Abstract

This research discusses discoveries, denotatives, connotatives and myths in literary works, a novel entitled The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. The theory used is the concept of semiotics according to Roland Barthes who proposed the concept of the developed theory from Ferdinand de Saussure developed by Barthes which was designed to determine denotatives, connotative and myth to the theory which means a way of interpreting fiction and non-fiction. Because the object of this research is a written work (fiction), no field survey was carried out and only library research. The subject of the author's focus is Denotative, Connotative and Myth that appear in the figure of Mary Magdalene narrated in this novel. Documentation is used with the terms of findings and savings the datum that consider as the one that can be identified and analyzied by the researchers. The researchers try to open, analyse and describe the figure of Mary Magdalene that is related with Christianity, Jesus and the Holy Grail using Barthes. The result or the output of the research is that there are five data containing and considering as the example of Barthes concept of Denotation, Connotatioan dan Myth with several reasonings. In this case, identifying an object is the figure of Maria Magdalene in the Novel The Da Vinci Code.Keywords: Myth, Maria Magdalene, Holy Grail, Barthes

Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of icons, indexes, and symbols contained in the song "Ikat Aku di Tulang Belikatmu" by Sal Priadi. This research can be useful for people because it serves to express the song from the lyrics of the song itself and has the same feeling of the meaning of the song lyrics. The theory used in this study is the sign system theory with a semiotic approach proposed by Charles Sander Peirce. Where this theory can divide the sign system into three parts namely icons, indexes, and symbols. The method used is the Content Analysis method. Content Analysis is research that is a discussion of the contents of written or printed information in mass media and uses the theory of semiotic science in analyzing signs in songs. Thus, it can be concluded that each song in the lyrics has different signs and meanings. These differences have given different interpretations.

Abstract

This study examined literary works of the Abbasid era, focusing on narratives from 1001 Nights and Kalila Wa Dimna. It tried to contribute to the understanding of Abbasid literature. Through textual analysis and library research, the study explored the cultural and social dimensions of the era. It used a descriptive qualitative method. The findings revealed there were frequent use of personifications and metaphoric existed in both literary works, which enhanced characterization and conveyed moral lessons. The narratives from 1001 Nights and Kalila Wa Dimna provide captivating stories that entertain readers and offer insights into human experiences and wisdom. In conclusion, there were limitations in the reliability of the narratives and the subjective nature of the evaluation. Keywords: Abbasid era, 1001 Nights, Kalila Wa Dimna, personification, metaphor

Abstract

Makalah ini menganalisis sepuluh puisi terpilih dari Al-Khansa dan Hassan ibn Thabit, dua penyair paling berpengaruh dalam era Khilafah Rasyidah, melalui pendekatan budaya. Analisis ini menyoroti bagaimana puisi berfungsi sebagai medium ekspresi budaya, terutama dalam konteks kehormatan kesukuan, kesedihan atas kematian, dan transisi menuju identitas Islam. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kultural, studi ini menyelidiki bagaimana kedua penyair mencerminkan transformasi masyarakat dari norma-norma pra-Islam menuju nilai-nilai spiritual Islam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Al-Khansa melalui ratapan duka dan Hassan ibn Thabit melalui pujian-pujian religius memainkan peran penting dalam membentuk budaya sastra Islam awal.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to interpret the values ​​of religiosity in the film Laskar Pelangi by Andrea Hirata. The study uses a semiotic research method. This method is used to describe the contents expressed or implied in the film. The findings of the research on the value of religiosity in the film Laskar Pelangi are in essence an author's attempt to help the reader realize his values. The value of religiosity includes human personal life in relation to God. These values ​​are contained in dialogues and images. The dialogue presented in the film, partly comes from the teachings of Islam. The film also depicts scenes of exemplary figures and worship practices. The film Laskar Pelangi provides a moral message that encourages viewers to change into better personalities and noble morals. The results of the study are expected to be an input for the public to be able to use film as a means to take positive messages in self improvement and the surrounding environment.
