Abstract

In this research, we explore students' perceptions of teaching and learning, focusing on its relevance to quality assurance. Employing a quantitative method, we aim to understand the extent to which students on English Education Department, Faculty of Education and Vocational Science value various instruments associated with their perceptions of teaching and learning in the context of quality assurance. Data was Collected from thirty respondents using questionnaire. The study's findings reveal that students consistently recognize the significance of teaching and learning practices in maintaining quality assurance, as explicitly the mean score as Moderate (M=3.91). As a conclusion drawn from these results, it is imperative for educators to strategically enhance students' interest in order to amplify the perceived value of teaching and learning processes, thereby contributing to an enriched educational experience and reinforcing the overall quality assurance framework.

Abstract

In the light of globalization, intercultural competence is crucially demanded by the language learners to be successful speakers and mediators in international interaction and communication. This study aims at investigating how the Indonesian EFL students view and undertake the culture learning in their classrooms. This study was a survey research carried out in October and December 2016 in two state universities: 1) University of Riau (UR) located in Riau Province and 2) Brawijaya University (UB) in Malang-East Java. There were a total of 80 participants involved by using random sampling. The student questionnaire (adopted and adapted from HST. Kiet, 2011) consisting of six statements was used. To answer the research question, descriptive statistics analysis (Sum of score, Mean and Standard Deviation) was used to analyse the completed student questionnaire. The findings reveal that the students showed positive attitudes in culture learning purposes; they mainly learned cultural facts oriented to target culture exploration as the dominant cultural learning in the classroom; they used media such as internet, TV and literature as the most dominant cultural learning sources outside the classroom; they found that culture learning benefited them to their EFL learning; and finally they agreed that the target culture should be taught together with the target language in EFL classes. Therefore, it is suggested that future researchers do such an in-depth study pertaining to students’ ICC learning and development in the environment of classroom interactions.

Abstract

This study will analyze the dialectical interaction between the global South and North in redefining intellectual property (IP) norms in the digital era, specifically by situating them in norm contestation. The focus of research will be on Brazil and India on the one hand, while the United States and Japan on the other hand. These countries are chosen based on their significance in challenging and defending existing IP norms in various international fora, namely Joint Initiative on E-Commerce and G20. Drawing on constructivist theory, the study applies the concept of norm entrepreneurs and antipreneurs which are helpful in mapping out the different positions and strategies of these countries. The study will probe how Brazil and India, as norm entrepreneurs pursue a more flexible IP norm, while those of the antipreneurs, the U.S and Japan, seek more protective IP norms. Despite the uncertainties, these contestations provide opportunities for the global South to restructure the normative architecture of the intellectual property, though with limited success.

Abstract

PDAM Tirta Massenrempulu is the main provider of piped clean water by utilizing river and spring water as its main water source. Anggeraja sub-district experiences an increase in population every year so that the demand for raw water also increases. Therefore, discharge data is essential for managing the available water resources. The purpose of this study is to analyze the availability and demand of raw water in Anggeraja Sub-district using the FJ Mock method. Based on the results, it was found that the availability of raw water can meet the needs of the population in Anggeraja District. For instance, the projected water availability in 2034 is 74.46 m³/second. Meanwhile, the comparison between water availability and demand over the next 20 years shows a continuous increase in demand. In 2024, the available raw water is 36.65 m³/second, and by 2034, the demand rises to 66.46 m³/second. Thus, the water balance indicates a surplus, with an excess of 37.90 m³/second in 2024 and 7.90 m³/second in 2043.
