Abstract

Increasing and developing infrastructure in urban areas has resulted in decreased water infiltration quality into the ground. The increasing of settlement needs and raising its price has resulted in many water catchment areas changing their function unconsciously in urban areas. This condition was ultimately triggering the loss of opportunities for rainwater to into the ground. At present, when the rainy season arrives, almost all major cities in Indonesia experience flooding. The torrential rains that lasted just 1 hour were enough to cause relatively high inundation, which varied from 30 cm to over 1m. This study aims to analyze the intensity of rainfall and its impact on the potential for flooding in urban areas and how to overcome it by utilizing rooter system technology. The results showed that the 4-way rooter system technology's influence was considerable in reducing the water level. An experimental area of 100 m2 treated with a rooter system of 16 pipes with a water level of 40 cm can infiltrate stagnant water into the soil within 120 minutes. Meanwhile, in the same area without rooter technology, it takes 400 minutes to absorb water into the soil until the stagnant water is completely gone. This proves that the rooter system technology plays a significant role in accelerating water absorption into the ground, reducing the risk of flooding.

Abstract

The Catchment Area of Lake Toba experienced considerable environmental damage at this time. Lake Toba community activities that transform forests into agricultural land requiring rehabilitation efforts so that the condition of soil fertility can be restored. One of the efforts is to plant breadfruit because breadfruit has high adaptability, fast growing, does not have a requirement to grow a lot and suitable to grow in the highlands. This study aimed to observed the response of seedling growth breadfruit (Artocarpus communis Forst) for the provision of additional materials to the growing media water-retaining compost. Type of compost that was used there are 4 types of Bernas, Bokashi, Rice Husk, Municipal Solid Waste. This study was conducted in September-November 2014. The study was conducted at Catchment Area of Lake Toba, District Haranggaol, Simalungun. The results showed that the use of different types of compost did not significantly affect the average height increment, diameter, leaf area, crown area, number of leaves and water content. Keywords: Breadfruit, Compost, Bernas, Bokashi, Catchment Area of Lake Toba

Abstract

The forest is seen as an ecosystem, because forest is formed or composed by many components, each component can not stand on its own, can not be separated, even interplay and interdependence. One component forests have an important role to the availability of nutrient cycling in the forest is humus. Humus is part of the composition of the forest has its own function in maintaining the balance of nature. Without humus, then the forest will lose its function in maintaining the stability of the hydrological cycle and soil nutrient cycling. Accordingly, this research aims to detect differences in the thickness of humus at a distance of  0-500 m of agricultural land society, to determine the distance to the forest by forest communities Dolat Rayat villages, districts of Karo, and determine the impact of forest humus decision on vegetation For seedling and saplings. This research showed that the availability (thickness) humus in Forest Park (TAHURA) bordering agricultural land within the community is varied from 0-500 m and impaired. Withdrawal of forest humus reaches a distance of 250 m, and humus began to stabilize in thickness at a distance of  350 m into the forest. Withdrawal of humus also affects the amount and type of vegetation growing in the forest so that species diversity of an area to be low. In areas that do not damage the forest and humus disturbance to the number of individuals, and higher species diversity. Keywords: Forest Humus, Vegetation, Nutrient Cycle, Agricultural Land, Society

Abstract

Forests and land in the catchment area of Lake Toba, showed a decrease for  quality and quantity of the land. This study aims to determinethe public perception of breadfruit (Artocarpus communis Forst). Research carried out in the catchment area of Lake Toba, Simalungun. Analysing public perception using a questionnaire. Data from the questionnaire were analyzed by descriptive quantitative.  Perceptionis influencedby factors of age, education, livelihood and long lived. Research shows that there is a breadfruit distribution point in Haranggaol. Public perception of the breadfruit (Artocarpus communis Forst) is good. Where 58.41% of the people know and understand the benefits of breadfruit. Keywords: Breadfruit (Artocarpus communis Forst), Distribution of Breadfruit, Community Perception, Forest, Catchment Area

Abstract

The Production of oleoresin is affected by the application of stimulant and effect of elevation. The purpose of this research were to know the effect of  C2H4O2 stimulant and effect of elevation to P. merkusii and to know the C2H4O2 concentration and the best of elevation. This research were carried at working area of PT. Inhutani IV, Siborong-borong in March – April 2014 using factorial randomized block design with two factors, i.e. the concentration of stimulant (0, 10, 20 and 30%) and elevation (900 m, 1050-1150 m, 1150-1250 m,  1250-1350 m and 1350-1400 m). Parameter measured were quality and quantity of oleoresin (gram). Result of this research showed that the application of C2H4O2 stimulant on the tapping of pine trees increase considerably to oleoresin. The concentration of C2H4O2 (30%) and the elevation 900 meters  can gave the best product of oleoresin, i.e. 154,15 grams/tree/month. Quality of oleoresin were got at this research was B quality.Key word : P. merkusii, resin, stimulant, elevation.

Parameter measured were production of oleoresin (gram). Result of this research showed that the application of C2H4O2 stimulant on the tapping of pine trees increase considerably to oleoresin. The application of C2H4O2 resulted in more than 2 – 4 times the yield of oleoresin from tree without stimulant. The concentration of C2H4O2 (30%) and the diameter 41-45 cm can gave the best product of oleoresin. The lowest sap production is 10.12 gram in each tree per a mounth and the highest production is 176.30 gram in each tree per a mounth.Key word : Pinus merkusii, Resin, Stimulant, Diameter

Abstract

his study aimed to analyze the function of land uses contained in Singkohor Sub District 2015. This research was located in Singkohor Sub District,of Aceh Singkil Regency by using satellite images of landsat 8. The research method was a supervised classification. Analysis of the data for the image interpretation by using monogram of Sumatera and ground check.   The results showed that land cover in the District Singkohor include forests, plantations, open land, settlements, water bodies, bush, and farm. The largest land use at the location of the research is the type of open land area of 5491.57 Ha and forest area of 4046.67 Ha was expected to be on the wane due to the conversion of land use into other uses such as plantations. In addition, 14 species of plants obtained MPTS (Multi Purpose Tree Species) among the sites that have the advantage among others, have been tested and able to adapt to the environment so that these types of MPTS plants are more prospective in rehabilitation activities.Key Word: Land use, interpretation, Landsat imagery, plant of MPTS

Abstract

Reforestation is an activity that involves planting or regeneration of trees and other plants in the State forest areas and in other areas in other areas based on land-use plan designated as forest. The purpose of this study was to determine the public perception of the difficulty of successful reforestation activities in the Region Captive Air of Lake Toba. The data is taken from primary and secondary data. Primary data is information collected by reforestation activities in the villages, secondary data collected in the study site general conditions existing at the village government agencies which sampling method was done by purposive sampling ie sampling deliberately chosen. The results showed a lack of socialization in the extension of government reforestation activities, uncontrolled forest fires, lack of maintenance of seed that has been planted, the type of plant is less suitable. Keywords: Reforestation, Catchment area, purposive sampling, education, fire.
