Abstract

Tax avoidance is a transaction scheme aimed at minimizing the tax burden by taking advantage of the weaknesses in a country's tax provisions, so that tax experts state that it is legal because it does not violate tax regulations. This study aims to determine and examine the effect of institutional ownership, managerial ownership, and leverage on tax avoidance with audit quality as a moderating variable. The data source in this study is the financial statement data of retail companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2018-2022. The total population was obtained as many as 32 companies, then the sample of this study was obtained by purposive sampling technique which resulted in a sample of 27 companies for further research. The analysis technique used is multiple linear regression analysis managed through SPSS 25. The results of this study indicate that institutional ownership affects tax avoidance, while managerial ownership, and leverage have no effect on tax avoidance. In addition, this study shows that audit quality is able to moderate institutional ownership, managerial ownership, and leverage on tax avoidance.

Abstract

Abstract

Character education and fatherhood figures are crucial for a child’s moral development, yet their integration into English Language Teaching (ELT) via multimodal films remains underexplored in Indonesia. This study aims to identify the fatherhood values represented in the movie The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) and analyze their implications for ELT practices. Employing a qualitative descriptive design and content analysis, data were collected from 21 scenes depicting the protagonist’s verbal and non-verbal actions based on Lamb’s (2010) framework. The findings reveal four integrated fatherhood values: responsibility (5 scenes), sacrifice (6 scenes), care (5 scenes), and perseverance (5 scenes). These values operate not as isolated traits, but as a unified system where responsibility motivates sacrifice, which is sustained by emotional care, ultimately culminating in relentless perseverance. In conclusion, the film represents a holistic paternal identity that provides robust thematic anchors for character-based ELT activities, such as analytical writing and role-playing. Utilizing this movie as a learning medium supports the Indonesian Merdeka Belajar curriculum by simultaneously enhancing students’ communicative language proficiency and moral awareness.

Abstract

English speaking skill is essential yet challenging for EFL learners due to linguistic barriers and psychological constraints. This study aims to empirically investigate the effectiveness of the Stimuler Application as a learning medium in improving students' English speaking skills. Employing a quantitative true experimental design, specifically a pre-test and post-test control group design, this research involved 36 eleventh-grade students at MA NWDI Ketangga, divided equally into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected through a speaking test assessing pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension, and subsequently analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. The results revealed a highly significant difference in speaking performance between the two groups (U = 0.0, Sig. < 0.001). The experimental class achieved a massive post-test mean score of 90.44, significantly outperforming the control class's mean of 71.56, with the most prominent improvements observed in the aspects of fluency and pronunciation. In conclusion, the Stimuler Application is highly effective in accelerating oral proficiency by providing high-frequency independent practice and immediate AI-driven diagnostic feedback, thereby successfully reducing speech hesitation and lowering the students' affective filter.

Abstract

Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students persistently struggle with speaking proficiency, a challenge exacerbated by teacher-centered instruction that lacks authentic communicative practice. This study aims to investigate the effect of paired podcast activities—unscripted, collaborative digital audio tasks—on students' speaking proficiency. Employing a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design, the research involved 46 second-semester students at Universitas Hamzanwadi, assigned to an experimental group (n=29) and a control group (n=17). Data were collected through speaking performance tests evaluated via an analytic rubric (assessing pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension) and a post-intervention student questionnaire. Wilcoxon Signed-Rank tests revealed significant within-group improvements for both cohorts. While the Mann-Whitney U test indicated no statistically significant difference in post-test scores between the groups (p = 0.378), the experimental group demonstrated a descriptively higher mean gain (2.55 vs. 1.24), predominantly in fluency and vocabulary, alongside a homogenized proficiency variance. Furthermore, a medium practical effect size (Cohen's d = 0.551) and highly positive affective responses (Overall M = 3.65) were recorded. The study concludes that despite sample size constraints limiting statistical superiority, paired podcast activities provide a practically meaningful, highly engaging pedagogical framework that accelerates conversational fluency and facilitates peer scaffolding in EFL classrooms.
