Abstract

This research focused on derivational process in Wawonii language at Wawonii regency. The main objective of this research was to find out derivational process of affixation in Wawonii language. This research used qualitative analysis, the data sources in this research are oral data and written data by applying some techniques of collecting data as follows: record, note taking, translation, and introspection. After the data collected the writer analyzed them through the following steps namely: making the table of the gathered data that indicate the derivational affixation in Wawonii language, the table of derivational process, making formulation and following by examples. The result of this research show that Wawonii language has derivational process of affixation consists of four affixation namely: prefix consist of four prefixes namely mon-, me-, po-, mong-, suffix consist of three suffixes namely  -no, -omo, -io, confix consist of three confixes namely   mo-i, pe-no, and infix consist of one infix namely  -in-.

Abstract

Being almost inseparable from human being, ‘Humiliation’ and ‘dignity’ must be considered as much more universal substance. Its counterpart must be regarded as having the same level of universality. However, is the fact that the form of both ‘dignity’ and ‘humiliation’ differ so much around the world, that the two terms probably represent the best argument for that there are big differences between cultures and nations.  Since the experience of humiliation does not necessary result in an immediate feeling of being humiliated. Thus one of the core challenges is to find the solution of how ‘humiliation’ on the one hand represents something universal and on the other hand is the best argument for non-universality in the world. In this sense, the essay seems to be much easier to say something about the cause for humiliation instead of its effect on the victim.  Yet, this essay attempts to point out how these terms might be understood in attempt at making them meaningful in itself and fruitful for empirical investigation.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the techniques used by teachers in teaching English at SMPN 1 Barangka. The design of this study is qualitative descriptive using observation and interview. In collecting data through observation researcher used field notes to observe techniques applied the teachers in the teaching process and interview teachers. The subjects in this study was the seventh grade English teacher. The findings revealed that the techniques applied the teachers seventh grade are question and answer techniques, repetition drill techniques, memorization techniques, small group discussion techniques, and transformation drill techniques. These techniques aims to improve student’s English pronunciation, improve memory power or student’s English vocabulary, familiarize students using English, improve students understanding of teaching materials, and train student’s to think about solving a problem. The selection of the techniques was based on the student’s English skill.

Abstract

This aim For describe application Environment Learning virtual ( Virtual Learning Environment ) in the BIPA training for the Beginner Level that was held by Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang University. Implementation of Virtual Learning Environment (LPV) is carried out using four platforms as learning media online and remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic. The four platforms are zoom media as a form of synchronous learning, as well as asynchronous learning through use of LMS created and managed by Muhammdiyah Sidenreng Rappang University , Telegram social media and electronic mail or e-mail. This article uses qualitative method, namely describing the activities of the online BIPA learning process and long distance. The data includes learning activities that are processed based on activity categories learners and platforms used in learning which are then analyzed. Based on the findings, integration of LPV in Beginner Level BIPA learning with student cross country give bid Which promising for process learning online and remotely. LPV provides interactive learning tools as well communicative so that the learning process can be accepted by students wherever they are is at. Therefore, LPV integration for BIPA learning can be a reliable choice in online and cross-border learning. However, the refinement of LPV integration for BIPA, especially the Beginner Level, must continue to be developed in the future so that the goals goal Language Indonesia as Language international Can quick materialized.

Abstract

This study aims to explore ESP teachers' beliefs and practices in fostering autonomous learning through assessing students' motivation in non-English majors. The sampling method used convenience sampling. One lecturer at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari who teaches at the Faculty of Agriculture was recruited as a participant. Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews, which were adapted from Yang and Wyatt (2021) and focused on understanding student motivation as well as the practices implemented. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative and evaluative approaches. The results showed that the implementation of project-based learning (PBL) was very effective in motivating students to learn Autonomously. Although initially students had limitations in English speaking ability, structured support and practical activities helped them feel more confident. Future research is recommended to explore other learning methods that can increase students' motivation and engagement, such as collaboration-based learning and the use of digital technology.

Abstract

The study aims to investigate the practical implications of using YouTube videos to improve the vocabulary mastery ability of students in class X RPL B (Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak) SMK Negeri 4 Kendari. The researcher used a pre-experimental research method using one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample of this study was 30 class X students from the RPL B (Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak) department of SMK Negeri 4 Kendari. The data collection instruments used in this study were pre-test and post-test. Based on the results of the data analysis, the average pre-test score was higher than the post-test, with a pre-test of 54.78 and a post-test of 81.44. Based on the results of statistical calculations using paired sample t-test, the standard deviation value was 10.47 with a significance level of 0.000. Thus, it can be assumed that H₁ is accepted, which indicates a significant increase in students' comprehension ability before and after learning using YouTube videos. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of YouTube videos effectively improves the comprehension ability of class X RPL B students of SMK Negeri 4 Kendari in the 2023/2024 academic year, providing practical insights for language educators and stakeholders.

Abstract

This study examines the role of puns in Japanese language learning among Indonesian students majoring in English who are taking Japanese elective courses. Puns have various functions in teaching and learning Japanese as a Foreign Language (JFL). This study investigates the role of puns in Japanese language learning. This study used a mixed methods approach, collecting data through questionnaires from 54 students. The findings show that using puns in JFL classes has a positive effect on learning Japanese. The Beneficial Aspects of Using Japanese Puns in the Classroom, (1). Improving Vocabulary Comprehension; (2) Developing Speaking skills; (3) Introducing Aspects of Japanese Culture; (4). Improving Hiragana and Katakana Reading Skills. This research makes a novelty contribution by examining puns in the specific context of English majors studying Japanese. In addition, this study proposes a teaching model that utilizes puns as a tool to connect aspects of humor, creativity, and cultural understanding in the learning process.

Abstract

This study delves into the efficacy of microteaching as a pedagogical tool for enhancing reflective practices among pre-service teachers. Employing a case study approach, the research investigates the experiences and reflections of a cohort of pre-service teachers who participated in microteaching practice over a specified period. The study aims to discern the direct influence of microteaching on the development of reflective practices and explore the underlying mechanisms through which this impact occurs. This research elucidates the nuanced relationship between microteaching and reflective practices through qualitative data analysis gathered from participant reflections and interviews. Pre-service teachers' written reflections and open-ended interviews are used to collect data on their reflective teaching. The reflective journal records students' experiences during microteaching practice, while interviews provide insights into their reflective practices and their approaches to their professional growth. The findings of this study show that reflecting on teaching practices can influence the improvement of pre-service teachers' instructional strategies. This research highlights the importance of instructional strategies in implementing learning innovations. Indicators of instructional strategies were found: teaching plans and approaches, goals and objectives, teaching experiences, methods and strategies, memorable classroom events, and barriers and solutions.

Abstract

This study aims to look into the social experiences of students in the seventh semester of Universitas Muhammadiyah Kendari's English language education program who have completed the International Credit Transfer program at Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology in the Philippines. A Narrative Inquiry research design was used to conduct the study. The participants of this study are four students. Two of the four students are male, while the other two are female. To gather information on students' experiences with speaking anxiety, an extensive narrative interview technique was utilized. Data analysis followed Clandinin and Cain’s (2008), transcript using a three-dimensional framework of narrative inquiry: the dimensions of time, person-social, and place.

Abstract

This study explores the factors influencing incidental vocabulary acquisition among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research focuses on the personal narratives and learning processes of three EFL students enrolled in a talent scouting program. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, allowing for an in-depth exploration of individual strategies and challenges in vocabulary acquisition. Key factors identified include media and entertainment, social interactions, and classroom experiences, particularly in reading and listening contexts. Participants expressed a strong preference for incidental learning over explicit instruction, finding it more natural and contextually meaningful. However, challenges in retaining newly acquired vocabulary highlighted the need for reinforcement strategies, such as note-taking and repeated exposure, to ensure long-term retention. The study concludes that while incidental learning is beneficial, it should be complemented by deliberate strategies to maximize vocabulary retention and application in real-world situations. By integrating various learning contexts, EFL students can achieve enriched vocabulary and greater fluency in English, ultimately enhancing their confidence in using the language.
