Abstract

A significant concern with the food security issue worldwide is indigenous peoples and their food resources. The indigenous peoples of Papua are still very dependent on rice, a heavily imported commodity. During the global pandemic, the indigenous peoples of Papua faced the issue of food supply and food resilience. Simultaneously, Indonesia has the largest sago (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) palm-growing areas, accounting for over half (51%) of the 2.3 million hectares of sago worldwide, and about 90% of sago is estimated to be in Papua and Maluku. Indigenous food crops such as sago are exceptionally resilient to adverse local environments, highlighting their crucial role in ensuring food and nutrition security, particularly during a natural disaster. However, despite sago’s multiple uses and benefits, it is still poorly evaluated as a food resource by the government, with consumption at relatively low levels. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art regarding indigenous peoples and their food resources, focusing on why sago is essential, not only for the indigenous peoples of Papua but also for the possibility of introducing sago to the world.

Abstract

The creative industry in Depok City shows positive growth, contributing significantly to the city's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This article explores the potential and challenges of creative economy development in Depok using SWOT analysis. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the economy in general, the creative economy in Depok continues to grow and develop as one of the mainstay sectors supporting regional economic growth. The research also noted that the understanding of the community and related agencies regarding the prospects of the creative industry is still minimal. Therefore, there need to be further efforts to maximise the potential of the creative industry in this city. The purpose of this study is to map the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of the creative economy potential in Depok City, along with strategic recommendations for its implementation. This research is expected to serve as a guide for the Depok City Government and related stakeholders in planning and implementing interventions that support the development of the creative economy in Depok City, especially post-pandemic.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the integration of local culture in a smart city. The novelty of this research introduces the concept of a Culturally Integrated Smart City, which emphasizes the importance of integrating the Smart City technology framework with local cultural values so that the development of smart cities becomes more inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in local wisdom. The research used a descriptive qualitative. The main data source in this research was obtained from informants. The initial informants were selected purposefully: people who understand problems in collaborative governance and smart cities. The research found that effective communication through face-to-face dialogue in development planning provides space for the community to convey aspirations, which become part of government policy. In addition, building trust between the government and the community has proven crucial in managing Smart City initiatives, especially in developing technological infrastructure such as CCTV surveillance systems and tourist alley revitalization programs. The commitment of local governments, the private sector, and active community participation in every stage of the implementation of the Sombere-based Smart City in Makassar reflects solid collaboration based on local cultural values. The limitations of this research emphasize the aspects of collaboration and cultural integration in Smart Cities but have not discussed in depth the technical and economic aspects that also affect the sustainability of Smart City.

Abstract

This research raises the issue of stunting, which is not only a serious public health challenge in Depok City but also worldwide. The main focus of the research is to identify and analyze the factors that support and hinder the implementation of policies to accelerate stunting reduction in Depok City and formulate an optimal implementation model. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study collected data through in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and observations. The analysis was conducted using NVivo 14 software by applying Knill and Tosun's determinants of policy implementation approach. Results show that factors such as political will, program innovation, human resource quality, and social acceptance are key enablers, while budget inefficiency and sectoral ego were found to be the main inhibitors. The proposed implementation model integrates policy instruments, policy design, control structure, institutional design, administrative capacity, and social acceptance with a focus on sustainability. This research makes an important contribution to the development of knowledge in the fields of government science and public administration and the practice of public policy, particularly in efforts to accelerate stunting reduction in Depok City and other regions in Indonesia.

Abstract

Urban waste management in Depok faces increasing challenges due to rapid population growth and inadequate infrastructure, with waste production estimated to reach 70 million tons nationally by 2025. This requires innovation in local governance technology and socio-economic realities. This review synthesizes the literature on policy coherence, community participation, and the adoption of Smart Waste Management Systems (SWMS), the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence applications. Findings indicate that although digital tools and smart technologies offer the potential for increased efficiency, their integration is still limited by deficiencies in infrastructure, data governance, and institutional coordination. Studies emphasize the crucial role of community-based initiatives and participatory governance in achieving sustainable outcomes, particularly through education and public awareness programs that promote the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principles. Economic analysis also highlights opportunities in waste-to-energy conversion technologies and waste-to-fuel systems to support financial sustainability. However, socioeconomic inequality and limited inclusion of marginalized communities hinder equitable implementation. This review concludes that Depok's success in waste management depends on harmonizing technological advances with inclusive governance, consistent long-term policies, and community empowerment. Therefore, theoretical contributions through a multifaceted approach that combines innovation, regulation, and social engagement are essential to building a resilient, sustainable, and equitable urban waste management system that can adapt to future environmental challenges.
