Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the self-correction technique on improving descriptive text writing skills among Grade VIII students at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Aulia Cendekia Palembang. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test was used, involving 42 students. Results showed a significant improvement in students' writing scores, from a pre-test mean of 38.52 to a post-test mean of 64.98. Statistical analysis with a paired- sample t-test (t = -25.563, p < 0.001) confirmed a positive effect. The findings suggest that self- correction enhances students’ awareness of mistakes, promotes learning independence, and improves writing skills.

Abstract

This research was based on students’ English speaking achievement at school during the 2024/2025 academic year, thus the students’ English speaking achievement was pathetic. Speaking is very important in language learning because it helps students acquire the target language and academic content. English teachers try to use the spying method to help students improve their speaking skills. The spying method uses spies to gather information, in order to support and increase students' confidence in their English language skills Thus, the objectives of this study were to find out: (1) significant improvement in speaking skills using or not using the Spying method and (2) whether there were significant mean difference between the students’ who are taught.. Quasi-experiment research was used in this study. There were 69 students as a sample, 35 students for the experimental class and 34 students for the control class. The data were collected using a speaking test. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. Based on data analysis, it was found that there was a significant increase in students' speaking skills. Before being proven by the t- test results of the paired sample with the t-test obtained (-26.998) and the significance value (0.00) was lower than α (0.05). That shows that students' speaking skills have been improved. In addition, the independent sample t-test results show that the obtained t-test (12.342) and significant value (<.001) was lower than α (0.05). The results shows significant mean difference in students' speaking achievement between students who were taught by using spying method and those who were not taught.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dalam bentuk sosialiasi dan pelatihan pembuatan nugget ikan lele serta kerupuk tulang lele menggunakan metode Zero Waste dilakukan pada tim mitra, yaitu komunitas ibu-ibu rumah tangga berpenghasilan rendah di RT 23, Kecamatan Talang Keramat, Kabupaten Banyuasin, Sumatera Selatan. Tujuan dan manfaat dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini, adalah: 1). Memberikan pengetahuan yang menunjang kemampuan tim mitra dalam keterampilan pengolahan dan pengembangan produk berbasis Ikan Lele; 2). Untuk membantu meningkatkan perekonomian dan kesejahteraan keluarga tim mitra melalui home industry pembuatan nugget Ikan Lele dan Kerupuk Tulang Ikan Lele yang berpotensi layak jual. Metode yang dilakukan dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini meliputi tiga tahapan, yaitu: 1). Tahap Observasi, yakni tahapan pengumpulan data meliputi kondisi wilayah, kondisi ekonomi, dan kondisi sosial dari tim mitra yang akan terlibat dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini; 2).Tahap Sosialisasi, yaitu pemberian materi oleh tim pelaksana yang dibantu oleh beberapa mahasiswa UIGM mengenai konsep Zero Waste dalam pengolahan ikan lele menjadi nugget serta pengolahan sisa limbah ikan lele menjadi kerupuk. Pada metode ini, tim pelaksana menggunakan metode door to door dan ceramah; 3). Tahap Pelatihan, yaitu uji coba pembuatan nugget ikan lele dan kerupuk tulang lele secara langsung oleh tim mitra yang dipandu oleh tim pelaksana dan narasumber. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini, adalah terjadi  peningkatan pengetahuan dan  kemampuan ibu-ibu rumah tangga di RT 23, Talang Keramat dalam mengolah ikan Lele menjadi Nugget dan Kerupuk Tulang Lele, serta kegiatan pengabdian yang telah dipublikasikan pada Media Surat Kabar Online Sumsel Terkini yang telah terbit pada tanggal 11 Maret 2020. Kata kunci: Nugget Ikan Lele, Kerupuk Tulang Lele, Konsep Zero Waste.   ABSTRACT Community service activities in the form of socialization and training on making catfish nuggets and catfish bone crackers using the zero waste method were carried out on the partner team, namely the community of low-income housewives in RT 23, Talang Keramat District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra. The objectives and benefits of this service activity are: 1). Providing knowledge that supports the ability of the partner team in processing skills and development of catfish-based products; 2). To help improve the economy and family welfare of the partner team through the home industry of making catfish nuggets and catfish bone crackers which are potentially worth selling. The method used in this service activity includes three stages, namely: 1). Observation Stage, which is the stage of data collection covering regional conditions, economic conditions, and social conditions of the partner team who will be involved in this service activity; 2) Socialization stage, namely the provision of material by the implementation team assisted by several UIGM students regarding the concept of Zero Waste in processing catfish into nuggets and processing the remaining catfish waste into crackers. In this method, the implementation team uses the door to door method and lectures; 3). The training stage, which is a trial of making catfish nuggets and catfish bone crackers directly by a partner team guided by the implementation team and resource persons. The result of this service activity is an increase in the knowledge and ability of housewives at RT 23, Talang Keramat in processing catfish into catfish nuggets and catfish bone crackers, as well as service activities that have been published in the Latest South Sumatra Online Newspaper Media that has been published on March 11, 2020. Abstract

Mastering Vocabulary played a pivotal role in learning English, as it comprised a collection of words that, when used, construct meaningful sentences. Consequently, the more words a student masters, the more effortlessly they could construct sentences and effectively communicate their thoughts. The purpose of the study was to determine the level of use of flashcards in improving student vocabulary and to find out the use of flashcards can provide a significant difference in the mastery of vocabulary of students who use flashcards and those who do not use flashcards among 8th grade students of SMP 38 Palembang. The quantitative technique was used for this study research. The sample of this research VIII.5 and VIII.6 class, each class consisted of 34 students, with a total sample of 68 students. Additionally, the result of an independent sample t-test revealed that at a significance level of 0,05, t-obtained was 6,320 > t-table (df=66) was 1,997. It denoted that experimental and control group means significantly differed. After having the results of the t-test it can be concluded that team- assisted individualization was useful and applicable for enhancing students’ mastery of English vocabulary among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 38 Palembang.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of semantic mapping in enriching students’ vocabulary mastery. Using a quantitative approach, the research involved 29 eighth-grade students from Tri Dharma Junior High School Palembang in the 2023/2024 academic year. A one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, with data collected through multiple-choice tests and questionnaires. Over twelve meetings, including a pretest, nine treatments, and a posttest, results showed significant vocabulary enrichment. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test revealed a Z value of -3.885 and a p-value below 0.001, confirming the enrichment's statistical significance. The study concluded that semantic mapping effectively improvement vocabulary mastery and motivated students to learn further.
