Abstract

Breadfruit plants (Artocarpus communis Forst) had significant importance in supporting the needs of the food source because it can support crop diversification efforts that serve as the non-rice food reserves. In connection with this, to rehabilitate in an area where rainfall is done with a bit of fertilizer that can hold water so it is more resistant to drought situation and breadfruit which incidentally is a plant that is able to live in dry conditions so it will be obtained an effective condition for application of fertilizers in the rehabilitation of degraded land, especially in drought conditions. This study aims to determine the ability of manure in retaining water and nutrient supply to the breadfruit plants. Manure with different doses will affect the binding of water and growing resistance breadfruit seeds.  This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) non factorial consisting of one treatment with four replicates with different doses of fertilizer. If ANOVA table is significant then proceed with further tests based on real distance test DMRT (Duncan's Multiple Range Test). Provision of multiple doses of chicken manure on breadfruit seeds significantly affected as height but did not significantly affect the increase in diameter. The highest breadfruit seeds survival skills at P8, while the lowest is in P0.Keyword : Artocarpus communis. Forst, Manure, Degraded Land

Abstract

The condition of critical land in Lake Toba Catchment Area is  the cause of the soil unfertility and  impact on crops. Breadfruit plant that can grow in all types of soil and improving productivity and useful in the greening. Compost is one of the organic fertilizer which can improve soil structure that can support plant growth.   This study aimed to determine the dosage of compost on seedling growth breadfruit plant (Artocarpus communis), and improve the ability of growth of  crops in the field. This research was conducted in the Village District of Haranggaol Horison, Simalungun North Sumatra, from September 2014 to November 2014 by using a non factorial randomized block design with treatment are 0 g, 100 g, 200 g, 300 g, 400 g , 500 g, 600 g, 700 g, 800 g, 900 g, 1000 g with four replications. The results showed that the addition and using compost did not significantly affect to the height, diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, and the vast canopy water content on plant. However, the viability of the plant reached 97.73% indicated breadfruit plant can grow. Giving compost at a dose of 700 g has given the best growth of the plants of breadfruit plant (Artocarpus communis). And C / N ratio showed good results in the amount of 12.47; 13.83; 13.68 as equal to the C / N ratio that allowed the plants to absorb soil nutrients. Keywords: Artocarpus communis, compost, critical land, catchment area

Abstract

Rooting on the tree is a very important base in growth and development of trees. Not only provide mechanical reinforcement to maintain the structure a tree straight up, but also essential for the absorption of water and minerals. In plants, there are two types of rooting that is tap root on dicots plants and fiber roots in monocots plants. This research can provide information related to the behavior of plant roots on both dicots and monocotyledons and some comparisons root growth between year plant dicots with seasonal and year monocot plants and seasonal. This research was conducted in October 2015 through February 2016 by observe directly in the field. There are twenty species of plants accurate divided into 5 year dicots plants, 5 seasonal dicots plants, 5 year monocot plants and 5 monocot plants seasonal. The results showed the behavior of plant root, root characteristics and a comparison growth of year plant roots and seasonal Keyword : Root, Root Behavior, Monocot, Dicots
