Abstract

Blue swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) is one of the most important commodities of softshell industry. Besides mud crab its demand as feed is increasing day by day. As a coastal dominant country, Bangladesh has a great feasibility of this species in culture, production, use and export. However, the production contribution from Bangladesh is still from natural sources and far behind in terms of farming, culture and production. Optimization of larval rearing techniques is therefore important to develop intensive hatchery rearing technique for this species. So, this study is aimed to develop larvae production technique of Portunus pelagicus with a better survival rate. Newly hatched first zoeal of Portunus pelagicus were reared using three different diets till second zoeal stage: (Treatment 1= Artemia franciscana umbrella + Rotifer (Brachionus rotundiformis); Treatment 2= Rotifer (B. rotundiformis) and Treatment 3= Artemia franciscana umbrella). Then, Artemia franciscana nauplii were used for all three treatments till they metamorphosed to crab instar. Regularly, water quality parameters were monitored and maintained and the survival and molting to next stages was observed. The result showed that, all the hatched zoea of P. pelagicus could successfully turns into crab instar stage under all the treatment applied, but the highest survival rate 6.08% was found in case of treatment 2 followed by 0.58%, 0.91%, respectively in treatment 1 and 3. In terms of metamorphosis, it took more than 15 and 14 days respectively from zoea 1 to metamorphose into megalopa for treatments 1 and 3, whereas metamorphosis from zoea 1 to megalopa in treatment 2 finished at the 12th day with a higher Larval Stage Index (LSI) value which was 4.9. Finally, at the 15th day larvae were metamorphosed into crablet for treatment 2 and 18 and 16 days required for metamorphosis into crablets for treatment 1 and 3, respectively. However, the larval feed showed a significant effect on growth and survival of P. pelagicus larvae, whereas the earlier larval stage of P. pelagicus rearing with Rotifer (B. rotundiformis) is found as the most suitable diet.

Abstract

The link between leadership styles and managerial efficiency is well established in literature. However, the role of work ethics, particularly as a mediator, is not well explored in sufficient depth. The objective of this research is therefore to study the effects of both gender, and whether work ethics play a mediating role, on the relationships connecting leadership style, organisational culture and managerial efficiency within the oil and gas industry in Yemen. The study utilised a cross-sectional survey design, sampling 297 middle managers from 13 oil and gas firms in Yemen. Data was collected using a structured questionnaire, and results were analysed statistically using the Partial-Least-Squares technique, utilising Smart-PLS 3. software. Empirical results indicated that leadership styles have both positive and direct effects on managerial efficiency. Furthermore, work ethics were found to significantly mediate the relationships between transactional and participative leadership styles, organisational culture, and managerial efficiency. However, the results also showed that work ethics does not significantly mediate between transformational leadership styles (TRL) and managerial efficiency. The study has implications for top management in the oil and gas industry, offering an opportunity to capitalise on enhancing managerial efficiency by encouraging good leadership styles and management practices that would positively enhance efficiency. Such practices should be made part of the organizational culture, with the goal of creating a harmonious working environment that enables and improves the performance of the firm as a whole.

Abstract

The purchasing power in Yemen is gradually decreasing due to the increase in products cost and required an instant solution to meet the demand of the consumers. increase in energy prices and continuous inflation of the national currency presents several challenges to manufacturer interested in competing in the local market, in order to keep up with the market they should make changes that make improvements in products etc. low-cost package, production, and transportation a top priority for product development. In this research study the author attempt to use quantitative and qualitative research method, plan and execute fieldwork, collecting data form products’ local market, local factories (Arwa plastic industry), the ministry of industry & trade, etc. in Yemen, during fieldwork. During data collection and fieldwork, the author will visit the ministry of industry and trade to meet the representative to get the requested data of local industries and imports of raw materials for products packaging, then the author will visit capital city of Yemen (Sana’a) ,Taiz and Hodeida industrial zones to meet the representative of local factories to collect the data of products’ packaging raw materials along with the local market, after that the author will visit a local plastic production factory (Arwa plastic industry ltd) to support the study of changing over from rigid heavy packaging to adaptable packaging . The author will also prepare a research questionnaire for manufacturer and customers to substantiate the research with evidence. Finally, the author will visit Yemen General Union of heavy Transport, to collect data of road freight. Finally, after collecting required data, the author will analyse and identify the extent of the manufacturer ability to switch from traditional heavy packaging’s to the most convenient product in terms of weight, ease of manufacturing without the need for a lot of energy, In addition to its lightweight suitable to provide less transport value and space because of the flexibility of the product as well as the extent to which the customer accepts the new product that suits his income and expectations, also preserving the environment from pollution. After analysing data and identifying findings, the author found that if the manufacturer shift to flexible, lightweight products’ packages can reduce fright and storage costs significantly as well as retail prices.

Abstract

If one asks today whether Yemen can be extended by railway lines, it is natural to answer that the geographical nature of Yemen does not allow the extension of the railway line. It is surprising that the Ottoman Empire decided more than 100 years ago to complete this project, but the fall of the empire deprived Yemenis of this Great achievement. Under the title of establishing a modern network of railways for metals, goods and passengers, in recent years, practical steps have been taken to establish a railway network in Yemen and linking it to an international network of economic feasibility studies, but the railway project in Yemen is still just studies prepared by several companies. In 2013 there were talks between the Yemeni government and Russia, the outcome of the Yemeni-Russian talks committee was for the planning of the establishment of a local company in Yemen specializing in railways Under the supervision of the Russian leadership, a project that is the first of its kind as it aims to build an infrastructure. In this research paper the author attempt to use quantitative and qualitative research method, plan and execute fieldwork, collecting data from Competent ministerial bodies, ministry of transportation, Visit the specified area of the project) mineral wealth areas, coastal areas) etc. in Yemen, during fieldwork. Compile preliminary maps of the first alternative - Shahn / Aden and the second alternative - Muscat / Salalah / Sarfeet / Algheiza / Aden. During fieldwork and data collection, the author will visit ministry of transportation to meet the representative to get the requested data of the Proposed railway project along with Yemen land transportation affairs authority, then the author will visit designated area of the proposed project to meet the local authorities of each area to collect the data and discussing the main causes of the project's failure and delay along with that inspecting the security and services of the project’s designated area, although the government has conducted several studies on this project. After that the author will visit a the Minister of Transportation or a senior figure from the ministry for an interview to discuss the main challenges and constraints that causes the failure of the project and the delay to support the study, finally the author will visit Ministry of Public works and roads to collect preliminary maps of the International Coastal Railway (from Haradh to Shahn) and the economic feasibility study of the railway linking the mineral wealth areas (Al-Jouf and Marib Shabwa Balahaf). After analysing data and identifying findings that led to the projects failure, the author found three main challenges at present to build the railway project in Yemen are the absence of government economy, security and political stability.
