Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the level of adding turmeric paste (Curcuma longa L.) on the number of bacteria and pH value of chicken meat, as well as organoleptic characteristics including color, odor and texture consistency. The research method was carried out experimentally using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four turmeric paste concentration treatments: P0 (control), P1 (10 ml), P2 (20 ml), and P3 (30 ml) and repeated five times. The results showed that the addition of turmeric at concentrations of 10 ml, 20 ml and 30 ml significantly reduced the number of bacteria compared to the control (P<0.05) with the highest number of bacteria at P0 of 6.14 x 10⁶ cfu/ml and the number of bacteria the lowest at P3 was 3.20 x 10⁶ cfu/ml, the number of bacteria in all treatments still did not meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI 7388:2009 10⁶ cfu/g). The pH value in each treatment with the addition of turmeric paste was not significantly different (P > 0.05), with a pH range of 5.39 (P0) to pH 5.60 (P3). The addition of turmeric paste improves the organoleptic quality of meat, especially in terms of yellower color, better aroma, softer texture. In conclusion, turmeric paste can reduce the number of bacteria and improve the characteristics of chicken meat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the potential for reducing GHG emissions through composting beef cattle waste in the Livestock Farmers Group in Paseh District, Sumedang Regency. The method used in this study was observational and survey research. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The data used in this study were primary data from interviews with 53 livestock farmers in Paseh District. Direct physical observations in the field and questionnaire data. The data obtained were analyzed using the Tier-1 method in the 2006 IPCC Guidelines. The stages in calculating gas emissions include: Determining the number of populations (animal units), namely the number of populations (Animal Units) obtained from the results of multiplying the number of populations by the correction factor set for beef cattle. Calculation of Methane (CH4) Gas Emissions from beef cattle feces management was carried out using the Tier-1 method in IPCC (2006). The results of the study revealed that the main sources of emissions were enteric fermentation of 0.0669 Gg CO2-eq/year, waste processing of 0.0014 Gg CO2-eq/year, N2O emissions directly from feces processing of 290.232 Gg CO2-eq/year and indirect emissions from beef cattle feces waste processing of 0.098 Gg CO2-eq/year. The conclusion is that beef cattle waste processing in Paseh District, Sumedang Regency, contributes to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, especially methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O).

Abstract

The success of broiler production is expressed in its production performance. The achievement of broiler performance is influenced by management. Feed management factors play an important role in determining the success of broiler farming. The purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of substitution of fish meal and soybean meal with indigofera leaf meal (TDI) in the ration on broiler production performance, and to get the balance of substitution of fish meal and soybean meal with indigofera leaf meal (TDI) in the ration to determine the best broiler production performance. The research was conducted experimentally using a completely randomised design (CRD). The treatment types used were P0 (Ration without TDI) as control, P1 (Ration + 25% TDI), P2 (Ration + 30% TDI) P3 (Ration + 35% TDI), P4 (Ration + 40% TDI). Variables observed included daily ration consumption, daily body weight gain, ration conversion, feed cost per gain, and mortality. Data from the study were analysed using analysis of variance and if it showed significant differences, it was further tested using Duncan's multiple range test. The results showed that daily ration consumption, daily body weight gain, ration conversion, and feed cost per gain with the addition of indigofera leaf meal in the ration statistically showed significant differences while mortality only occurred.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of substitution of fish meal and soybean meal with indigofera leaf meal (Indigofera zollingeriana) in rations on the digestive tract of broiler chickens and to obtain the level of Indigofera leaf meal administration in rations that produces the best digestive tract conditions of broiler chickens. The research method was carried out experimentally on broiler chickens using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments, namely P0 (Without Indigofera), P1 (TDI 25%), P2 (TDI 30%), P3 (TDI 35%) and P4 (TDI 40%) which were repeated four times. The variables observed included the esophagus, crop, gizzard, duodenum, jejunum and ileum. The data obtained were tested by analysis of variance and further tested by Duncan's multiple range test. Feeding fish meal and soybean meal flour substitute with indigofera leaf flour (Indigofera zollingeriana) showed a significant difference (p<0.05) on crop weight, gizzard weight, duodenum, jejunum and ileum length but was not significantly different on esophagus weight. The level of Indigofera leaf flour administration up to 35% was able to produce the best digestive tract sizes of broiler chickens on esophagus weight, crop weight, duodenum length, jejunum length and ileum length while without indigofera leaf flour (0%) was better in providing an increase in gizzard weight. The conclusion is that feeding fish meal and soybean meal flour substitute with indigofera leaf flour produces gizzard weight that exceeds normal weight and esophagus weight that is smaller than its normal size.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the carcass and non-carcass of broiler fed with rations resulting from the substitution of fish meal and soybean meal with indigofera (Indigofera zollingeriana) leaf meal (TDI) in the ration, as well as obtaining the balance of indigofera leaf meal substitution to produce the best carcass and non-carcass of broiler. This research method was conducted experimentally for 35 days using a completely randomised design (CRD). The treatment given in the form of substitution (TDI) as many as five levels, namely: P0 = 0% (as control),; P1 = Ration + 25% TDI; P2 = Ration + 30% TDI; P3 = Ration+ 35% TDI; P4 = Ration + 40% TDI. Each treatment was repeated 4 repetitions. The observed variables were live weight, weight after slaughter, carcass weight, carcass parts (breast, wings, back, and thighs), and non-carcass parts. The data obtained were analysed with ANOVA and further tested with Duncan's multiple range test. The results showed that both components and non-carcass parts of broiler decreased significantly after being given TDI in the ration. The average carcass weight in the control treatment was 833.75 ± 33.83 g. Whereas in the TDI treatment it ranged between 833.75 ± 33.83 g. While in the treatment of TDI administration ranged from 430.75 ± 25.81 to 491.00 ± 32.95 g. These commodities are also found in the components or parts of the non-carcass except the weight of blood. It can be concluded that the provision of TDI as a substitute feed ingredient for fishmeal and soybean meal as much as 25% or more is not able to increase the carcass or non-carcass components of broiler.
