Abstract

Language is essentially sound. In using Arabic, the sound spoken is related to a certain meaning. A person who has a certain language can recognize the sounds that are coupled, so that they are meaningful speeches. In this case, phonology is a branch of language that talks about the sound of language that is able to distinguish the meaning of a word. The problem that was first encountered by someone in learning oral languages, especially foreign languages ​​and regional languages, was the problem of his speech. Before learning the meaning of various words and the grammar to be faced, first he must recognize the sounds used in them. Sound science as a classical science that has received tremendous attention from the Arabs since its inception. It can be seen from what was done by the lugho scholars including Imam Jahidz. He discussed in detail about Arabic phonetics, the sound of the language, the place where the language came out and its characteristics. Thus, the researcher wanted to discuss the above matters mainly about language sounds according to Jahidz, using qualitative descriptive research methods. The result of this study is al-Jahiz’s thought that sound comes from vibration of human body using lips in oral activity, then there is a transition around the lips which moves to the ears and brain, and finally the vibration is called as vocal. It is divided into psychology and physiology.

Abstract

Purpose- Each teacher (lecturer) has a characteristic teaching style in the learning process. This study shows that the teaching style used by native Arabic speaking lecturers is a discussion-dialogue style. This can be aligned with the teaching style classification theory, namely the interactional teaching style. Design/Methodology/Approach- Researchers used a qualitative type method with a field approach. The aim is to describe directly in the field and then write about how to use the teaching style of native speaker lecturers and to review descriptively some of the student's opinions regarding the use of teaching styles and the impact they have on the process of learning Arabic. Then the data was collected and validated through three general instruments in qualitative research, namely observation, interviews and documentation. Findings- Apart from native speaker lecturers using a discussion-dialogue teaching style, native speaker lecturers combine teaching styles with other types of teaching styles to support success in the process of learning Arabic. Students are of the opinion that the teaching style of native Arabic speakers is not boring and has an impact on student enthusiasm and discipline in learning with native Arabic speakers. Research Limitation/ Implications- The limitations of the problem in this research focus on the use of the teaching style of native speaker lecturers at the KH Islamic boarding school Abdul Chalim Mojokerto.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the concept of communication according to al-Jahidz. Communication comes from Latin communication, which is rooted in the word communism, which means the same meaning of something. In other words, a communication event will take place if the people involved in it have the same perception or meaning of what is being communicated. As a term, communication can be defined as the delivery and reception of messages or information between two or more people using verbal (language) and nonverbal symbols. This article uses a descriptive qualitative method, which describes and analyzes in-depth verbal communication according to Al-Jahidz. The data collection technique makes use of primary data sources through documents of al-Jahidz books (al-Bayan wa al-Tabyin, al-Hayawan, al-Risalah Li al-Jahidz, al-Hayawan) and other books that discuss al-Jahidz (Usmaniyah Li al-Jahidz, al-Bukhala’ Li al-Jahidz, al-Malamich al-Adaiyah Li al-Jahidz). The results reveal that Al-Jahidz is an Arabic linguist who discusses the theory of verbal communication which includes: the concept of verbal communication, forms of verbal communication and its characteristics, the effect of verbal communication on the same speaker alongside its relationship to the intellectual level, the influence of physical signs or movements on strengthening and controlling verbal performance, commissions, and their effects on verbal performance, varying performance effects on verbal communication, and preference for speaking over silence.
