Abstract

Tamarind are widely used as antioxidants, anti-diabetes, anti-hyperlipidemia, and anti-cholesterolemia. The aim of this research is to analyze the anti-hyperlipidemic activity of extracts of tamarind fruit pulp, seeds and leaves on the lipid profile of rats. Experimental research was designed with 20 male rats divided   Control (C), Tamarind leaves (TL), Tamarind fruit pulp (TF), and Tamarind seeds (TS) extracts, each 500 mg/kg of body weight. All of the groups were given standard feed and induced with lard at 3 ml/rat/day for 14 days. On day 15, the rats were continued to be induced with lard and were given extracts according to each group for 2 weeks. The data obtained such as rats’ body weight, level of cholesterol, HDL (high-density lipoprotein), LDL (low-density lipoprotein), triglycerides (TG) and Malondialdehyde (MDA)  were analyzed using anova (P<0.05) and the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that each extract had a significant effect on cholesterol, HDL and MDA levels but not on body weight, LDL and triglycerides. Levels of MDA in the group with the extract were significantly lower than the control. Tamarind pulp, seeds and leaf extracts show antihyperlipidemic activity by reducing cholesterol and HDL levels. This can be the basis for using parts of the tamarind plant as a supplement for the community to maintain fat levels.

Abstract

This study presents an enhanced recommender system tailored for e-commerce platforms specializing in cosmetic products. Traditional recommender systems often need help providing accurate and personalized recommendations due to the complexity and subjectivity inherent in cosmetic preferences. In e-commerce, personalized product recommendations are crucial to improving user engagement and driving sales. This paper presents an innovative approach to enhance recommendation systems by leveraging neural network collaborative filtering techniques for the cosmetic product domain. The proposed method integrates neural networks into collaborative filtering, namely neural network collaborative filtering with improved preprocessing step. To validate the effectiveness of our proposed system, extensive experiments were conducted using real-world e-commerce cosmetic datasets "eCommerce Event History in Cosmetics Shop".   Additionally, we evaluate the system's performance using historical e-commerce event data in cosmetics stores, demonstrating the system's effectiveness with mean reciprocal ratings (MRR) and normalized discount cumulative gain (NDCG). Evaluation Metrics of MRR and NDCG in this study got 0.56 and 0.60, respectively, with a split of the data: 70% train data, 15% validation data, and 15% test data. This study obtained better evaluation metrics than the previous study, which had an MRR of 0.31 and NDGC of 0.32. Furthermore, this model exhibits robustness against data sparsity and cold-start problems commonly encountered in e-commerce platforms. This research advances knowledge of recommendation systems and paves the way for more personalized and efficient online shopping experiences.

Abstract

Background: Pomegranate peel (Punica granatum L.) is a part of the pomegranate fruit which is used as a traditional medicine for acne. The ethanol extract of pomegranate peel contains alkaloid, phenolic, flavonoid, and saponin compounds which have potential as antibacterial agents. Aim: This study aims to make peel-off masks of the ethanol extract of pomegranate peels and to determine the antibacterial activity of peel-off masks against acne-causing bacteria Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus. Material and Methods: The maceration method was used to obtain pomegranate peel extract with 96% ethanol solvent. Phytochemical screening is used to determine the content of the extract. Preliminary test of antibacterial activity was carried out using the disk diffusion method to determine the MIC value. The extract was then made into a peel-off mask preparation based on HPMC gel and PVA as a gelling agent. The peel-off mask was then evaluated physically and tested for its antibacterial activity by agar well diffusion. Results: Pomegranate peel (Punica granatum L.) extracted with 96% ethanol contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and phenolics which show antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus with a MIC value of 1.9 mg/ml. The results of observations of the physical properties of peel-off masks showed that the formulas that met the requirements were F(1) and F(2) with extract concentrations of 1.56% and 3.12%, respectively. The results of the antibacterial activity test of the peel-off mask of the ethanol extract of pomegranate peel had an inhibition zone of 9-15 mm in the medium to strong category. Conclusion: Based on the results of physical evaluation and antibacterial activity test, F(2) was the most optimum formula with inhibition against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus of 13 mm and 14.5 mm, respectively.
