Abstract

This study explores the perspectives of students in Islamic higher education institutions on academic writing, focusing on English Education programs at Institut Agama Islam Darussalam Blokagung Banyuwangi (IAIDA) and Universitas Nurul Jadid Probolinggo (UNUJA). Using a qualitative approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with sixty senior students. The findings highlight the critical importance of English proficiency for academic success, though students face challenges with grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary. AI tools like Google Translate and Grammarly are widely used to aid writing, though they fall short in generating original content. Writing and research methodology courses are deemed essential, but students call for more effective instruction and supervision. The need for clear, consistent academic writing regulations is emphasized, as current ambiguities hinder adherence to standards. Students view academic writing as crucial for both academic completion and career preparation, underscoring the broader educational significance of writing skills. The study concludes that enhanced support and targeted interventions are necessary to improve academic writing proficiency and critical thinking among students in these institutions.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on English language teaching, especially in the context of the English Language Study Program at KH. Mukhtar Syafa'at University Banyuwangi. Along with the development of technology, AI has presented various opportunities and challenges in education. One of the main opportunities is AI's ability to provide personalized learning, where technologies such as chatbots, virtual assistants, and AI-based applications can help students improve language skills independently. This qualitative case study analyzes AI's impact on English teaching at KH. Mukhtar Syafa'at University, Banyuwangi. Data is collected through semi-structured interviews with lecturers and students, participant observation, and document analysis. Thematic analysis identifies key patterns, with source triangulation ensuring validity. Findings explore AI’s benefits, challenges, and its role in enhancing learning. This study aims to provide insights into optimizing AI integration while maintaining effective pedagogy in academic environments. The results of this study show that Artificial intelligence (AI) significantly impacts English learning by enhancing students' self-directed learning with instant feedback. However, excessive reliance on AI may hinder critical thinking and social interaction. Lecturers also face challenges in AI adaptation due to limited training and infrastructure, fearing it may reduce their role. A balanced approach is essential—students should use AI as a learning tool, not a substitute for thinking and communication. Universities must provide training and support to help lecturers integrate AI effectively while maintaining human interaction in education. With proper strategies, AI can enhance learning quality without diminishing educators' roles.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology presents new challenges for Vocational High School (SMK) students, particularly concerning digital literacy and online conduct. To address this, lecturers from Prodi Tadris Bahasa Inggris (TBIG) at KH Mukhtar Syafaat University (UIMSYA) conducted a community service program aimed at enhancing SMK Al Munawwir students' understanding of digital literacy and instilling social media etiquette. Through an educational approach that included training, interactive discussions, and simulations of social media use, students gained insight into online interaction ethics, critical thinking about digital information, and wise technology utilization. The activity successfully demonstrated an increase in students' digital literacy understanding and their awareness of maintaining communication ethics on social media. This program contributes significantly to fostering a generation that is not only technologically literate but also possesses strong moral values in digital interactions.
