Abstract

English is one of the subjects that the students learn in the school. Although it has been studied since elementary school, English is still one of the subjects that are considered difficult and boring by the students, because English is not their mother tongue. Therefore, teachers in the schools must be creative in teaching English so that the students become interested in learning it. Especially for elementary students, the teachers can teach English by using playing tricks while learning so that it can trigger the students' enthusiasm to learn, so that learning English becomes something fun. One strategy that can be implemented is learning while playing by using Crossword Puzzles. This can add or improve the students' vocabulary in learning English. For this reason, this activity aims to train the students to learn English to be fun by using Crossword Puzzles. The output target of this activity is to help the students in growing their interest in learning English and to help them to improve their English vocabularies in a fun way.

Abstract

The problems of this research were students students cannot write in a good form, students often do nit remember the general structure of the text well, and cannot find the the right words to write. The research aimed to find out the Impact of Padlet Application on Improving Students’ Writing Skill at SMPN 30 Padang. Padlet is an online tool that allows users to create virtual bulletin boards where they can post various types of content such as text, images, videos, links, and documents. This research used quantitative method with a pre-experimental approach and data collection was carried out using pretest and post test to analyze the effect of using Padlet application on students at SMPN 30 Padang who consisted 33 students from class VIII.I who has choosen using cluster random sampling. The research result show that Padlet application can improve students’ writing skill. The pretest result showed average score was 55,60 and the post test was 70,88. After data was collected, the data was analyzed using t-test formula. The result of the analysis showed that value of t-test > t table is 7,067 > 2,03693. The last hypothesis shows that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means there is a significant influence on improving students’ writing skill using Padlet application.

Abstract

The problems of this research were students’ lack of vocabulary, lack of pronunciation, lost confident, a fear of making mistakes, and speaking English is difficult to learn. This research aimed to find out how the TGT method improves students' speaking ability and the significant factors in using the TGT method at SMPN 2 Padang. This research used purposive sampling and VIII.5 as sample in the classroom. This research used qualitative research design and Classroom Action Research approach that consisted 2 cycles, and has four stages, namely; planning, action, observation, and reflection. The instrument of this research was test; pre-test and post-test, observation sheet, and questionnaire. The research results showed a significant increase in students' speaking ability, the improvement of percentage was 18.75% from pre-test to post-test II. The questionnaire revealed that 88.12% of students preferred learning with intrinsic motivation, which showed that the importance of motivation in the learning process.
