Abstract

This research aimed to provide empirical evidence of the impact of the Word Attack Strategy on students' achievement in reading descriptive texts, specifically among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri I Teluk Mengkudu. The study was conducted as experimental research, with the population consisting of all seventh-grade students. The sample included 20 students in the experimental group and 19 students in the control group. Data was collected using a test as the primary instrument and analyzed using a t-test formula. The analysis revealed that the mean score of the experimental group was 94.25, while the control group had a mean score of 71.05. The findings indicate that the Word Attack Strategy had a significant effect on reading skills, as evidenced by the t-score (t₀) of 6.189, which was higher than the t-table (tₜ) value of 1.687 at a significance level of 0.05. Therefore, the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, demonstrating that the Word Attack Strategy is more effective and significant in improving reading skills compared to conventional methods.

This research method uses a Research and Development (R&D) using the ADDIE development model to develop the teaching materials for the children's literature based on wisdom of local area (North Sumatra) which consists of the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The sample in this study was the fifth grade students of SD (primary school) of Swasta Muhammadiyah 12 Medan in Medan.  The results proved that the students’ learning outcomes in children's literature increased after using teaching materials based on local area wisdom (North Sumatra).  The average score of the students before using teaching materials was 68, meanwhile the average value of the students after using teaching materials was 82. The test scores for the children's literature appreciation learning outcomes obtained an average score of 79.2.  The results of the calculation through the t test by using SPSS test showed a significant result before and after using the teaching materials.  It can be concluded that the teaching materials for the children's literature based on local area wisdom (North Sumatra) are appropriate for the students to use.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the process of implementation of Presentation Practice Production to improve students’ speaking skill. The study was conducted by using two cycles, where each cycle consists of three meetings and each meeting include four steps, namely: Planning, Implementing, Observing, and Reflecting. The qualitative datas were taken from the result of the test that had been given to the students. The test that was given still relevant to the topic that was taught and discussed in the classroom in every cycle. There were two cycles that were considered of four meetings in this research and the test was given in the last of each cycle. The Quantitative data was taken test that gave to the students in the last of each cycle. The result indicated that there was an increasing on the students speaking skill by using presentation, practice, and production (PPP) technique. The mean of the first cycle were 66 it was good enough. The mean of second cycle were 79 it indicated that the scores and the mean in second cycle were better than the first cycle. The percentage of students who got point ? 70 also grew up. In the pre-test, the students who got point ? 70 up were only 2 students (10%). In the post- test of cycle (I) students who got point ? 70 up were 11 students (55%) it means that there were an increasing about 45%. The post-test of cycle (II), students who got point 70 to up there were 20 students (100%) and the increasing were about 45%. For the total increasing of the students’ score from pre-test to post-test of cycle two (II) were100%. Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of using collaborative learning activities in reducing students' speaking anxiety. Collaborative learning methods are expected to have a positive impact on students' speaking skills by increasing their active participation in class. This study used an emotional intelligence scale and a Likert scale-based questionnaire to reveal aspects of collaborative learning. The results of this study are 1) normality text is Kolmogorov-Smirnov sig value on Tests of Normality For control class is VIII-1 with pretest significance0.154 0.005 and post test 0.036 0.005 while For class experiment that is class VIII-2 with pretest VIII-2 significance 0.200 0.005 and post test 0.124 0.005; 2) Homogenity text second variable value the sign is 0.700 and 0.81 shows that the data is homogeneous because mark significance 0.005. This matter show that in study This No there is similarity variance from moderate variable tested; 3) Hypotesis Testing obtained The t value is 23.158 and the sig value . (2 tailed) is 0.000 0.005. The results of the study are expected to be applied in schools to improve the quality of education and provide valuable experience for researchers in conducting action research related to collaborative learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out what phonological errors are the most frequent in EFL learners with SoundType AI application. This studyl emlployled a quantitative research design to investigate how advanced Artificial Intelligence technologies imlproved pronouncing qualityl froml the perspective of EFL students. The population for this research includes the EFL learners enrolled in English Education in the Facultyl of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas MLuhamlmladiylah Sumlatera Utara that have finished the Phonologyl course. Sample used for the research wasl 22 EFL learners to ensure statistical significance and allow for subgroup analylsis. The data obtained from the reading test was identified a total of 58 errors across the recordings, with the predominant types being Omissions (20,68%) and mishearings by the speech recognition software (27,43%), Substitutions (18,96%) and Additions (18,96%) and Distortions (15,51%). Overall, these findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to address the specific phonological difficulties faced by EFL learners. Additionally, reading exposes learners to different cultures and perspectives. This cultural awareness enriches their understanding of the world and helps them connect with others more effectively.
