Abstract

This research uses French songs. The song is called On écrit sur les murs. This song is sung by Kids United, which is a children's singing group, consisting of six people. This arts group is a group formed by UNICEF. The researchers used van Dijk's critical discourse theory, which is used to dissect the meaning in the lyrics of the song On écrit sur les murs  Therefore, the purpose of this reseacrh is to find the meaning of the description of the macro-micro thematic system, proposed by van Dijk This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The research techniques in this research were listening, translating and analyzing song lyrics. The result of the research is that this song conveys anti-racism. They poured their feelings on a wall. Walls are used as a circle image, because many children everywhere often write on walls, especially walls on main roads to express their aspirations.

Abstract

Because the skills of speaking English as a foreign language (EFL) in Indonesia are still concern and less than maximal, even becoming a phenomenon to date. This study choose storytelling as a learning techniques to facilitate students to increase speaking skills in English learning. So, this study aims to see the success of storytelling techniques in learning foreign languages, and increased skills to speak English students at the grades 6 elementary school. There is an average value (mean score) of student learning outcomes of each aspect are as follows: vocabulary aspects of 17.5, the aspect of pronunciation of 17.3, aspects of smoothness of 16.7, aspects of the structure of 16.7, and the meaning aspects of 17.9. Of the overall average value on every aspect, students can be said to almost reach the highest score, namely 20 on the assessment criteria for each aspect. The findings of this study showed storytelling is a technique that is worthy of being used as a technique or approach to foreign language learning. The storytelling can spur students' interest in talking The storytelling managed to facilitate students to increase speaking skills in learning English as a foreign language (EFL).,Students also provide a good response to this storytelling activity. Then, there is the increase in the speaking skills of elementary school students achieve very satisfactory value, which is 40% of students get a score of 97 for the highest value, and only 10% with a score of 62 for the lowest value. This study uses a direct method in storytelling activities. For data collection, this study uses qualitative and quantitative methods for data analysis.

Abstract

object. The researchers were interested in examining the Kontrakan Rempong vlog film because we witnessed the phenomena of ladies whose passion is gossip, exposing the humiliation of others. The purpose of this research is to look into the gossip myth in Kontrakan Rempong. Gossip serves a purpose that extends beyond the scope of interpersonal relationships; consequently, gossip serves societal purposes. The descriptive qualitative method was employed in this investigation, along with data reduction strategies. The researchers employed semiotics in their research is from Roland Barthes to find hidden meanings (myths) from the gossip conveyed in these two films. As the conclusion of this research is to prove that a film or sitcom is a picture of what is happening in society. Apart from that, this research aims to prove that people who like to gossip are people who lack the knowledge to use their free time, and gossip is portrayed by women in Kontrakan Rempong, because not all gossip is a falsehood generated by human envy and jealousy.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat kali ini mengambil tempat di Johar Center English Course (JCEC). JCEC adalah tempat untuk anak anak belajar di luar waktu belajar di sekolah. Kegiatan Pengabdian Masyarakat ini difokuskan untuk membantu anak anak usia sekolah dasar (SD) untuk belajar memahami Bahasa Inggris sejak dini. Kegiatan ini ditujukan untuk membantu anak-anak di JCEC yang membutuhkan pelajaran tambahan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka berbicara bahasa Inggris dengan lancar dan antusias. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini berupaya menawarkan solusi bagi anak anak tersebut. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode To Find Someone untuk anak-anak SD yang menjadi siswa di JCEC.  Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini menunjukan bahwa kegiatan ini dapat membangkitkan motivasi dan keberanian siswa  JCEC untuk belajar berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris tanpa takut membuat kesalahan. Selain itu, metode pengajaran  To Find Someone merupakan metode yang menyenangkan, sehingga para siswa di JCEC memiliki wawasan baru bagaimana mempelajari bahasa Inggris dengan menyenangkan.Kata Kunci: pengabdian masyarakat, berbicara, Bahasa Inggris, siswa JCEC

Abstract

Tujuan pengabdian kegiatan masyarakat ini untuk memberikan solusi dengan membantu anak anak di Johar Center English Course (JCEC) yang membutuhkan pelatihan tambahan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara (speaking) Bahasa Inggris dengan lancar baik secara aktif dan pasif. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga bertujuan agar para siswa juga dalam mengingat kosa kata dalam bahasa Inggris. Dalam pelaksanaannya, tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bergabung bersama tim mentor JCEC untuk memberikan pelatihan dengan memberikan jam belajar tambahan di kelas JCEC tingkat Elementary yang siswanya terdiri dari para remaja yaitu, tingkat SMP- SMA. Kebutuhan para siswa JCEC ini adalah akibat jangka waktu belajar yang singkat selama masa pandemi. Adapun wujud solusi diberikan adalah dengan memberikan pelatihan keterampilan berbicara (speaking) bagi para siswa di JCEC. Tim menggunakan system belajar Active Learning selama masa belajar Bersama Tim Abdimas berlangsung. Active Learning ini digunakan agar para siswa JCEC berperan aktif penuh dalam mengembangkan ide-ide mereka pada teks pidato mereka, pidato tersebut ditunjukkan secara lisan di depan kelas. Di akhir kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini, hasil yang diperoleh adalah: (1) Penguasaan kosa kata dan tata bahasa Inggris siswa meningkat. (2) Siswa memahami bagaimana cara menyusun kalimat dalam berbicara menggunakan bahasa Inggris dengan tata bahasa yang benar. (3) Siswa merasa senang dalam berbahasa Inggris dan tidak merasa tertekan.

Abstract

Menulis dalam bahasa Inggris masih merupakan hal yang ditakuti oleh sebagian besar siswa di sekolah dariTingkat sekolah dasar (SD) hingga sekolah menengah atas (SMA). Hal ini karena masih rendahnya pemahaman parasiswa di sekolah terhadap pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Kali ini, tim pengabdian kepada masyarakat UNINDRAmengadakan kegiatan untuk pendampingan anak-anak di Panti Asuhan Yayasan Mahabbatul Yatim Kabupaten BogorJawa Barat. Sebanyak 16 (enam belas) orang mengikuti pelaksanaan PKM ini. Peserta dalam kegiatan PKM ini adalahanak-anak panti asuhan yang sudah duduk di bangku sekolah pertama (SMP) dan sekolah menengah atas (SMA).Pada kegiatan ini, tim melakukan pendampingan dalam melatih para peserta untuk menulis esai deskriptif dalambahasa Inggris. Tiga tahapan pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan Pengabdian MasyarakatPKM ini adalah: presentasi, yaitu tahap penjelasan, praktik, yaitu tahap latihan, dan pemberian tes berupa penulisandeskriptif. Pendampingan ini juga diharapkan dapat membawa dampak positif bagi peserta sehingga mereka mampumenyusun paragraf bahasa Inggris dengan cara yang mudah dan menyenangkan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah parapeserta pelatihan memperoleh kepercayaan diri dan meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mereka. Umpan balikpositif lainnya juga didapat terhadap materi tim pengajar. Agar peserta dapat memberikan pengaruh positif kepadamitra sasaran kegiatan. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini dapat menanamkan dalam diri mereka rasa tanggungjawab atas bagaimana mereka menerapkan pengetahuan mereka
