Abstract

The crucial role of parents in providing exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, immunization, and maternal-child health significantly impacts a children's growth. This study aimed to explore the effects of breastfeeding, complementary feeding, immunization history, and maternal-child health on child growth. A quantitative descriptive-analytic study was conducted at the Pengasinan Community Health Center in Bekasi City in 2019, involving 136 mother-child pairs as participants. Data collection utilized questionnaires covering respondent characteristics, breastfeeding and complementary feeding status, basic child immunization, maternal immunization, and the medical history of both mother and child. Data analysis employed chi-square tests using SPSS version 22.0 with a confidence level of 95% and a significance level of P 0.05. Findings revealed that nearly 60% of children exhibited normal growth. Statistical analysis results indicated that exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, complete basic child immunization, and maternal immunization significantly correlated with normal child growth (p-value 0.05). The implications highlight the urgent need for broader education on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, and complete immunization for both mother and child.

Abstract

Worldwide, approximately three million infants die every year in their first month of life, and 22.3% of neonatal deaths can be prevented with Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (EIBF). Immediate breastfeeding initiation after birth is an integral part of safe delivery procedures and is widely recognized as a beneficial practice. Delayed breastfeeding initiation has been found to increase the risk of mortality among newborns. Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between birth attendants and delivery methods with EIBF at Kasih Fatimah Maternity and Children’s Hospital. Method: A descriptive-analytic approach using a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 80 samples selected through consecutive sampling. Results: The study revealed that 77 respondents (96.3%) initiated breastfeeding within <1 hour, with 62.5% of patients assisted by midwives, and 62.5% giving birth via vaginal delivery. No significant relationship was found between birth attendants and delivery methods with EIBF (p>0.05). Conclusions: Although these results demonstrate a high level of EIBF practice and no significant association with EIBF, there is potential for improvement in the implementation of EIBF procedures in the hospital.

Abstract

Mental health in older adults is shaped by physical and social environments, life experiences, and aging-related challenges like declining capacity, reduced functionality, and psychological stress. The 2019 Global Health Estimates (GHE) reports mental disorders account for 10.6% of elderly disability, with 14% of those aged 60 and over affected, primarily by depression and anxiety. Objective: This study aims to examine the differences in mental health based on age and gender among the elderly in social shelters. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the social shelter, in September-October 2023. A sample of 80 elderly individuals was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire with the DASS 21 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales) instrument. Data analysis was performed using chi-square tests. Results: Most had normal mental health: depression (43.8%), anxiety (61.2%), and stress (76.2%). Gender correlated with anxiety (p<0.001) but not depression or stress, while age showed no significant relationships. Conclusion: Most elderly in the shelter had normal mental health, with gender linked to anxiety and age unrelated to depression, anxiety, or stress. These findings emphasize the importance of considering gender factors in efforts to improve mental health among the elderly.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains a serious health issue, both in developed and developing countries. According to the World Heart Federation (WHF), global deaths due to CVD surged from 12.1 million in 1990 to 20.5 million in 2021. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported 17.9 million deaths from cardiovascular diseases in 2021. This study aims to investigate the relationship between Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) and Troponin I levels in cardiovascular disease patients at Jakarta Islamic Hospital (RSIJ) Cempaka Putih from 2021 to 2022. An analytical cross-sectional design was employed from May to August 2023 at RSIJ Cempaka Putih. Variables studied included patient characteristics, hematological laboratory tests (White Blood Cell (WBC), Red Blood Cell (RBC), Platelet (PLT), Hemoglobin, Red Cell Distribution Width-Standard Deviation (RDW-SD), Red Cell Distribution Width-Coefficient of Variation (RDW-CV), and Troponin I), and EKG examinations. The study involved 70 inpatient CVD patients at RSIJ Cempaka Putih in 2021-2022 who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed using Spearman’s Rho correlation test. The results showed no significant correlation between blood parameters (WBC, RBC, PLT, hemoglobin, RDW-SD, and RDW-CV) and troponin I levels. There was no significant correlation between blood parameters (WBC, RBC, PLT, hemoglobin, RDW-SD, and RDW-CV) with troponin I levels. Factors other than blood parameters measured in this study may play a more significant role in determining troponin I levels. Keywords: Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW), Troponin I, Cardiovascular, Hematology  ABSTRAK Penyakit kardiovaskuler masih menjadi masalah kesehatan yang serius, baik   di   negara   maju maupun berkembang. I. Kata Kunci: Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW), Troponin I, Kardiovaskuler, Hematologi
