Abstract

This research was conducted to describe the local Batak colors and their functions contained in the novel Longa by Nestor Rico Tambunan. There are two approaches used, namely a theoretical approach using the sociology of literature approach with the theory of culture studies. Then the methodological approach uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The data in this study are the forms of cultural color contained in the words, sentences, and expressions in Longa's novel which are suspected of containing story facts about the characters and traditional Batak cultural background. While the data source used in this study is the novel Longa by Nestor Rico Tambunan. The data collection method uses the heuristic method, and the analysis method uses the hermeneutic method. There are five cultural elements contained in the novel, namely 1) religious systems and religious ceremonies; 2) social systems and organizations; 3) knowledge system; 4) language; and 5) art.

Abstract

This article focuses on the study of the use of language forms in the realm of visual imagery that are built from rhetorical elements to Andi Bombang's Kun Fayakun novel using a qualitative approach through stylistic theory. The purpose of this study is to explain the visual imagery built from the rhetorical elements in Andi Bombang's Kun Fayakun novel. The rhetorical elements that are the focus of discussion in this study are figurative language or comparative types of figurative language, including metaphors, personifications, and similes. The data used are all language signs in the novel Kun Fayakun by Andi Bombang which are also useful as data sources. This study uses a semiotic method with a first-level reading technique, heuristics, for data collection and a second-level reading technique, hermeneutics, for data analysis. The results of this study show an explanation of the use of language forms in the realm of visual imagery that are built from rhetorical elements in Andi Bombang's Kun Fayakun novel. The use of visual imagery through rhetorical elements in the novel is used as an embodiment of a more real picture and an emphasis on meaning related to story events so that the reader can create concrete images.

Abstract

Statement of the problem in this research was The Representation of Prophetic Messages in Folklore of Tegal Regency . Long time ago, folklore was used as a medium of communication between parents and their children in teaching Javanese values. Here are some messages and values in every folklore delivered in communities constructed particular character building in every communities. That message has mediated social and transcedental dimensions, it is well known as prophetical ethics which enhance humanization, liberalization, and transcendence. This research was qualitative approach regarding the description. Several studies related to substance of folklore have been conducted by some researchers are Duija (2005), Martinoska (2005), Lukin (2008), Hukantaival (2012), Galieva (2015), Taylor (2003), and Malik (2018).
