS, the Spearman and Gamma tests were used. Results: Of the 30 research subjects analyzed, the number of female subjects was comparable to that of males (50%). The highest age is in the age range of 61-70 years by 30%. The highest level of education was high school at 40%, the most research subjects were housewives at 33.3% and the most types of brain tumors were primary brain tumors at 56.7%. The highest KPS score during treatment was found in the <70 group of 76.7%. From the correlation test, it was found that there was a strong, significant relationship between the values of PT (p<0.02 r = -0.731), APTT (p<0.013 r = -0.761), D-dimer (p<0.001 r = -0.737) and PLR (p<0.001 r = 0.78) on the clinical outcome of brain tumor patients assessed by KPS. Conclusion: There is a strong relationship between PT, APTT, D-dimer and PLR values on KPS in patients with brain tumor.

Abstract

Persoalan rendahnya budaya baca merupakan salah satu isu penting dalam memahami rendahnya tingkat literasi masyarakat Indonesia. Selain rendahnya minat membaca, minat siswa mengunjungi perpustakaan masih rendah.

Abstract

This study focused on implementing Daily Journal as a student’s writing activity. The study's objective is to impact the implementation of a daily journal on students' writing skills. The research method used in this study is quantitave. The subject of the study was 32 students majoring in English Education in one of Islamic University in Indonesia. Participants will take a pre and post-test and from there the researcher can compare their vocabulary and grammar skills in written form. The results of both tests will be subjected to a two-sample paired t-test analysis conducted using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software program. The test resulted in a significance value of 5%, providing sufficient evidence for a statistical change in post-treatment testing. The results of this study indicate that Daily Journal is an effective tool in enhancing English writing skills among the students in university level.
