Abstract

This research aims to find communication patterns conducted by informant and knowing factors that cause Sundanese can survive and shift. This research is qualitative research that collect data using indepth interview. Data resources of this study were a native speaker of Sundanese as well as a student at Ponpes Nurul Hikmah Semarang. This data analysis technique uses an inductive model and translational equivalent methods. The result of this study shows that the informant interacted with people around her neighbours, Banten and in the overseas area, Semarang. Interactions carried out by the informant in Banten were with family, siblings, relatives, and school friends. While interactions in Semarang occured between informant and teachers, fellow students, and college friends. Informant used daily Sundanese or Sunda sedeng when she was in Banten. In Semarang, the frequency of using Bahasa Indonesia is more often than in Banten. The informant also practiced switching code and mixing code between Sundanese and bahasa Indonesia. From the various interactions made by informants, the factors that influence maintaining Sundanese are geographic factors, positive language attitudes, and the environment. Whereas the factors that influence shifting Sundanese are the environment and the second person in the speech act.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan pola komunikasi yang dilakukan informan dan mengetahui faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan bahasa Sunda bertahan dan bergeser. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian kualitatif yang pengumpulan datanya menggunakan metode wawancara mendalam. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah penutur asli bahasa Sunda sekaligus sebagai santri Ponpes Nurul Hikmah Semarang. Teknik analisis data ini menggunakan model induktif dan metode padan translasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa informan berinteraksi dengan orang-orang di sekitar lingkungan tempat tinggalnya, Banten dan di daerah rantau, Semarang. Interaksi yang dilakukan informan di Banten yaitu dengan keluarga, saudara kandung, kerabat, dan teman masa sekolah. Adapun interaksi di Semarang terjadi antara informan dengan guru, sesama santri, dan teman kuliah. Informan dominan menggunakan bahasa Sunda sehari-hari atau bahasa Sunda sedeng ketika di Banten. Saat di Semarang, frekuensi penggunaan bahasa Indonesia lebih sering daripada di Banten. Informan juga melakukan praktik alih kode dan campur kode antara bahasa Sunda dan bahasa Indonesia. Dari berbagai interaksi yang dilakukan informan, faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi bahasa Sunda dapat bertahan adalah faktor geografis, sikap positif bahasa, lingkungan dan mitra tutur, serta perbedaan usia. Adapun faktor yang mempengaruhi pergeseran bahasa Sunda adalah minoritas mitra tutur berbahasa Sunda serta kepentingan dan pemakaian.

Abstract

The research aims to elaborate on the types of figures of speech using the analysis of components of speech and to explain the functions of figures of speech in Emily in Paris Season 1. The researcher applies non-participant observation and note-taking techniques with purposive random sampling. In analyzing the collected data, the researcher applies the content analysis method. The findings show that Emily speaks 10 types of figures of speech, namely simile, metaphor, personification, metonymy, synecdoche, symbol, paradox, hyperbole, understatement, and irony. The employment of these speeches also reveals their function in the conversation of each character. The functions of figures of speech are to give imaginative pleasure, to bring additional imagery, to add emotional intensity, and to say much in a brief compass.
