Abstract

The Spiritual Journey of Homo Viator: A Comparative Study of Serat Jatimurti with the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11–32). The concept of spiritual journey is known in various religions. Likewise, the concept of Homo Viator or humans who made the trip. This paper examines the concept of a spiritual journey in Serat Jatimurti, one of the Kejawen texts, and compares it with the narrative in the Bible, namely the parable of the prodigal son. This study aims to understand the voice of the local spirituality to facilitate the delivery of the gospel to this community. By using cognitive linguistic analysis, the results show some similarities and differences in the Christian view of the spiritual journey and the role of humans in it compared to the Kejawen view. The similarities that exist will increase understanding and appreciation of each spirituality work and become a common ground that provides an effective “bridge” for sharing the gospel. The differences that exist can be an attraction to show the uniqueness of the gospel. With this understanding, this study can provide provisions for Christians in communicating the good news of God’s grace in Christ Jesus to the followers of Kejawen spirituality.

Abstract

Past studies especially done by Walter Ong have shown that the changes in technology and culture could trigger the emergence of new patterns of communication and relationship that influence human self-understanding, the meaning of life, and the image of God that they believe. This article explores whether the rapid development of digital technology and culture in Indonesia can change the modern Christians’ image of God. By using literature research, it is found that the Indonesian Christians who are already immersed in the digital culture that emphasizes experiential reality, non-stop flexible relationships, and subjective nonphysical presence might prefer the Holy Spirit as God-image in their mind. They even wish for an experiential relationship with the Holy Spirit who relates to human beings in a nonphysical and flexible manner. This study gives hints for Indonesian churches to recognize some challenges in the theological and practical spheres that they have to face.

Abstract

The present economic crises induced by covid pandemic have called our attention toreconsider where we are heading as a global community; because as we know withthe emergence of ubiquitous Internet, then the world has become a global village inreal sense.. Shall we lend ourselves to directive and -at times- insistence to move tonew economy called the industrial revolution 4.0? Or is there another way, even if itseems like a less traveled path for now? In this article, we also re-introduce Pancasilafrom Indonesian weltanschauung (fundamental tenets) to become one of these lesstravelled path available at our table. The essence of the Indonesian Five Principles(Pancasila) is to return to spirit of communal values, but in a peaceful way, not viarevolution. That is a path that in Indonesia, is called as “gotong royong” (or to put itin a more scientific term: cooperative collective dynamics).

Abstract

Abstract

Many studies on the Book of Acts chapter 8 focus on two kinds of baptism, or the Samaritans as the receivers of the Gospel. Further, some works even point out that the text is a part of oral tradition concerning the role of the Apostle Philips. This study explores the message of Acts 8 mainly through the relation between the two narratives in it, and with the whole message of the Book of Acts mainly chapter 1, 2, and 10.  By using narrative analysis, the result shows that Act 8 actually teaches that, the role of the Holy Spirit is to reconcile and unite the believers who have different identities although they have been mentally separated for centuries.  The fact that, 300 years later, the residue of the conflict have resurrected and many Samaritans have killed shows that there is an unfinished task in Christianity, that is to be more sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s role and intention to make them experience conflict resolution and new social relation.

Abstract

Independent learning (Merdeka Belajar) provides challenges and opportunities for teachers to develop creativity, capacity, personality, and student needs because they become the main factor in the design of learning activities. To better understand the students as a major in independent learning, Kant's Cognitive Revolution concept of the subject. Initially, philosophers based the assumption of understanding on the reality that the subject directs himself to the object. This assumption continues until Kant proposes an argument that contradicts this assumption, namely that the object directs itself to the subject. Kant's arguments are known through the critique of pure reason, the critique of practical reason, and the critique of judgment. Kant's Copernican revolution had philosophical implications for many methodological and practical disciplines. This article aims to provide an explanation based on Kant's cooperative revolution on educational practices in Indonesia, namely Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), then whether Kant's suitcase revolution focuses on the subject (students) as a center of education and whether Kant's cooperative revolution provides a constructivist philosophical framework for the philosophy of education and in the Indonesian context, as a philosophical basis for MBKM (application in Christian education). Kant's Copernican revolution provides a philosophical framework for education (philosophy of education) that in practice the subject (student) is an autonomous subject who is free to study what is important to him, both at the elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

Abstract

Many studies on Yunus Emre, a Turkish Sufi and Jacopone da Todi, an Italian Franciscan, focus on their views of mystical love, especially concerning mystical union, however, the term ”love” that both use needs more exploration This study explores the question of whether their views of love have more similarities or differences by comparing the aspects of love, the center of love and its origin, and the end of the journey in love. Through thematic analysis, the results show that both conveyed a similar view about love, its origin, and the union with God as the destination of love. However, although they similarly view love as centered on God, their views of God show differences. Jacopone focuses on Christ as God who embraces pain and suffering, while Yunus is more apophatic in his insight into God. The finding might help the readers to appreciate various spiritual expressions in modern societies and to delve deeper into each of their core faith.
