Abstract

This study aims to explain what the hardiness personality is like in migrant students, especially migrant students from Papua in Makassar City. This study uses a qualitative method with a theory-driven approach, involving three subjects who were born and grew up in Papua, have undergone a bachelor's degree education process for at least two semesters, and have migrated to Makassar City for at least 1 year. The results of the study showed that the three subjects had a hardiness personality that was reflected through the realization of aspects of control, commitment, and challenge. Other findings obtained from the following study indicate four factors that support the emergence of a hardiness personality, namely academic involvement, reflective thinking skills, self-regulation, and courage. The researcher hopes that the following research areas can be useful for psychology science and also for students who are away from home in developing a hardiness personality.

Abstract

Background: Postural abnormalities do not only occur in an elderly person but can also occur in children, namely elementary school age. Changes in posture that occur in children are related to wrong/bad sitting habits, non-ergonomic ways of standing, the habit of lifting weights in the wrong way, and the result of using the wrong backpack/exceeding body capacity so as to interfere with spinal growth and cause back pain to musculoskeletal disorders in children. Objective: This activity aims to provide education and counseling on good and correct posture to children at SDN 75 Bentang, Bentang Village, South Galesong District, Takalar Regency. Method: Education is carried out by providing material through presentations using power points and direct demonstrations. Results: Out of 30 students, after posture education, they were able to answer the questions given where there were no more students who met the "Less" category, the "Enough" category increased to 7 students (23%), and as many as 23 students (77%) met the "Good" category, so that the average student knowledge related to good and correct posture has increased. Conclusion: With education and efforts to prevent posture disorders from an early age, students and schools understand the importance of maintaining good and correct posture to avoid the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and posture defects.

Abstract

UPT SPF SD Inpres Unggulan Toddopuli is one of the strategical schools in Makassar City due to its location which is near to various public fasilities. Therefore, this school is in great demand by the community. Being in great demand by the community becomes one of the factors for the high level of heterogeneity of family backgrounds and behavior patterns of its students. This situation often triggers friction between individuals in the form of bullying between students both among themselves and between grade levels. The lack of knowledge of students and teachers about bullying is one of the reasons this behavior still often occurs in the school environment. Many students have become perpetrators and victims but they do not realize it. Based on this fact, the team of Community Service Program finds the potential of utilizing literary work namely short story as an educational medium to campaign “Stop Bullying” to the students at UPT SPF SD Inpres Unggulan Toddopuli. The method that applied in this community service was field observation that consists of some activities. Firstly, the students were given a pre-test to find out the students’ knowledge about bullying. Then, the students were given the chance to read and to review some short stories which contain the information about bullying. Lastly, the post-test was given to the students to measure the improvement of the students’ knowledge about bullying. The descriptive analysis of the questionnaire data shows that there is an increase on the students’ knowledge about bullying after reading and reviewing the short stories. It is also found that the students are happy to get knowledge about bullying through the short stories because they provide the stories which relevant to the students’ daily lives so that they are easy to understand and fun. Furthermore, the Community Service team also socialized the information about bullying. In addition, the team also created a draft of team that consists of teachers who will be in charge for handling bullying in the school and the programs that should be conducted in an effort to educate the teachers sustainably about the dangers of bullying.
