Abstract

Illegal gold mining activities still frequently occur in the Kuantan River, which is one of the main rivers in the district of Kuantan Singingi, Riau. This activity causes environmental contamination of mercury (Hg). The objective of this research was to determine the contamination of Hg in river water, well water, sediment and fish (baung and kapiek) in the Kuantan River, Riau. Samples were taken at up, middle and downstreams of the Kuantan River. Mercury was analized by following APHA and Indonesian National Standard (SNI) methods. The results were compared with the quality standard of pollution. The results showed that average of Hg concentration in river water, well water, sediment and fish were 0,0325 mg/l, 0,0202 – 0,0231 mg/l, 0,2083 mg/kg, 0,1141 - 0,1224 mg/kg. Statistical analysis indicated that the concentration of Hg in river water, well water (middle and downstream) and sediment were above the quality standard, while in the samples of baung and kapiek were below the quality standard. Hg concentrations significantly increased from up to downstream locations in river water and sediment, Hg concentrations significantly increased in 2 community wells in middle and downstream locations, significant Hg concentration was found in kapiek caught in midstream locations, while there was no significantly at the Hg concentration of baung in the research location.

Abstract

Perkembangan penduduk di kawasan perkotaan berpotensi dapat mengurangi fungsi hutan kota, seperti di Hutan Kota Kaombona, Palu. Mengingat bahwa pentingnya Hutan Kota Kaombona sebagai pengendali iklim mikro di kawasan perkotaan, monitoring kerapatan vegetasi serta prediksi suhu permukaan lahan perlu dilakukan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji variasi kerapatan vegetasi terhadap suhu permukaan di Hutan Kota Kaombona. Penelitian ini menggunakan permodelan spasial dengan Google Earth Engine (GEE) dan ArcGIS 10.8. Bahan yang digunakan adalah Citra Sentinel 2A dan Citra Landsat 8 OLI perekaman tahun 2024. Perhitungan kerapatan vegetasi dengan algoritma Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) dan prediksi suhu permukaan menggunakan perhitungan Land Surface Temperature (LST). Hasil menunjukkan bahwa Hutan Kota Kaombona memiliki kerapatan vegetasi dan suhu permukaan lahan yang bervariasi. Kerapatan vegetasi didominasi oleh kategori sangat rapat sebesar ±29,59 ha (45%). Distribusi suhu permukaan lahan di Hutan Kota Kaombona sekitar 28 - 44oC. Suhu hangat dan nomal mendominasi Hutan Kota Kaombona sekitar 26-35oC. Kerapatan vegetasi dan suhu permukaan di Hutan Kota Kaombona menunjukkan pengaruh yang cukup signifikan yakni sebesar 34,55%. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi dasar evaluasi untuk menemukan rekomendasi solusi pengembangan Hutan Kota Palu yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study aimed to detect mangrove cover, analyze spatio-temporal changes, and assess mangrove health conditions in South Banawa District, Donggala Regency, using multi-temporal Sentinel-2A imagery. Mangrove detection was conducted using a machine learning based Decision Tree algorithm, while mangrove health was evaluated using the Mangrove Health Index (MHI). The variables included spectral bands and multiple spectral indices (NDVI, NDBI, MNDWI, CMRI, NBR, GCI, SIPI, and ARVI). The classification model demonstrated very high performance, with Overall Accuracy, Kappa, and F1-Score values exceeding 98%. The results indicated a decline in mangrove area from 123.96 ha to 95.5 ha, equivalent to a loss of 28.46 ha (22.96%) during the observation period. Degradation was spatially concentrated in areas with high accessibility and proximity to shrimp farming activities. Despite this decline, mangrove conditions were predominantly classified as healthy (87.56%), followed by moderate (12.41%) and poor (0.03%) categories. MHI-based mitigation strategies prioritize low-index areas for restoration through hydrological rehabilitation and buffer zone establishment, while healthy areas are primarily focused on conservation and periodic monitoring. This approach supports data-driven conservation planning, restoration prioritization, and sustainable coastal management based on remote sensing and machine learning.

Abstract

Background: Program peremajaan Kkelapa Ssawit Rrakyat (PSR) menghadapi tantangan serius dari hama kumbang tanduk (Oryctes rhinoceros L.). Kumbang Tanduk, hama utama yang merusak tanaman sawit muda dengan menggerek titik tumbuh dan pangkal daun. Hal ini menghambat pertumbuhan dan menyebabkan kematian pada fase TBM. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan petani dalam pengendalian dan penggunaan perangkap hama kumbang tanduk. Metode: Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan di Desa Tabarano, Kecamatan Mori Utara, Kabupaten Morowali Utara untuk memperkenalkan dan menerapkan teknik Pengendalian Hama Terpadu (PHT) terhadap O. rhinoceros. Kegiatan meliputi survei lapangan untuk mengidentifikasi serangan hama, penyuluhan, pelatihan dan evaluasi keberhasilan kegiatan. Hasil: Hasil survei menunjukkan gejala khas serangan kumbang tanduk, seperti pelepah patah, lubang pada batang, dan kematian titik tumbuh. Rata-rata peningkatan pengetahuan petani yang memahami pengendalian terpadu hama O. rhinoceros mencapai 94,5%. Uji friedman dan wilcoxon menunjukan penurunan O. rhinoceros pada perangkap feromon yang signifikan. Kesimpulan: Kegiatan penyuluhan mengenai pengendalian terpadu hama kumbang tanduk meningkatkan pengetahuan dalam pengendalian hama kumbang tanduk dan penerapan perangkap feromon menurunkan populasi hama pada perkebunan kelapa sawit petani.
