Abstract

Blended learning integrates in-person and online learning, resulting in a flexible learning environment. The main objective of this study is to determine the perceived level of blended learning effectiveness among Grade 12 STEM students from a Philippine private university based in the City of Manila. It also examined the relations between the learners' attitudes, level of efficacy in using the LMS, and academic support received from parents and teachers. A total of 202 SHS students answered the survey questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Spearman Rho, and multiple regression were employed to analyze the data. Findings show a positive attitude of the learners on the use of blended learning as a mode of learning (x͂ = 4), high self-efficacy on the use of LMS (x͂ = 4), high academic parental support (x͂ =4) and high teachers' support (x͂ = 4). The findings of their perceived effectiveness of blended learning show a high rating with a x͂ = 4. The Spearman Rho tests found each variable's correlation with blended learning effectiveness. Both instructors' academic support for students and learners' attitudes had a strong positive correlation; LMS self-efficacy had a moderately positive correlation, while parents' academic support had a weak positive correlation. Multiple regression tests revealed that learners' attitudes, academic support from parents and teachers, and students' level of efficacy in using the LMS design feature all predict effective blended learning.

Abstract

This study examines the body appreciation levels of clustered groups of Filipinas emergent adult in Metro Manila based on their socio-demographic characteristics (SDCs), body esteem (BE), quality of relationship with their parents (QRP), and quality of interactions with their peers (QIP). Using a purposive non-probability sampling technique, 227 Filipina emerging adults between 18 and 29 from Metro Manila participated in the study. The data was collected through an online survey using a semi-structure questionnaire. Mann-Whitney U-test and Kruskal-Wallis were used to determine the significant difference between clustered groups. Findings show that young Filipinas emerging adults have higher BA levels; college undergraduates have higher BA levels; there is no significant difference in BA levels between income groups; those with high BE have higher BA; those with poor QRP have higher BA; there is no significant difference in BA levels between excellency groups. In conclusion, a statistically significant difference exists between the BA levels of the aggregated categories of BE, QRP, EA, and age. To further examine the body appreciation of Filipina emerging adults, a blended method study can provide depth to the findings generated using the quantitative study.

Abstract

Fanfiction has emerged as a significant digital reading and storytelling platform, particularly Alternate Universe (AU) fanfiction on X. This study examined the relationship between AU fanfiction engagement, self-concept, and well-being among Filipino Gen Z readers. Using a quantitative-correlational design, data were collected from 150 participants aged 18-27 (M =Enga 21.3, SD = 2.4) through an online survey. Respondents were selected using purposive non-probability sampling to identify active fanfiction community members. Standardized instruments included the Reading Flow Short Scale, Tennessee Self-Concept Scale, and BBC Well-Being Scale. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to analyze the data. Findings revealed high engagement with AU fanfiction, particularly in time spent and emotional immersion (Mdn = 5.5, IQR = 1.2). Self-concept scores were strongest in moral (Mdn = 4.25, IQR = 0.75) and social dimensions (Mdn = 4.0, IQR = 0.83), while personal self-concept, including self-satisfaction and confidence, were comparatively lower (Mdn = 3.2, IQR = 1.1). Well-being assessment highlighted strengths in social (Mdn = 3.83, IQR = 0.92) and psychological aspects (Mdn = 3.88, IQR = 0.76) but weaknesses in physical health (Mdn = 3.25, IQR = 1.05), particularly sleep quality. The Spearman Rho correlation results indicated minimal direct relationships between fanfiction engagement and self-concept (r = 0.053, p = .519, 95% CI [-0.107, 0.211]) and well-being (r = -0.038, p = .644, 95% CI [-0.197, 0.123]), suggesting that engagement alone does not significantly shape these aspects. Regression analysis further supported these findings, showing a minimal positive impact on self-concept (β = 0.039) and a minimal negative impact on well-being (β = -0.038). These results highlight the complexity of fanfiction's influence on self-concept and well-being, demonstrating the need for more nuanced research examining potential mediating and moderating variables within this relationship.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of celebrity-based product place-ments featuring Vice Ganda in ABS-CBN films on fan-consumers' per-ceptions, purchasing intentions, and purchasing behaviors. Using a quantitative correlational research design with 163 fan-consumers from Metro Manila, the study employed survey instruments adapted from Kumar's (2011) questionnaire and grounded in Ohanian's (1990) Source Credibility Tri-Model. Results revealed that fan-consumers held positive perceptions of Vice Ganda's product placements (Mdn = 4.00), exhibited high purchasing intentions (Mdn = 4.00), and demonstrated strong purchasing behaviors (Mdn = 4.00). Correlation analysis re-vealed a strong positive relationship between purchase intentions and purchasing behaviors (r = 0.74, p < .01), a weak positive relationship between perceptions and purchase intentions (r = 0.19, p < .05), and a negligible relationship between perceptions and purchasing behaviors (r = 0.09, p = .25). These findings support a sequential influence model, suggesting that celebrity endorsements operate through a perception-intention-behavior pathway rather than directly from perception to behavior. The study contributes to the theoretical understanding of celebrity influence mechanisms and practical applications for market-ers seeking to optimize product placement strategies in entertainment media.

Abstract

This correlation study examined the complex interrelationship between self-imposed academic pressure, academic performance, and multidimensional well-being among high-achieving undergraduate students (N = 101, 57.7% response rate) at a premier private university in Manila, Philippines. Through rigorous purposive sampling based on established honors criteria (GWA ≥ 3.0), the study implemented a comprehensive online assessment instrument measuring three primary constructs. Findings revealed pronounced levels of self-imposed academic pressure (Mdn = 6.0 on a 7-point scale, interpreted as High), with academic performance anxiety (Mdn = 7.0, Very High) and future career impact concerns (Mdn = 7.0, Very High) emerging as predominant stressors. Academic achievement metrics demonstrated exceptional performance, with a median GPA of 3.5 and 53.27% of participants attaining GPAs of 3.50 or higher. Despite respondents reporting robust scores across physical (Mdn = 5.5, High), psychological (Mdn = 6.5, High), and social well-being domains (Mdn = 6.0, High), the Spearman Rho test uncovered significant bidirectional relationships. Self-imposed academic pressure exhibited a weak positive correlation with academic performance (r = 0.327, p < 0.01), explaining approximately 10.7% of the variance in GPA (r² = 0.107), suggesting that heightened personal standards confer modest performance advantages. However, a more pronounced moderate negative correlation emerged between self-imposed pressure and overall well-being (r = -0.436, p < 0.01), with particularly strong adverse effects on academic confidence (r = -0.478, p < 0.01), interpersonal relationship satisfaction (r = -0.467, p < 0.01), and cognitive function (r = -0.456, p < 0.01). The differentiated impact across pressure dimensions—with social comparison processes enhancing performance (r = 0.384, p < 0.01) while coursework management difficulties undermining it (r = -0.412, p < 0.01)—illuminates a fundamental academic paradox wherein self-imposed pressure simultaneously enhances performance metrics while compromising holistic well-being. These findings underscore the imperative for educational institutions to develop balanced academic approaches and targeted support systems that foster both achievement and wellness in HyFlex learning environments, particularly addressing the psychological, social, and physical dimensions most adversely affected by academic pressure.

Abstract

The increasing integration of digital technologies into adolescent life has reshaped cognitive and social behavior, often leading to heightened anxiety, reduced attention spans, and excessive screen dependence. Filipino youth face unique challenges due to high digital engagement rates and cultural factors emphasizing constant connectivity. This quasi-experimental study investigated the cognitive effects of a two-week digital detox intervention among Grade 12 Senior High School students in a private university in the City of Manila. Using standardized assessments, pretest-posttest comparisons were conducted across three domains: attention, memory, and problem-solving capacity. Findings revealed statistically significant improvements in attention (t(79) = 2.03, p = 0.046, d = 0.23) and memory (t(79) = 3.16, p = 0.002, d = 0.36), though problem-solving showed no significant post-detox gains (t(79) = 1.78, p = 0.079). These results suggest that brief digital detox periods enhance self-regulatory processes such as focus and cognitive planning, particularly in high-usage individuals. Pearson correlation indicated a moderate positive association between pre-detox digital use intensity and post-intervention attentional improvements (r = 0.32, p = 0.004), indicating increased intervention responsiveness among digital-heavy users. However, the lack of significant correlations in memory and problem-solving domains suggests a need for longer, more structured interventions to yield measurable improvements in executive functioning. The study demonstrates the potential of structured digital detox routines as a viable cognitive wellness tool in high school settings. Future research should explore extended program durations and integrate psychosocial supports to maximize benefits and ensure sustained academic and social functioning improvements.

Abstract

The growing market of glutathione products among young Filipina professionals reflects the enduring influence of colorism and celebrity-driven beauty standards in contemporary Philippine society. This study investigated the relationship between glutathione soap use and two potential influencing factors: attitudes toward colorism and celebrity endorsement-influence. An online survey was distributed to 207 young Filipina professionals (ages 22-35) residing in Metro Manila who had used glutathione soap for at least six months. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman's Rank Correlation, and multiple linear regression. Results showed moderate glutathione soap use (Mdn = 3), with moderate frequency (Mdn = 3) but low intensity of use (Mdn = 2). Attitudes toward colorism were moderate overall (Mdn = 3), with strong self-concept association (Mdn = 4) and moderate ratings for impression formation, affiliation, attraction, and upward mobility (Mdn = 3). Celebrity endorsement-influence was moderate (Mdn = 3), with strong perceived attractiveness (Mdn = 4) but moderate trustworthiness and expertise ratings (Mdn = 3). Neither attitudes toward colorism (ρ = -0.001, p = 0.986) nor celebrity endorsement-influence (ρ = -0.118, p = 0.089) significantly correlated with glutathione soap use. The regression model explained only 1.8% of the variance in glutathione soap use (R² = 0.018, p = 0.161). These findings suggest young Filipina professionals exercise greater agency in navigating beauty standards than previously recognized, maintaining critical distance from colorist narratives despite acknowledging their societal impact. This research provides insights for the skincare industry, public health education, and sociological understanding of evolving beauty standards in post-colonial contexts.

Abstract

This study examined the associations between queer media engagement, demographic factors, and social identity formation among Filipino lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) undergraduate students (N = 52, aged 18-24) using correlational analysis. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (ρ) revealed a significant positive association between monthly family income and queer media engagement (ρ= 0.28, p < .05), suggesting socioeconomic factors influence access to identity-affirming media resources. Weekly hours of media consumption demonstrated the strongest relationship with overall engagement level (ρ = 0.43, p < .01), validating the multidimensional nature of queer media engagement. Contrary to prevalent assumptions, findings showed a non-significant negative correlation between queer media engagement and identity formation (ρ = -0.16, p >.05), suggesting a more complex relationship than previously theorized. Analysis of identity formation components revealed stronger development in cognitive aspects (median = 4.0) than behavioral components (median = 2.0-2.5), aligning with established models of LGBTQIA+ identity development where internal affirmation typically precedes external expression. These findings challenge simplistic assumptions about media influence and suggest a nuanced dynamic where socioeconomic factors, developmental stages, and cultural context significantly shape how Filipino LGB youth engage with queer media and integrate these experiences into their identity formation processes. This underscores the importance of addressing potential digital access disparities and developing critical media literacy alongside increased representation.

Abstract

Sentiment analysis is an area of computational linguistics that studies natural language processing. The most significant subtasks are gathering people's thoughts and organizing them into groups to determine how they feel. The primary purpose of sentiment analysis is to determine whether the individual who created a piece of material has a positive or negative opinion about a subject. It has been claimed that sentiment analysis and social media mining have contributed to the recent success of both private sector and the government. Emotional analysis has applications in practically every aspect of modern life, from individuals to corporations, telecommunications to medical, and economics to politics. This article describes an improved sentiment analysis model based on gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) texture feature extraction and a convolutional neural network (CNN). This model was created using tweets. First, texture characteristics are extracted from the input data set using the GLCM technique. This feature extraction improves categorization accuracy. CNNs are used to classify objects. It outperforms both the support vector machine and the AdaBoost algorithms in terms of accuracy. CNN has achieved an accuracy of 98.5% for sentiment analysis task.
