Abstract

The phenomenon of migrant families is one form of parenting that causes limitations for parents in carrying out their roles and functions as caregivers and educators of children. Children's interaction with parents is limited, causing a lack of control over children's character development. The purpose of this study is to examine in depth the role of the family in instilling children's social character and to analyse the role of kiai in shaping the social character of children left behind by migrants in Bangkes Village. This research method is qualitative by involving caregivers, namely mothers and aunts and Kiai figures as the main informants. This research was conducted on Madurese migrants' family in Bangkes Village, Kadur Sub-district, Pamekasan Regency with data collection methods of observation, interview, and documentation. The results showed that the parenting role of children in Bangkes village was carried out by mothers and family, namely aunts. The form of family parenting is effective in shaping the social character of children who are more independent, responsible and have integrity based on their level of education and knowledge. In addition, the role of Kiai as a religious figure helps shape and provide control over children's character through understanding moral and religious values. The implications of this research provide recommendations for collaborative parenting plans between families and religious leaders.

Abstract

This study investigates the structural determinants of teacher performance and educational quality within Islamic elementary schools (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah) in Surabaya, Indonesia. It specifically examines the impact of principal managerial skills, charismatic leadership, and organizational culture on these outcomes. Adopting a quantitative approach, data were collected from 150 respondents, comprising teachers and principals selected through purposive sampling. The study utilized Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypothesized relationships and evaluate the predictive power of the model. The results reveal that principal managerial skills (beta=0.45) have the strongest direct influence on teacher performance, followed by organizational culture (beta=0.42 Primary School) and charismatic leadership (beta=0.38). Furthermore, teacher performance serves as a critical mediator, significantly impacting educational quality (beta=0.52). The model explains 63% of the variance in teacher performance (R2=0.63) and 58% in educational quality (R2=0.58). The findings suggest that enhancing educational quality in Islamic institutions requires a synergistic approach. Administrators should prioritize professional managerial training and foster a collaborative, value-based organizational culture to optimize teacher engagement and student outcomes. This research bridges a gap in educational management literature by applying PLS-SEM to model the simultaneous interactions between leadership styles, cultural values, and performance metrics specifically within the context of Islamic education.

Abstract

This study examines the Living Qur’an in the religious traditions of the Sasak ethnic group in Karya Mukti Village, Dampelas District, Donggala Regency, from the perspective of Islamic education. The main focus of this research is to explore how the implementation of the Living Qur’an within the religious traditions of the Sasak community in Karya Mukti Village can be viewed from an educational perspective, particularly in shaping Islamic character through Qur’anic values. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews with village heads, religious leaders, traditional leaders, and community figures, as well as through relevant documentation. The data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Living Qur’an is reflected in various religious practices such as completing the Qur’an, congregational prayers, serakan, and hiziban, all of which embody Qur’anic values. Furthermore, Islamic values are manifested in the community’s social life through attitudes of tolerance, cooperation, and respect for religious leaders. From the perspective of Islamic education, these traditions play a significant role in the informal transmission of Islamic values that shape the religious and social character of the younger generation. Thus, the Living Qur'an serves not only as a spiritual symbol but also as a contextual educational medium rooted in local culture.
