Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial period of time and very challenging period. There is an increase concern on how social media use and mental health of teenagers. In Makassar City, there is a high number of mental health in adolescence yet still rare research has been conducted to investigates about social media use and self-esteem on teenagers. The aim of this study is to give a description on how adolescence behaviour on social media use and their level of self-esteem. This research uses a quantitative study with descriptive study design. The participant was selected based on some inclusion criteria such as teenagers’ age 16-18 years old, able to speak Bahasa, stay in Makassar City and willingly to become participant. The participant was determined by using non-probability sampling using convenience sampling method. There are 118 participants on this research. Three types of instruments were used; demography questionnaire, intensity of social media use and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. From 118 participants, 19 were male and 99 were female. There are 42 respondents spend more than 6 hours on social media, and 54 respondents spend 2-6 hours on social media per day. Most of the respondents use their social media for see feed (20%), give like (14%), stalking (9%), news sharing (9%) and give comment (6%). Most of the respondents have high social media use (70 respondents) and low self-esteem (66 respondents). Social media use is quite high among teenagers in Makassar City and the self-esteem is mostly low. Thus, it is important to investigate the relationship of social media use and self-esteem so that it can give a comprehensive understanding on adolescence’s mental health and wellbeing in Makassar City

Abstract

The elderly are vulnerable to experience health problems and physical deterioration characterized by highrates of chronic diseases among the elderly. Health literacy ability becomes crucial for the elderly withchronic diseases to treat and maintain their health. This study was aimed to describe the literacy levels of theelderly with chronic diseases during the COVID-19 pandemic in Makassar. The method of study was adescriptive survey with a cross-sectional study. The research population is elderly with chronic diseases inMakassar city, and the samples are 124 elderly with age ≥60 years old and suffering chronic diseases morethan six months in two selected sub-district. The research was conducted a cross-sectional survey, anddescriptive univariate data analysis was used. The instrument was used Indonesia's health literacy shortform survey questionnaire (HLS-EU-SQ10-IDN). The result of this study reveals that the health literacylevels vary: insufficient criteria by 33.99%, problematic criteria by 49.2%, sufficient criteria by 16.1%, andperfect criteria by 0.8%. The results prove that the health literacy level of the elderly with chronic diseases isinsufficient. This study concluded that the dominant level of the health literacy of the elderly with chronicdiseases is inadequate and problematic. Health education program to improve their literacy is necessarilyimproved during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Abstract

Application of Assertive Training Techniques to Increase Self-Openness in Communication Between Peers of STKIP Students Andi Matappa. Thesis. Guided by Nurhidayatullah and H. Arifin Dia, STKIP Guidance and Counseling Study Program Andi Matappa.The purpose of this study is: (1) To find out the picture of the application of assertive training techniques in increasing self-openness among stkip student peers Andi Matappa. (2) To find out the effectiveness of assertive training techniques to increase self-openness among stkip student peers Andi Matappa.This study uses an experimental.Data collection uses questionnaires and observations. Data analysis uses inferential statistical analysis, i.e. z-test.The results showed that: (1) The application of assertive training techniques to increase self-openness in communication between peers of STKIP students Andi Matappa has a positive influence in increasing self-openness in communication between stkip student peers Andi Matappa, which is seen from the aspects observed at the time of the application of assertive training techniques that have increased at each meeting. Increased activeness at each meeting indicates that students accept the application of assertive training techniques in increasing openness in communication between stkip student peers Andi Matappa. (2) The application of Assertive Training Techniques can Increase Self-Openness in Communication Between STKIP Student Peers Andi Matappa.
