Abstract

Hypertension is a condition of high blood pressure caused by many factors. One of them is endothelial dysfunction indicated from malondialdehyde (MDA) level. The production of MDA is primarily prevented by endogenous antioxidant such as superoxide dismutase (SOD). This study aimed to identify the differences between level of MDA and the activity of SOD in hypertensive and normotensive. It also aimed to identify the correlation between MDA level and SOD activity in both group. This study was conducted in laboratory of animal physiology FMIPA UNJ on June to September 2015. This research used an Ex-Post facto method with a cross-sectional design. A total of 30 serum samples (N1 = N2 = 15) was examined to identify MDA level and SOD activity. Data of MDA level and SOD activity was analyzed by Mann-Whitney test and t-test, respectively. Correlation between MDA level and SOD activity was analyzed by Pearson Correlation test in normotensive group and by Spearman’s Rho test in hypertensive group. Based on the results, mean value MDA level in normotensive was 0,465±0,118 nmol/mL and in hypertensive is 1,279±0,307 nmol/mL. MDA level in normotensive was significantly different than hypertensive (Sig.=0,000). Mean value SOD activity in normotensive was 2,307±0,739 u/mL, and in hypertensive was 2,131±0,422 u/mL. SOD activity was not significantly different in normotensive and hypertensive (Sig.=0,432). In conclusion, there was no correlation between MDA level and SOD activity in hypertensive and normotensive group.

Abstract

Comics are one of media which can be used for learning purposes. Attractive visual element of comic allowing students to learn about challenging biology concepts. Therefore, this research was aimed to develop concept map based comic as learning media on Nervous System. This study was conducted from April to June 2016 at SMAN 91 Jakarta, using research and development method. There were six steps had been done continuously: need assessment, objective formulation, material development, instruments development, media development, and try-out and revision. The developed product received very good interpretation in all feasibility try-outs. The average of percentage score for feasibility try-out gained from media experts, material experts, small group of students try-out, and for Biology teacher try-out were 86,5%, 92,6%, 85,4%, 85,7%, and 85,5% respectively. The product’s average percentage of feasibility score was 87,1%, which indicated that the product obtained a very good interpretation. As a conclusion, this concept map based comic was qualified as a learning media on Nervous System in senior high school.

Abstract

Monopoly is one of the games that can be applied as a learning media. Modifications of this media were applied so this game intended to informed teacher about students’ cognitive ability and to increase students’ learning stimulus acceptance. The aim of this research was to develop modified monopoly game as learning media on endocrine system. The research was held at Senior High School 1 Jakarta using research and development method. Need assessment, product development, and try-out and revision were the steps in this research. In the try-out and revision step, media expert and material expert were involved as the assessors, meanwhile Biology teacher, and students grade XI at Senior High School 1 Jakarta were performed as the media user. After the whole try out process, the product received the lowest score was 72,67%, and the highest was 94,63%. And the average score was 85,66% that achieved a very good interpretation. The result of this research showed that the modified monopoly game could be utilized as one of learning media on Endocrine System at Senior High School grade XI science.

Abstract

One of factors effecting biology learning result is a selective learning media. A proper media application will solve problems occurred during the learning process. This research was aimed to find out the effect of application of ular tangga game media on biology learning result of senior high school student on human reproductive system. It was conducted at SMA Negeri 99 Jakarta on April to May 2014 using a quasi-experimental method. Two groups of grade XI student selected by purposive sampling then divided into experimental and control group consisted of 30 students. Ular tangga media and powerpoint applied respectively in experimental and control group. The result of cognitive learning test was statistically tested using t-test with α = 0.05. Based on the calculation, it was found that the p value =0.002. Since p < α, the H0 was rejected. This result showed that there was an effect of ular tangga media application on Biology learning result of the topic. As the conclusion, ular tangga game media effected cognitive learning result of students at SMA Negeri 99 Jakarta.
