Abstract

Abstract

The majority of learning and teaching activities during the COVID-19 era were distributed to remote learners. The ineffectiveness of face-to-face instruction was subsequently put aside as students felt comfortable learning online. Policymakers in the education system had to adjust to a new normal or habit once the COVID-19 cases started to decline. The aim of this research is to identify the challenges faced by final year students in completing thesis during the Post-Covid-19 New Normal Habitus period and to find out how final year students can complete their thesis guidance during the Post-Covid-19 New Normal Habitus period. There were 15 English students joining the interview and the research was conducted within the State Islamic campus in Jambi City. Coding system was implemented to get credible data. The result shows that Completing studies in the New Normal Era has several obstacles. One of the most significant problems is the communication problem between students and supervisors which involves internal and external factors. Internal factors focus on difficulties caused by students' lack of understanding of thesis components, references and citation styles. Meanwhile, external factors focus on students' difficulties in the thesis writing process which depends on the direction of the supervisor, where some lecturers still provide online thesis guidance, where students agree that online counseling is not effective.

Abstract

Communication is a key factor in the exchange of emotions and information during interactions. In fact, in schools, most children with disabilities, such as autism, experience significant verbal communication difficulties. Only about 45% of students with autism can communicate verbally, while 55% still rely on nonverbal communication or assistance. Additionally, students with autism have limitations in expressing their emotions, making them highly prone to tantrums. This is one of the reasons why teachers in schools often hesitate to provide digital media to students with autism. Digital communication is also a form of communication skills, but it is based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to facilitate relationships and interactions with others. This study aims to explore how the curiosity and digital communication skills of students with autism can be enhanced through a realistic mathematics learning approach using Quizizz. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings, based on observational instruments conducted over three sessions, indicate that students' digital communication skills improved in each session, increasing from 44% to over 80%. Furthermore, the use of Quizizz also contributed to enhancing the verbal communication skills of students with autism. Through Quizizz, students with autism were able to practice self-expression, select answers, and even interact with their peers in game mode. This research provides valuable insights into how students with moderate autism respond to realistic and interactive mathematics learning while helping educators better understand their special needs and develop more effective teaching strategies.

Abstract

The tradition of calculating inheritance in walimatul ‘ursy of Jambi Malay community is a social practice that regulates the recording of wedding donations as a form of debt that must be returned in the future. This tradition reflects a reciprocity system that aims to maintain the family's economic balance, but also creates a financial burden for the next generation. This study aims to analyse the tradition of inheritance calculation from the perspective of Maqāṣid al-Syarī'ah, to assess whether this practice is in accordance with the principles of justice and benefit in Islamic law. This research uses a qualitative approach with the method of sociology of Islamic law. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, scholars, and people involved in this tradition, as well as participatory observation of the practice of calculating inheritance in weddings. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing based on Maqāṣid al-Syarī'ah theory and Islamic economic principles related to qardh (debt and credit) and sadd al-dharī'ah (prevention of harm). The results show that although the tradition of calculating inheritance has positive aspects in strengthening social relations and helping to finance weddings, this practice also has the potential to create economic pressures that are not in accordance with the principles of Maqāṣid al-Syarī'ah, especially in the aspects of ḥifẓ al-māl (protection of property) and ḥifẓ al-nafs (protection of the soul). This tradition can cause intergenerational financial burden if it is not regulated with a more flexible and transparent mechanism. Therefore, it is necessary to reformulate the practice of inheritance calculation in order to maintain its social values without causing excessive economic burden for individuals and families.

Abstract

Higher Level Thinking Ability (HOTS) is the ability of students to interpret their knowledge in solving a problem through the process of analysis, evaluation and creating ideas from the problems presented. This study aims to identify the development of a Mathematics Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) assessment instrument. This review research uses bibliometric methods and a qualitative approach in reviewing journals in 2019-2023. Based on the results of the analysis, it shows that the development of the HOTS instrument was carried out based on the questions available at school which were less varied, the questions were still at the comprehension stage, teachers did not yet understand how to make HOTS questions, students' abilities. One form of assessment developed is test questions with multiple choice instrument types, descriptions and authentic assessments. The test questions developed pay attention to HOTS characteristics such as paying attention to HOTS indicators, KKO, mathematical problems and stimuli, as well as Bloom's taxonomy.
