Abstract

The problem discussed in this study is how to improve learning outcomes and student learning activities using the discovery learning method with colloidal system material for class XI MIPA SMA IT Istiqomah Temanggung. This study aims to improve the learning outcomes and learning activities of XI MIPA SMA IT Istiqomah Temanggung students about colloidal system material using discovery learning methods. The research data were obtained from 18 students in class XI MIPA SMA IT Istiqomah Temanggung. When the research was conducted in semester 2 of the 2022/2023 school year. This classroom action research was conducted for 2 cycles. The collection of material understanding data was measured by understanding tests and student learning activities were measured by observing student learning activities. Data analysis was grouped based on data on students who were able to achieve KKM on student learning outcomes and learning activities. The Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) for chemistry subject class XI is 70. The learning outcomes of students in cycle 1 who achieved KKM were 7 students (39%). In cycle 2 there was an increase in student learning outcomes to 15 students (83%) who achieved KKM. Student learning activities consist of 3 aspects, namely the aspect of discussion ability, learning interaction and presenting the results of the discussion. From the observations of student learning activities in cycle 1, there were 7 students (39%) who achieved KKM scores. In cycle 2 student learning activities increased to 18 students (100%) who achieved KKM scores.

Abstract

People have historically utilized temurui leaves to treat diabetes and diarrhoea. This study aimed to determine the temurui leaf extract's antioxidant properties. Antioxidant activity was examined on methanol, ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts of temurui leaves using the FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) and DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl) techniques spectrophotometrically at wavelengths of 720 and 517 nm, respectively. Antioxidant activity parameters were measured based on the IC50 value. The results showed that methanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane extracts of temurui leaves had relatively weak antioxidant activity with IC50 values of 179,745±4,26; 189,730±15,403; and 282,244±12,297 mg/L (DPPH method) and 287,305±19,054; 344,809±63,907; 505,065±32,567 mg/L (FRAP method), respectively. Therefore, methanol extract of temurui leaves has the potential as a better antioxidant than n-hexane and ethyl acetate extracts. The UPLC-QTof-MS/MS analysis indicated that the methanol extract of these leaves consists of 13 chemicals such as phenolic, steroid, and alkaloid groups which are closely related to its antioxidant properties.   Keywords:  Murraya koenigii L spreng, Antioxidant, DPPH, FRAP, UPLC-MS

Abstract

Rendahnya kesadaran masyarakat terhadap bahan tambahan pangan dan zat kimia dalam jajanan kemasan dapat menimbulkan risiko kesehatan, khususnya di kalangan anak-anak dan orang tua di wilayah pedesaan. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan literasi kimia pangan melalui kegiatan sosialisasi edukatif yang interaktif. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Desa Bagan Serdang, Kecamatan Pantai Labu, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan riset tindakan, dilakukan tes awal dan tes akhir untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas intervensi. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam tingkat pengetahuan peserta, di mana hampir seluruh peserta memperoleh skor tertinggi pada tes akhir. Tingkat pemahaman tinggi dapat dilihat pada tes akhir yang mencapai 100% yaitu terdapat pada soal nomor 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, dan 9, sedangkan yang tidak mencapai 100%, hanya terdapat pada soal nomor 3 (86,70%), nomor 6 (73,33%), nomor 8 (80%), dan nomor 10 (93,30%). Sosialisasi interaktif telah berhasil meningkatkan pemahaman mitra tentang bahan tambahan pangan dalam jajanan kemasan.

Abstract

The utilization of waste as a source of catalytic material in biodiesel production continues to be developed, including waste from cockle shells. In this study, the addition of KOH to the suspension of calcined cockle shells was carried out to increase the catalyst activity in biodiesel production through the transesterification reaction. The catalyst was prepared through the following stages: 1) calcination of cockle shells at 900°C for 10 hours, 2) addition of KOH to the suspension of calcined cockle shells with varying K percentages of 1%; 3%; and 5%, then the mixture was calcined at 600°C. The formed catalyst contains the minerals portlandite (Ca(OH)2) and calcite (CaCO3) based on the X-Ray Diffraction test. The addition of KOH to the suspension of calcined cockle shells was successfully carried out through the K content test using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. The K concentration measurement data increased along with the increase in the amount of K added, respectively at 0% K of 2381 ppm, 1% K of 2425 ppm, 3% K of 3183 ppm, and 5% K of 3800 ppm. The basicity of the catalyst was measured by titration using benzoic acid with the result of increasing basicity after the addition of KOH, each basicity of the catalyst 0% K was 1.700 mmol benzoic acid/g, 1% K was 1.700 mmol benzoic acid/g, 3% K was 1.865 mmol benzoic acid/g, and 5% K was 1.965 mmol benzoic acid/g. The catalyst activity test data in biodiesel production showed an increase in the percentage of biodiesel yield, respectively at 0% K of 56.17%, 1% K of 57.72%, 3% K of 76.33%, and 5% K of 76.85%. The catalyst activity also increased based on the measurement data of methyl ester content in biodiesel using Gas Chromatography, respectively at 0% K of 96.42%, 1% K of 97.5%, 3% K of 98.36%, and 5% K of 97.79%. The results show that the catalyst has the potential to be developed and applied in the biodiesel industry as an environmentally friendly catalytic material.
