Abstract

Posyandu plays a central role in organizing primary healthcare services in Indonesia. Posyandu cadres, as the primary agents providing education to mothers, aim to create healthy and happy families. Family happiness is not only related to physical health but also involves psychological and social dimensions. This activity was conducted to enhance the capacity and understanding of the concept of "happy mother" in the context of a happy family among 49 Posyandu cadres in Malang City. The training approach adopted includes lectures, group discussions, and assessments to measure changes in the understanding of Posyandu cadres. The results of pre and post-tests indicate a significant improvement in the understanding of Posyandu cadres regarding the concepts of a happy mother and a happy family, increasing from a score of 54.5 to 79. With a deeper understanding, Posyandu cadres are expected to provide more comprehensive support. The increased capacity of Posyandu cadres also provides opportunities for them to design and implement more effective educational programs on the concepts of a happy mother and a happy family. Therefore, it is anticipated that these efforts will bring about a significantly positive impact on the overall well-being of families and the community. Abstract

Abstract

Research on collaborative learning in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), particularly from the students’ perspectives, remains relatively limited due to prevailing focuses on teacher-centered approaches and individual assessment. The present study addresses the gap by exploring how collaborative learning impacts student engagement and outcomes in an English Medical Purposes (EMP) course. A total of 328 Medicine, Nursing, and Nutrition students completed a questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale to evaluate their perspectives on collaborative learning. Results show overall satisfaction, with mean ratings ranging from 4.00 to 4.25 across key aspects such as utility, alignment with expectations, enjoyment, practical application, sense of community, exchange of ideas, and skill development. These findings underscore the value of collaborative learning in fostering active participation and supportive learning environments. In addition, as the identification of potential weaknesses in current implementations of collaborative learning in EMP contexts was not explored, future research should investigate the challenges and develop targeted strategies to optimize collaborative learning experiences in EMP settings.

Abstract

In Indonesian higher education institutions, English has been taught for the past few decades to fulfill the specific academic and professional needs of students. The present study investigates medical students’ needs for English when studying for their medical degrees which indirectly benefits their professional environments. Through survey-based research, this study examined the communication requirements of students at the Faculty of Medicine at both the academic and professional levels. The data collected through an adapted questionnaire were gathered, examined, and statistically interpreted. Three hundred medical, midwifery, and pharmacy students responded. Their answers highlight the importance of English for students' ability to participate in and understand medical discourse and communicate formally in academic settings. Accordingly, the findings of the study should contribute to improving the course objectives and syllabus, so as a result, the study will definitely benefit the learners for whom it is designed.
