Abstract

It is known that plasmonic nanoparticles in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) could enhance efficiency through improvement in light absorbance and electron dynamics. Herein we investigated various sizes of AuNP through spontaneous Al(NO3 )3 addition. Core-Shell Au@TiO2 was prepared with various Al(NO3 )3 concentrations of 0.25 mM, 0.5 mM, 0.75 mM and 1 mM. The Au@TiO2 volume fraction of 1% was further added to TiO2 photoanode. Based on the particle size analyzer (PSA) characteristics, the synthesized AuNP’s size was within a range of 34.62 nm – 139.5 nm. The highest efficiency of DSSC was obtained for the sample with the largest AuNP ’s diameter, i.e., 0.0313%, which is about three times higher than pristine DSSC. The increase in efficiency was in accord with Metallic Nanoparticle Boundary Element Method (MNPBEM) simulation, UV-vis spectroscopy, and Incident Photon to Current Conversion Efficiency (IPCE) analysis largest Au core diameter contributes to the strong absorbance and hence the short circuit current

Abstract

Studies of comparing the performance of photoelectrode for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) continue to be carried out and developed. The ZnO nanorods as an electrode for DSSCs have been shown to have high electron collection due to the capability of electron photoexcitation and increased electron transport. Various methods of making ZnO nanorods have been studied and developed. However, the method requires controlled conditions under high temperature and pressure, thus limiting the commercialization of ZnO nanorods. Therefore, the seed solution-based hydrothermal method was chosen in the ZnO nanorod deposition process because it is an effective method, low-cost and easier fabrication process. The method of growing ZnO nanorod was carried out with three times of growing for 6 hours. ZnO nanorod was synthesized using different seed solutions, namely sample 1 and sample 2 by using methoxy and isopropanol, respectively. In this work, the SEM image shows the growth of ZnO nanorods vertically aligned on the FTO substrate and resulted in a smaller diameter for the isopropanol seed solution. The smaller diameter of the ZnO nanorod provides a larger surface area then increasing the total amount of dye attached to the ZnO nanorod and improve the photovoltaic performance.DOI:  10.17977/um024v6i22021p077

Abstract

This present study constitutes a systematic investigation imto the influence of low-concentration Yb2O3 incorporation on the physical, mechanical, and optical properties of TeO2 ZnO Na2O (TZN) glasses. The glasses under consideration are composed of 65TeO2-(30-x)ZnO-5Na2O- xYb2O3 (x = 0-2.5 mol%). The fabrication process utilized the conventional melt-quenching technique. The present study specifically addresses the limited understanding of how minor Yb3+ incorporation affects the structure-property relationships in TZN glass systems. The results obtained demonstrate progressive densification of the glass network in the presence of increasing Yb2O3 content. This is evidenced by an increase in density from 5.15 to 5.62 g cm-3 and a corresponding decrease in molar volume. This phenomenon is correlated to enhanced network connectivity and it was attributed to the alteration of Non-Bridging Oxygen (NBO) to Bridging Oxygen (BO) linkages. Consequently, an enhancement in mechanical properties is observed with increasing both Young’s (50.67 to 52.61 GPa) and Bulk (29.77 to 31.89 GPa) modulus, respectively. It is suggested that these factors result in enhanced glass rigidity and durability. The optical investigation demonstrates a broadening of the optical band gap from 3.01 to 3.30 eV. This suggests the presence of a denser glass network and declined glass electronic polarizability. The findings of the study indicated that the integration of low-level Yb2O3 into TZN-based glasses can result in a modification of the glasses properties, thereby highlighting the potential for advanced application in the domain of photonics.
