Abstract

A workplace accident is an unwanted and often unforeseen event that can result in lost time from work, property damage, or death. Work accidents, work fatigue, and worker behavior are some of the problems that are often faced by informal sector workers. The goal of this research was to look into the factors that impact work accidents among women in Kupang's informal sector. An observational study with a cross-sectional design was used in this investigation. From April to July 2019, this research was conducted in Kupang City. Participants in this study were 548 women who worked in the informal sector. The research sample consisted of 140 women from the informal sector who were selected using a basic random selection approach. Interviews were used to obtain data, which was then analyzed bivariately using a basic linear regression test. Workload was discovered to be a factor in the study's findings (0.000) and work fatigue (0.000) affected work accidents, while work behavior (0.076) did not affect work accidents in female workers. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures and rules in the workplace, counseling regarding the application of OHS with workers, as well as sanctions against the application of OHS in the workplace to workers need to be implemented to reduce workplace accidents.

Abstract

Background: Work behavior refers to an individual's actions while working, whether or not following procedure. Work behavior following the procedure will prevent accidents. Workers in the informal sector pay less attention to proper work behavior, which may lead to accidents in the workplace. The theory planned behavior (TPB) maintains that three core components, namely attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control, together shape an individual’s behavioral intention. In turn, behavioral intention determines human behavior. This study aimed to analyze factors that influence work behavior in female workers in the informal sector, using TPB.Subjects and Method: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, from April to July 2019. A sample of 548 female workers in the informal sector was selected at random. The dependent variable was work behavior. The independent variables were subjective norm, perceived behavior control, and attitude toward behavior. The data were collected through interview using questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was performed by simple linear regression. Results: Proper work behavior increased with strong intention (b= 1.03; 95% CI= 5.20 to 7.26; p< 0.001), positive attitude (b= 0.54; 95% CI= 6.30 to 7.40; p< 0.001), favorable subjective norm (b= 1.11; 95% CI= 5.68 to 7.90; p< 0.001), and strong perceived behavior control (b= 1.17; 95% CI= 5.75 to 8.09; p< 0.001).Conclusion: Proper work behavior increases with strong intention, positive attitude, favorable subjective norm, and strong perceived behavior control. Keywords: attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control, intention, work behavior, female workers.Correspondence:Noorce Christiani Berek. Abstract

Workers of wooden furniture is the workers who are at risk for decreased lung function caused by exposure to wood dust in the working environment. Wood dust will enter the respiratory organs, thereby affecting lung function. Decreased pulmonary function can be seen by the method of Harvard Step Test. This research aims to analyse the relationship between age, working period, nutritional status, smoking habits, long exposure to dust, and use of PPE with lung function in wooden furniture workers in Oesapa Village, Kelapa Lima Sub District, Kupang City. The study was analytic survey with Cross Sectional approach. This research was conducted in the wood furniture industry in Oesapa Vilage, Kelapa Lima District, Kupang City in July 2020. The population in this study was 33 workers of wooden furniture. Data collection is done by questionnaire, weight measurement, height measurement and the Harvard Step Test to determine the level of lung fitness workers. Data analysis technique used is the Chi Square test with level of significance . The results showed that there was a significant relationship between age (0.002), working period (0.023), nutritional status (0.039), and use of PPE (0.016) with lung function in workers of wooden furniture. There is no relationship smoking habits (0.093), long exposureto dust (0.057) and lung function in workers of wooden furniture.
