Abstract

This study aims at developing reading instructional material using content-based instruction (CBI) approaches for the students of Islamic Education Department in a private university in Southeast Sulawesi province. This is a research and developmental research with ADDIE developmental model. This study involved the lecturers and students of Islamic Education Department. This paper presents the result of preliminary studies (need analysis) related to the reading topics needed by the students in learning English. The data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews. From the results of the need analysis it was found that the priority reading topics needed by the students of Islamic Education Department are: Good Morals in Islam (3.68); The ‘Ibadah in Islam (3.65); Hijab in Islam (3.65); The Source of Islamic Teaching (3.6); Jihad in Islam (3.55) The Aqidah in Islam (3.47).

Abstract

This study aims to delve into EFL pre-service teachers' perceptions of teaching assistance provided through the teaching assistance Program. This study selected 8 pre-service teachers from Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari purposively and used interview as the primary method of data collection. Through a description of thematic analysis, this study identified key themes related to EFL pre-service teachers' understanding of the teaching assistance program, the role of teaching assistance, and the benefits and challenges faced during the program. The findings demonstrated that EFL pre-service teachers comprehended the goals and advantages of the program, which included gaining practical experience in an elementary school context and improving their teaching abilities. But they also had to deal with a number of issues, such inadequate communication with the school staffs, lack of supporting teaching and learning facilities, and the used to be high standards set by both teachers and students. Benefits of instructional help, including improved interpersonal and professional abilities, were also discovered in this study. The current study proposes that pre-service teachers should be given extended time to prepare, endure more comprehensive instruction, and open more effective collaboration with teachers in the school in order to benefit from the adjustable teaching experiences. Consequently, this research contributes meaningful and valuable insights for enhancing the implementation of the teaching assistance program.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct a content analysis of the English textbook "Bright an English 2" with the objectives of the Merdeka curriculum as stated in the learning outcomes that refer to D Phase through the Listening-Speaking element. This study focuses on the material contained in the book and its compliance with the Merdeka curriculum. The data analysis of this study was carried out by specifying objectives, conducting cross-validation for study findings, finding relevant data, creating a coding procedure, and collecting contextual evidence. The data were evaluated using the High, Low, and Null categories. The analysis was conducted on a chapter-by-chapter basis, where the textbook has eight chapters. The findings of this study show that the Listening-Speaking material in the English textbook "Bright an English 2" is still minimal because of the 8 chapters in this book, there are only 3 chapters that have aligned with the Merdeka curriculum D Phase, for the Listening-Speaking element, this textbook still needs additional material because there are still several chapters that do not have Listening-Speaking elements.
