Abstract

This research is motivated by many nurses who still experiencing high workload and high stress level of heavy work, especially among intensive nurses. Preliminary study with interviews to 10 nurses in Al Ihsan Hospital’s ICU and ICCU results with six nurses (60%) feel exhausted to work in the intensive room. Eight nurses are experiencing symptoms such as work stress often complained of headache, disorders of sleep patterns, and lethargic, and often feel anxiousness, irritability and restlessness. Eight nurses (80%) said the responsibility of nurses in the intensive is heavy as it relates to critical patient, patient's family demands and the use of tools supporting intensive patients. In addition there are some nurses who have not yet received training. The research aims to find out the relationship of workload toward intensive nurse stress level in the provincial hospital of Al Ihsan West Java Province. The design of the research is correlation survey of cross sectional approach. The number of samples as many as 22 managing nurses in Al Ihsan Hospital’s ICU and ICCU using total sampling techniques. Data collection using primary data by questionnaires. The results of the univariate analysis processed with data (frequency distribution) and bivariate (rank spearman). The results showed intensive nurse workload most are heavy (54,55%), moderate (36,4%), and lighter (9.1%). The level of intensive nurse's work stress most is being (86.4%) and lightweight (13.6%). There is a relationship with workload stress levels among intensive nurses who works in Al-Ihsan Hospital (p-value 0,010).

Abstract

Introduction: In Indonesia, data from the 2013 Basic Health Study showed the prevalence of heart failure was 0.3%, an estimated 530,068 people based on a doctor's diagnosis. Cardiovascular disease is a disease that interferes with the function of the heart and blood vessels, clinical symptoms in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) include dyspnea, orthopnea, dyspnea and paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea (PND), pulmonary edema, ascites, pitting edema, weight gain and even shock. cardiogenic. Method: The method used in this research is an experimental research method. The type of research used is quasi-experimental (quasi-experimental). Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of semi-Fowler and Fowler positions on increasing oxygen saturation in heart failure patients at Sumedang Hospital. Results and Discussion: The first output shows the difference in oxygen saturation of the rear half-fowler of 45 and 90, on the rear half-fowler an average of 94.25, the minimum and maximum values ??of 90-97, Then to catch the rear bird of 90 the average is 96.50 and min and max are 93-99. Conclusion: The effect of half fowler and fowler positions given by Sumedang Hospital to increase blood oxygen saturation in heart failure patients with a value of 90.50. For the second half of Fowler's 45?, get the values, min 90 and max 97 and mean 94.25.

Abstract

Background The Emergency Department (ED) is a critical hospital unit that requires nurses to provide fast and accurate responses to life-threatening conditions. Nurse response time is a key quality indicator, yet delays often occur due to excessive workload. Studies suggest that high workload negatively affects response time, but a comprehensive review in the Indonesian context remains limited. Objective This study aimed to critically review existing literature on the relationship between nurses’ workload and response time in emergency care settings in Indonesia. Methods A systematic literature review was conducted using Google Scholar and PubMed databases. Articles published between 2019 and 2025 were screened based on inclusion criteria: studies conducted in Indonesian EDs, discussing both workload and response time, available in full-text, and written in English or Indonesian. Quality appraisal was performed using the JBI Critical Appraisal Tools, resulting in 8 eligible articles out of 360 initially identified. Results Most of the reviewed studies found a significant relationship between high workload and delayed nurse response time. Nurses with lower workload were more likely to meet the ≤5-minute standard. Other influencing factors included training, years of experience, facility infrastructure, and patient condition. Variations in study design, data collection methods, and perspectives (nurses vs. patients) contributed to inconsistent findings across studies. Conclusion Nurse workload significantly influences response time in emergency settings. However, this relationship is affected by multiple interacting factors such as work environment, professional competency, and support systems. It is recommended to implement real-time workload assessment tools, enhance training programs, and conduct mixed-method studies that differentiate physical, mental, and emotional workload dimensions to improve emergency response performance and patient safety.
