Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to deepen the understanding of the influence of emotional labor ability and rewards on employee performance, with a case study focusing on PT MI.Methodology: This study used a quantitative approach by collecting data using a questionnaire from 30 employees of the marketing division of PT MI. Statistical analyses were performed to examine employee characteristics, the validity and reliability of the questionnaire, the dimensions of variables, and the links between variables, mainly using multiple linear regression. Results: The results indicate that rewards significantly affect job performance, while emotional labor does not have a significant impact. Both independent variables simultaneously and significantly influence job performance. The coefficient of determination of 62.3% indicates that emotional labor and rewards can explain 62.3% of the variability in job performance, while the remaining variability is explained by other factors. Conclusions: It is concluded that emotional labor does not affect work performance. While rewards have a significant effect on work performance. Emotional labor and rewards together significantly affect work performance. Emotional labor and rewards can predict 62.3% of the value of work performance.Limitations: We face a limitation in collecting a higher number of respondents due to the limited number of employees in the marketing division of PT MI.Contribution: This study found that financial and non-financial rewards significantly enhance job performance through intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and psychological contracts between employees and the organization. In contrast, the lack of a significant impact of emotional labor may be due to individual differences in managing emotions, job characteristics, and other dominant factors, such as technical skills and intrinsic motivation. These findings underscore the importance of rewards in improving employee performance and the need for further research on the role of emotional labor in various contexts.

Abstract

This study investigated the strategic development of PT Alam Sutera Realty Tbk (ASRI), focusing on diversification as a key strategy for business sustainability amidst issues of undervalued stock and unstable financial performance. A comprehensive analysis of external and internal factors was conducted using frameworks such as PESTLE, Porter’s 5 Forces, Internal-External Matrix, TOWS Matrix, SPACE Matrix, Grand Strategy Matrix, Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM), Blue Ocean Recommendation, and Balanced Scorecard. The findings indicated that ASRI scored 3.21 on the Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE) and 3.29 on the External Factor Evaluation (EFE), placing it in the "Grow and Build" quadrant of the SPACE Matrix. This suggested strategies such as forward, backward, and horizontal integration, market penetration, market development, and product development. The Grand Strategy Matrix, supported by Competitive Profile Matrix (CPM) scores and industry growth data, advocated for diversification or new venture formation through joint ventures. QSPM analysis identified Product Development in Vertical Buildings and Sustainable Housing as ASRI’s most attractive and promising strategies. Vertical building development optimized land use and met rising urban market demands, while sustainable housing appealed to the environmentally conscious segment. Future recommendations for ASRI included increased investment in research and development, partnerships with green technology firms, and continuous market trend monitoring to ensure strategic relevance and effectiveness in the evolving real estate industry. This diversified approach aimed to leverage new market opportunities and strengthen ASRI’s market position through strategic expansion and collaboration.

Abstract

Recruitment and selection are critical components of human resource management, as they directly influence an organization’s ability to attract, identify, and retain top talent in a competitive industry. Despite extensive literature on recruitment strategies, limited research examines the integration of these practices with long-term organizational goals in Indonesian construction firms. This study explores the strategic recruitment and selection processes at WIKA Rekayasa Konstruksi (WRK), a subsidiary of PT Wijaya Karya Tbk (WIKA), and their impact on the quality of human resources as well as organizational performance. This study seeks to address this gap by analyzing WRK’s methodologies, assessing their effectiveness, and offering strategic recommendations for improvement. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, the data was collected through interviews with a key informant, WRK’s Senior Manager of the Human Capital division. The findings reveal that while WRK employs comprehensive methods—such as competitive salary offerings, digital recruitment platforms, and multi-stage evaluations—there is room for improvement in aligning recruitment practices with strategic objectives and enhancing transparency in cost-related communication during post-selection stages. This research contributes to the academic discourse by highlighting best practices and challenges in recruitment within the construction sector, offering actionable insights for organizations aiming to optimize human resource management strategies.

Abstract

This study explores the contribution of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to sustainability through bibliometric analysis and a literature review, focusing on their role in supporting economic, environmental, and social sustainability in Indonesia. A bibliometric approach was employed to evaluate research trends, publication patterns, and the distribution of studies by country in literature published between 2019 and 2024. Literature searches were conducted in the Scopus database using the keywords "SME*" or "MSME*" and "sustainability," yielding 962 relevant documents. Analysis using VOSviewer identified frequently recurring keywords and mapped research clusters related to the contributions of MSMEs. The key findings indicate that MSMEs play a crucial role in achieving sustainability goals, despite facing challenges such as limited resources and restricted access to technology. Through innovation, collaboration, and appropriate policy support, MSMEs have the potential to overcome these barriers. The implications of this study highlight the importance of a multidimensional approach involving all stakeholders, including government, the private sector, and local communities. Strategic efforts such as adopting sustainable business practices, leveraging modern technologies, and enhancing capacity through training are essential to strengthening MSMEs' contributions to sustainability. The study concludes that MSMEs' role is not only significant for the economy but also has broad implications for environmental and social sustainability, underscoring the need for comprehensive support to empower MSMEs in addressing global challenges.

Abstract

Backgrounds. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in modern business, influencing competitive dynamics and reshaping consumer behavior. As AI applications expand across industries, understanding their strategic impact on market competition and consumer engagement becomes increasingly vital for business sustainability and innovation. Methods. This study employs a mixed-method approach combining bibliometric analysis and systematic literature review to examine the interrelationship between AI, market competition, and consumer behaviour. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Scopus database for the period 2015–2025, with VOSviewer utilized to map keyword co-occurrences and thematic clusters. Subsequently, a qualitative literature review was performed on thematically relevant and highly cited articles to extract insights on AI’s practical implementations, competitive implications, consumer analytics, and ethical concerns. Results. The findings reveal a marked increase in scholarly attention to AI-driven business strategies, particularly between 2023 and 2024. AI is shown to influence market competition by enhancing operational efficiency, fostering innovation, supporting data-driven decision-making, and improving strategic adaptability. In terms of consumer behaviour, AI enables pattern recognition, real-time responsiveness, personalized marketing, and demand forecasting, contributing to customer satisfaction and loyalty. Additionally, AI-powered business operations—such as dynamic pricing and product recommendation systems—further optimize performance. However, ethical challenges, including data privacy, algorithmic bias, and regulatory gaps, underscore the need for responsible AI adoption. Conclusions. AI serves as both a technological enabler and strategic asset in contemporary business ecosystems. Its influence extends beyond automation, offering firms competitive advantage through improved agility and consumer-centered strategies. To fully leverage AI’s potential, businesses must balance innovation with ethical considerations, ensuring transparent governance and human oversight in AI integration.

Abstract

This perspective explores the integration of strategic human resource management (strategic HRM) and sustainable human resource management (sustainable HRM) as a dual strategy for organizational competitive advantage. Strategic HRM focuses on aligning HR policies with business goals to maximize employee engagement, innovation, and productivity, thereby enhancing organizational performance. Key strategic HRM practices include performance management, talent development, and fostering a cohesive company culture that values inclusivity and adaptability. However, strategic HRM’s strategic focus often prioritizes immediate organizational needs over long-term societal concerns. In contrast, sustainable HRM emphasizes a broader, long-term perspective, addressing economic, social, and environmental impacts. This approach integrates multi-stakeholder engagement, ethical practices, and a commitment to societal well-being, thus ensuring the organization’s resilience and sustainability. The research highlights the evolving nature of HRM, noting that the contemporary business landscape requires organizations to balance financial success with social responsibility and environmental stewardship. The findings underscore the complementary nature of strategic HRM and sustainable HRM. While strategic HRM drives performance and competitive advantage, sustainable HRM ensures ethical governance and societal impact. Implementing both approaches enhances organizational adaptability, employee satisfaction, and long-term success. This paper concludes with strategic recommendations for HR leaders, emphasizing the need for strategic alignment, stakeholder engagement, and flexible HR practices that promote both organizational excellence and sustainability.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia’s palm oil supply chain (POSC) plays a critical role in the global economy, contributing over 60% of the world’s crude palm oil (CPO) supply. Despite extensive research on palm oil production and sustainability, there remains a lack of comprehensive bibliometric analysis that maps the evolution of POSC research, identifies key knowledge gaps, and highlights emerging trends. Methods: This study addresses this gap by employing a bibliometric approach to analyze academic research on POSC from 2007 to 2024. Using Scopus data and VOSviewer for visualization, the study identifies key trends, influential authors, research hotspots, and international collaborations. Findings: Results show a significant increase in publications since 2016, driven by global concerns over sustainability, climate change, and the social impacts of palm oil production. Indonesia leads research output, with international collaborations predominantly involving Malaysia and the United States. The findings reveal a shift toward sustainability research, emphasizing environmental challenges, smallholder inclusion, and technological innovations. Conclusion: This study contributes to the literature by providing a systematic mapping of POSC research, highlighting underexplored areas such as supply chain transparency and the role of palm oil in biofuels. Future research should focus on balancing economic development with environmental stewardship and leveraging interdisciplinary approaches to address sustainability challenges. Novelty/Originality of this article: highlights the growing intersection of POSC research with sustainability, technological innovation, and policy development, offering valuable insights for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers.
