Abstract

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has made social media more accessible, facilitating digital interactions that shape mindsets and perspectives. However, social media development has also had negative societal impacts. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. Data is obtained through the analysis of Qur'anic texts, interpretations, scholarly opinions, and other literature, focusing on narcissistic attitudes (tabarruj) and legal perspectives, as well as offering solutions to narcissistic behavior on social media platforms. The study aims to analyze how Muslim women present themselves on TikTok, identify manifestations of digital narcissism, examine the social, psychological, and cultural factors influencing this behavior, provide an Islamic perspective on tabarruj in the context of social media, and suggest solutions for more mindful digital engagement. Using a qualitative approach, this research investigates Qur’anic interpretations, scholarly discussions, and various literature related to digital narcissism. The findings indicate that digital narcissism among Muslim women on TikTok is reflected in behaviors such as excessive self-presentation, seeking validation through likes, comments, and followers, and the influence of social media aesthetics in shaping identity. Factors contributing to this behavior include the impact of popular culture, social pressures, and psychological dependence on external validation, which can ultimately diminish self-confidence. Therefore, raising awareness through education is essential to preserving Islamic identity in the digital era. It is hoped that social media users, particularly Muslim women, will be more selective in creating and consuming content while prioritizing moral values and simplicity in online interactions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore Gen Z's perceptions of Islamic identity politics in Indonesia and its impact on their mindset and social life. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method of 62 respondents, the majority of whom are students. Data were collected through a Likert-based questionnaire designed to measure respondents' understanding and views on identity politics. The results showed that 43.5% of respondents considered Islamic identity politics to have the potential to divide society, while 51.6% of respondents considered the use of religious symbols in political campaigns to be quite effective. In addition, 77.5% of respondents acknowledged the major role of social media in shaping their views. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistical methods, which showed a significant relationship between identity politics and Generation Z's mindset and social life. This is manifested by the important role of a more inclusive approach in religious-based political policies in Indonesia. This finding is able to reflect how the younger generation is increasingly aware of complex social and political issues and shows their tendency to assess religious issues more rationally and openly. Therefore, this study provides an important contribution in understanding the dynamics of identity politics from the perspective of the younger generation who will be the main actors in the future of Indonesian democracy.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the legal opinions of Instagram users regarding domestic violence (DV) in Muslim families. The study focuses on how elite figures such as religious leaders, politicians, and influencers express their legal opinions on social media, as well as how these opinions are received, responded to, and reconstructed by netizens. Methods – This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis method. Data was obtained from content on Instagram social media that displayed legal opinions related to domestic violence, including comments from responding netizens. The data was analyzed through three dimensions: text, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice. Findings – The results of the study show that netizens do not necessarily accept legal opinions expressed by elite figures on social media as the sole truth. Instead, netizens actively represent their own understanding, which is often contradictory to the content being presented. The branding of content figures and their ideological backgrounds greatly influence the content and manner of delivery of these legal opinions. Netizens' comments indicate that the digital public sphere plays a significant role in breaking the dominance of patriarchal discourse and creating more emancipatory legal production that focuses on victim protection. Research limitations – The limitation of this study lies in the direct influence of social media content on the public's understanding of the law. Originality/value – This study contributes new insights to the study of Islamic family law and social media by examining the paradigm shift in legal communication in the digital space.
