Despite having rapid economic development, the ASEAN region is not completely stable and peaceful. Conflictshave been going on since long before the ASEAN is established. They happen in Myanmar, Thailand, andPhilippines. A smaller scale of conflict also takes place in Indonesia. The view that security comes first before theinvestment has made it difficult to achieve peace and stability based on economic instruments. In this article, thewriter proposes a view that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) can be utilized as an important instrument in boostingpeace and stability provided that the civil society sustains it. Two case studies are presented to show the relationshipbetween FDI, civil society, and peace development in the conflict area, Myanmar and Philippines. It is recommendedthat civil society actively makes efforts to encourage FDI to come to the conflict are and establish capital-intensiveindustries, especially in Rakhine and Mindanao.

The findings in this study found that first, Pakistani society uses the tradition of honor killing as a legal tool for those who violate family honour. Second, the development of the practice of honor killing in Pakistan is due to cultural traditions and adapting from the laws of Qisas and Diyat. In the perspective of maqashid sharia, the practice of honor killing is contrary to the principle of al-Dharuriyat al-Khamsah, namely religion and soul. Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Global Peace Index (GPI) in the Middle East. This quantitative analysis employs the Pearson correlation coefficient formula, with HDI as the independent variable and GPI as the dependent variable. The literature review utilizes numerous sources, including journals, books, news media, and the internet. The research sample included Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Qatar, and Israel. HDI and GPI are strongly negatively correlated (-0.854), indicating that an increase in one variable (HDI) diminishes the other variable (GPI). Consequently, countries in the Middle East with higher levels of human development tend to have lower GPI scores, indicating that higher levels of human development are associated with a greater likelihood of peace in this region.
