Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the implementation of Card Sort strategy in increasing students’ ability to use Adverb in Sentence. The population of this study was the grade VIII students of MTs Muhammadiyah 2019/ 2020 academic years. The writer used cluster random sampling, there were 32 students as the samples And this research applied by classroom action research. The technique of analyzing data of this study was applied by using qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were taken from interview, observation sheet, and document. The quantitative data were taken from the test. The result of the analysis showed that the mean of the first cycle was 59.37. The mean of second cycle was 78.12. The percentage of students who got point up to 65 also grew up. In the pre-test, there was only 15.62% (five students) who got point 65 above. In the post test of cycle I, there was 59.37% (nineteen students) who got point 65 above. It means that there was improvement about 43.75%. In the post test of cycle II, there was 78.12% (twenty one students) who got points 65 above. The improvement was about 18.75%. The total improvement of the students’ score from the pre-test to the post test of cycle II was 62.5%. It indicated that the implementation of Card Sort strategy was effective as it could increase students’ ability to use Adverb in Sentence

Abstract

This research focuses on the effect of Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) to the Students’ Writing Ability on Recount Text at Grade Ten of SMA HKBP 1  Pematangsiantar’. Problem raised in this research was ‘What is the effect of Student Teams Achievement Divisions or STAD on the students’ writing ability at grade ten of SMA HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar’. To answer the problem above, the researchers use the theories of some experts. They are:  Harmer (2004) ,Knapp  & Watkins ( 2005) , Aljanian (2012), Kagan (2009),  Zemach &  Rumisek (2003). The participants were the grade X of SMA HKBP 1 where there are two classes, one is as a control and the other is as an experimental class. The methodology used in this research was the Qualitative research. The data was collected by doing the observation. After the data been collected the researcher found the significant effect of STAD in improving the students’ writing skill. It can be seen from the data where the main score of pretest to post test in experimental class is 56,23 to 80,95. It has a great change. The result showed that the students at grade X of SMA HKBP 1 Pematangsiantar are able to improve their writing skill especially in recount text by applying STAD strategy in the class.

Abstract

Language is a system to communicate with people around us. One branch of language is pragmatic. Pragmatic is the study of contextual meaning. Contextual meaning is getting from language use or relation of language and context. Deixis is one of study in pragmatic learn about the relation of language and context. Deixis or deictic expression is an expression to indicate to the participant, time, place, discourse and social status. The aims of this research are to found types of deixis and the dominant type used in “What the old man does is always right” written by Hans Christian Andersen in 1930. The story was taken from the internet website of http://hca.gilead.org.il/old_man.html. The source of data is that short story and the data is the word in that story point to types of deixis. This research used Levinson theory in categorized types of deixis. Types of deixis based on Levinson theory are person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis and social deixis. This research used descriptive qualitative method because the data analyzed in word form and explain the data descriptively. The data analyzed step are read the whole text, classified and analyzed based on the theory. The findings of this research are short story used five types of deixis and the dominant type used is person deixis (77.95%). The other types of deixis are time deixis (4.41%), place deixis (4.04%), discourse deixis (9.92%), and social deixis (3.68%). Deixis or deictic expression needed to have more understanding in read short story “What the old man does is always right”.

Abstract

Rendahnya tingkat kesadaran dan kemampuan guru secara umum mengenai media pengajaran yang lebih modern dengan mengikuti zaman kemajuan teknologi menyebabkan para guru merasa kesulitan dalam menyampaikan materi dan sulit untuk memotivasi siswa karena para guru masih mengajar dengan metode yang sudah usang dan kuno. Kurangnya inovasi serta sulitnya sarana dan prasarana menyebabkan kreativitas guru terhambat, padahal negara Indonesia merupakan salah satu pengguna ponsel pintar terbesar di dunia. Penggunaan ponsel pintar atau smartphone sebenarnya dapat difungsikan dalam peningkatan pembelajaran yang lebih menarik untuk siswa. Salah satu cara edukasi yang dapat meningkatkan gairah dan motivasi siswa adalah dengan game. Tentunya game yang dimaksud adalah game edukasi sangat menarik dalam bentuk “Kids Learning”. Android adalah sistem operasi seluler yang berisi sistem operasi, middleware, dan aplikasi untuk perangkat berbasis linux. Penggunaan metode game edukasi “Kids Learning” diharapkan dapat diaplikasikan dan digunakan dengan android untuk mempermudah guru dalam menggunakannya. Tujuannya adalah tentunya siswa menjadi lebih termotivasi dan minat belajar lebih tinggi karena anak-anak menyukai game. Hal ini dimaksudkan agar dengan mengimplementasikan hasil dari game edukasi ini, siswa dapat belajar dengan lebih efektif, berpikir kreatif dengan lebih baik, dan memperoleh akses ke pengetahuan yang lebih canggih

Abstract

Listening comprehension plays the most crucial role in building communication skills. However, students always think it is challenging to listening lessons. And the reason is that sometimes they are bored and not interested in the material. In addition, inappropriate methods and techniques may cause students to lack interest and motivation to learn. The author is interested in conducting research with the dictogloss technique to overcome the difficulties faced by students in learning activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the learning process of listening comprehension and to find out the advantages of the dictogloss technique in class X IPA 1 at MAN Pegasing. This study uses classroom action research, data collection techniques using pre-test and post-test, and questionnaires to determine the advantages of the dictogloss technique. The results of this study indicate that the dictogloss technique effectively improves student achievement in listening comprehension at MAN Pegasasing. Furthermore, the students agreed that the dictogloss technique is one of the exciting techniques and can improve student achievement in listening.

Abstract

Sebagai bentuk bahasa, ekspresi kiasan penting untuk diajarkan di sekolah atau dipelajari oleh siapa saja untuk memahami makna yang diungkapkan dalam teks yang mengandung bahasa kiasan. Penelitian ini akan dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Ini melibatkan deskripsi, perekaman, analisis, dan interpretasi kondisi yang ada. Dalam beguru, reje membawa beberapa perangkat desa, yaitu RGM (Rakyat Genap), Petue (Tokoh Orang Tua), dan pendeta. Mereka memiliki tugas masing-masing dalam perannya, seperti RGM (Rakyat Genap) adalah perwakilan masyarakat yang duduk di pemerintahan desa, yang tugasnya menyampaikan pengaduan masyarakat kepada reje dan memfasilitasi urusan masyarakat kepada reje.

Abstract

This research was conducted using the Classroom Action Research method, which was conducted to describe the application of the scrabble game to improve the vocabulary of the first graders of SMPN1 Bahorok. Classroom Action Research Method (CAR) is a method used to solve students' problems in learning English, especially vocabulary. The Kemmis and McTaggart design used in this study, which consisted of four stages; planning; action; observation; and reflection on each cycle. To support the research results, two types of data were collected; Qualitative data obtained from observations, teacher and student interviews. As for quantitative data, data from tests; pre-test and post-test. Furthermore, the data were analyzed descriptively and statistical analysis to determine the final result of the application of the scrabble game on the student learning process in Classroom Action Research (CAR). The results of this study indicate that the use of scrabble games for vocabulary learning in class I SMPN 1 Bahorok is said to be effective and can help students increase vocabulary. Student responses indicate that students are interested in learning English because students find the activity interesting. Simultaneously, student achievement obtained from the pre-test and post-test showed a significant increase. The mean score of the pre-test students was 56.42 while the average score of the post-test students was 74.82, an increase of 18.4. From these results, it can be concluded that teaching vocabulary using scrabble games in grade I SMPN1 Bahorok is effective and can increase students' vocabulary

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh signifikan Penggunaan Strategi Index Card Match terhadap pemahaman menyimak siswa berbantuan media youtube dan untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap penggunaan Index Card Match berbantuan media youtube. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian true-experimental design. Sampel diambil dengan menggunakan Teknik Random Sampling. Sampel diambil dua kelas yaitu kelas VIII-1 yang terdiri dari 25 siswa sebagai Kelas Eksperimen (menggunakan index card match) dan kelas VIII-2 yang terdiri dari 26 siswa sebagai Kelas Kontrol (menggunakan metode konvensional). Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 51 siswa kelas II SMP Swasta Al-Hikmah Marelan. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan pre-test, post-test dan kuesioner. Untuk menganalisis data menggunakan T-Test Non Parametrik pada software SPSS versi 24.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) adalah 0,000 < 0,05 dan perbandingan skor rata-rata posttest kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen adalah 70,54 < 86,56 dan hasil kuesioner yang diperoleh dari 25 tanggapan mendapatkan rata-rata skor 77,36% yang mendapat respon baik dari siswa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan Penggunaan Strategi Index Card Match terhadap Pemahaman Mendengarkan Siswa di SMP Swasta Al-Hikmah. Strategi Index Card Match lebih efektif dibandingkan dengan metode konvensional dan penggunaan index card match cocok digunakan oleh guru dan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran.

The REACT learning strategy was introduced by the Center of Occupational Research and Development (CORD) in the United States, and it has garnered the attention of many researchers who generally study this learning strategy in the field of science subjects. Therefore, this learning strategy was designed to stimulate and attract the enthusiasm of the students in Islamic religious education, in order to facilitate their understanding and consequently improve their academic performance. This research was conducted to investigate the effect of the REACT learning strategy on students' academic achievement in Islamic religious studies at the Madrasah Aliyah. The method used was a classroom action research, "siklus" in research "cycle" atau "research cycle". this research was conducted in three different research cycles."The research sample was from the 10th grade students of Muhammadiyah 1 Private Madrasah Aliyah in Medan. Data were collected through pre-, post-siklus and monitoring attitude in academic achievement assessments in Islamic religious studies, as well as their application in daily life. Data were analyzed using a quantitative conclusion of the percentage of test scores. The results show that there is a significant difference in academic achievement between students who were taught using the REACT learning strategy. Before implementing the strategy, students had a percentage of 69%, whereas after implementing the REACT learning strategy, they achieved a high percentage of 85%. This indicates that the REACT learning strategy has a positive effect on students' academic achievement in Islamic religious studies at the Madrasah Aliyah.
