Abstract

Globalization has encouraged the enhancement of media, so that various kinds of information are accessible. Hence, Japan is utilizing media to promote their pop culture globally. One of the countries whose media is influenced by Japanese pop culture is China. This study aims to determine the mediascapes of Japanese pop culture in Chinese drama series, specifically the ones that are adapted from Zhao Qianqian’s works; A Love So Beautiful (2017) and Put Your Head on Your Shoulder (2019). Theory used in this study is mediascapes–one of the five dimensions in Arjun Appadurai’s disjuncture globalization theory. The method of this research is descriptive analysis with qualitative approach. This study shows that mediascapes of Japanese pop culture can be identified through images of some anime characters that appear in A Love So Beautiful and Put Your Head on My Shoulder drama series. These images are shown to attract Chinese people’s interest of Japanese pop culture as well as to construct the idea of Japan’s positive image.

Abstract

Gender inequality has been an issue in Japanese employment. This issue is then being reflected by media in Japan through drama series such as Hope: Kitai Zero no Shinnyu Shain. Hope: Kitai Zero no Shinnyu Shain told about a rookie worker and his comerades whom tried so hard to work in trading company. This research aimed to identify and explain how female workers were represented in Hope: Kitai Zero no Shinnyu Shain drama series through the characterization of Kazuki Akane and Shiraishi Ryoko. This research is qualitative descriptive research. To analyze data, this research used semiotic approach by Roland Barthes. The result showed that female workers in the drama series were represented as 1) ones whose main role gender was in domestic sphere; 2) ones who supported male counterparts; 3) subordinates who had lower position than male counterparts. Therefore, this representation reflected gender inequality that occured between male workers and female workers.

Abstract

Stereotypes shown by the media have influenced how society constructs their perspective on gender. Japanese television program that contained gender stereotypes is Daughter of Lupin (2019) drama series. This research aims to identify and explain gender stereotypes shown in Daughter of Lupin through the characterization of Mikumo Hana. This research is qualitative descriptive and it uses semiotic approach by Roland Barthes to analyze data. The result shows that Daughter of Lupin drama series has two types of gender stereotypes, which are traditional gender stereotypes and shifted gender stereotypes. It indicates that Daughter of Lupin is not fully breaking down the traditional gender stereotypes, but is also keeping some of them.

Abstract

Kawaii bunka is about something that has cute, funny and childish impression. The concept of kawaii bunka is not only found in anime and manga characters, but is also shown in maid cafes in Japan, in which one of the most popular maid cafe in Japan is @Home Cafe Akihabara. This research aims to examine what kind of forms of kawaii bunka that can be found in @Home Cafe Akihabara through Visiting Japanese Maid Cafe | @Home Cafe Akihabara | ASMR vlog. This research is descriptive qualitative research and uses theory of kawaii bunka by Kinsella. The result of this research shows that kawaii bunka in @Home Cafe Akihabara is reflected through the maid's handwriting in polaroid photos, the uniforms worn by the maids, the food and drinks served, the behavior and identity of the maids, the demographics of the waiters and visitors who come, and the products and services offered by @Home Cafe Akihabara. These aspects emphasize childish sentiments, so it can be understood that there is a narrative in which maid cafes are places where visitors can feel and act childishly.

Abstract

Ganbaru is a value that has been deeply rooted in Japanese society, even it has been quite known well globally. Ganbaru is often described as having an attitude of hard work and never giving up. The value of ganbaru has been widely represented through anime. One of them is the anime called The Wind Rises (2013). This research aims to examine the value of ganbaru as depicted through the character Horikoshi Jiro in The Wind Rises. The Wind Rises is an anime film produced by Studio Ghibli which tells the life of Horikoshi Jiro, an airplane designer from Japan during the World War, and his struggle to make an advanced airplane. This research is descriptive qualitative research which uses the ganbaru concept in analyzing the data. The research results show that Jiro displays ganbaru values ​​through the attitudes of 1) working hard and being patient; and 2) insisting of having his way. Thus, it can be understood that Jiro is a representation of ganbaru values ​​in Japanese society.

Abstract

Perubahan demografi di Jepang mengakibatkan kurangnya sumber daya manusia di banyak sektor, salah satunya keperawatan. Menanggapi permasalahan ini Jepang menjalin kerjasama dengan Indonesia melalui IJ-PEA (Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement) untuk mengirim tenaga perawat ke Jepang sejak tahun 2008. Kegiatan pengmas ini bertujuan slot deposit 5000 untuk memberikan pelatihan khusus kepada para calon PMI ners dan careworker untuk meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa sehingga mengurangi kesulitan mereka dalam berkomunikasi selama bekerja. Seminar dilakukan secara interaktif dengan sistem role-play sehingga memberikan wawasan mengenai budaya komunikasi Jepang. Meskipun sebelum kegiatan dilaksanakan banyak peserta mengalami kesulitan dalam belajar kana dan kanji, namun sebanyak 85,6% dari total 118 peserta mengungkapkan bahwa kegiatan seminar dan workshop memberikan kebermanfaatan bagi mereka. Ini menunjukkan bahwa dengan metode pembelajaran yang memenuhi kebutuhan peserta permasalahan language barrier dan gegar budaya dapat diminimalisir. Oleh karena itu penyelenggaraan kelas peningkatan keterampilan khusus seperti ini sangat dibutuhkan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi para calon perawar yang hendak merintis karir di Jepang.
