Abstract

Lactobacillus casei is a probiotic bacteria that has an important role in maintaining body health, but its use in liquid preparations is still constrained by shelf life. This study aims to determine the effect of temperature and drying time of wet granulation method on the physical and viability of probiotic granules. This research begins with increasing bacterial biomass and then harvesting the bacteria using centrifuge. Bacteria are encapsulated using 2% alginate and mannitol as fillers. It was dried at a temperature and time variation of 13 test formulas that had been designed by central composite design. The optimal temperature and drying time of probiotic granules obtained from Response Surface Methodology is 45 ° C for 2 hours.

Abstract

Abstract SMK Swadaya Global School is a Vocational High School in Pharmacy located in East Jakarta. This activity aims to educate students on the production of eco-friendly liquid detergent made from lerak and methyl ethyl sulfonate (MES). Lerak-based detergent, which contains saponin, serves as a natural alternative to replace chemical detergents that are harmful to the environment. MES, as a natural surfactant, was chosen because it is more environmentally friendly compared to synthetic surfactants. The community service was carried out by providing material that teaches students how to make liquid detergent from these natural ingredients, while also giving them an understanding of the benefits of using nature-based products to preserve the environment. The evaluation of the activity was conducted by measuring the level of knowledge and achievement of the set goals. Students showed enthusiasm and active participation throughout the activity. The analysis results indicate a significant increase in knowledge (p<0,05) between the pre-activity average score (20.00) and post-activity score (93.60). Additionally, direct observation also showed an improvement in engagement and a deeper understanding among the participants. It is hoped that this program will raise students' awareness of the importance of switching to eco-friendly products and contribute to environmental preservation. Keywords: education; liquid detergent; lerak; methyl ethyl sulfonate; eco-friendly.
