Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi kapasitas pengajaran yang profe­sional mahasiswa PPL PBI UIN Alauddin Makassar yang melibatkan 4 guru pamong dan 30 mahasiswa PPL. Data dikumpulkan melalui survei online, lembar pengamatan dan dokumentasi yang dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode campuran qualitatif dan kuantitatif. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa: 1) mahasiswa PPL berpendapat bahwa seorang guru bahasa Inggris seharusnya mampu melakukan tanggung jawabnya sebagai seorang guru yang memiliki kompetensi paedagogik, profesional, sosial, dan kepribadian, 2) mahasiswa PPL cenderung menerima pebelajar mandiri, kerja berpasangan dan kerja kelompok, mengadaptasi pengajaran untuk memenuhi kebutuhan siswa sebelum praktik pembelajaran, tetapi cenderung menguranginya selama proses pembelajaran; mahasiswa PPL juga cenderung menerima pengajaran grammar secara eksplisit, koreksi kesalahan, dan pengucapan seperti penutur asli, pengetahuan teknikal, dan keterampilan interpersonal sebelum praktik mengajar dan meningkatkan proporsinya selama proses mengajar, 3) Guru pamong berpendapat bahwa maha­siswa PPL PBI UIN alauddin harus meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris, penggunaan metode pengajaran yang inovatif, penilaian autentik, dan penggu­naan media yang bervariasi.Abstract: This research aims to explore the professional teaching capacity of undergraduate English education students of UIN Alauddin Makassar. It involves 4 supervising-teachers and 30 student-teachers. The data were collected through online survey questionnaires, feedback observation sheets and documentation; analyzed quanti­tatively and qualitatively. The research finds that: 1) the student-teachers perceive an EFL teacher should be able to do their responsibilities which involves peda­gogic, professional, social, and personal competences; 2) the student-teachers have a tendency to accept learner autonomy, pair/group work, adapting teaching to cater for learner needs before the teaching-practice but tend to decrease some parts of it during the teaching-practice; the student-teachers are likely to accept explicit grammar instruction, error correction and native like pronunciation, tech­nical knowledge and interper­sonal skills before the teaching-practice and increase the proportion of them during the teaching-practice; 3) The supervising-teachers considered that the student-teachers of PBI UIN Alauddin Makassar still need to improve their English speaking ability, the use of innovative EFL teaching me­thods and authentic assessment and the use of different kind of teaching media.

Abstract

The results of this research are expected to give information about the students’ problems in mastering vocabulary and the effect on the students’speaking activity. The research design used was case study with qualitative descriptive design. It was conducted at the second semester of English Education Department at UIN Alauddin Makassar in academic year 2021. There were 5 students pointed as the participants of this research; they are from PBI-C. Theresearcher used interview guideline to collect the data. The data were analyzed using content analysis such as data condensation, data display, conclusion drawing and verification. The result of this research showed that the students nearly had similar problems in mastering vocabulary. They found it difficult to understand the meaning of vocabulary because there were some of them that have similar sound one another. Furthermore, the particular rules and types of nounmade the students confused when putting them into sentences while speaking. They often misplaced and got wrong grammar when they spoke. The students also have problems when they talked to somebody. They often produced incorrect pronunciation of the vocabulary. Therefore, they occasionally repeated the mispronunciation vocabulary. The problems they faced affected their speaking activity. Four of five students confessed that those problems become obstacle on their speaking ability because it could make them feeling insecure, less of confidence, trying to end the conversation, or change the topic immediately. Besides, one of the participants assumed that we should not think too much about mistakes when we spoke because the most important thing in communicating to people is that we can understand each other of what we wanted to convey.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop HOTS items in the English material, to determine the level of validity of the items, to determine the reliability of the items for class X in MA Madani Alauddin Pao-Pao. The type of this research is research and development (R&D). The development model used is this research is the Plomp modelwhich consists of five stages of development, namely Preliminary investigation, Design, Realization/Construction, Test, Evaluation and Revision (Test, Evaluation and Revision), and Implementation (Implementation). The subjects in this study are students at class X MIA 2 in MA Madani Alauddin Pao-Pao. The instruments used in data collectionare validation sheets and HOTS items. Based on the results of the study, it is obtained that the level ofvalidity of the HOTS items was 3.7 which is in the very valid category, the reliability of the HOTS items is 0.81 which is in very good category and thedifficulty level of the HOTS items is 0.60 which is in the medium category. The implications of the developing HOTS items can train and encourage students to do high-level reasoning so that they are not fixated on the pattern of answers that result from the memorization process without knowing the concept of knowledge, and it can make students thinkcritically in doing the test. So that the answers can be produced based on in-depth reasoning from the questions for each item, namely 100 multiplechoice questions and 50 essay questions.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the ability of speaking skill in form of debating based on the fluency and accuracy rate capability. The study was designed in the form of qualitative descriptive study. The subjects in this research were six third semester students of English Education Department. The data were collected by using the methods of observation. Data were analyzed through fluency accuracy data, accuracy mesurement rubric and autenthic debate assessment rubric.       The result indicated that (1) the ability of students’ at the third semester in conducting the debate still in the low level, as the fact that the frequency of stutters was significantly high and the tension attempted were quite visible and audible; (2) the outcome result of the rate of accuracy of the third semester students of English Education Depertment in conducting a debate was still low. The fact was gained by the actual fact in the field during the observation where pronunciation errors and basic grammar mistakes were still spotted in several places; (3) the debate ability of the third semester students of English Education was still low and need a further guide and developementBased on these findings, it can be concluded that the overall capability of students’ in conducting the debate was still unsatisfying. And as a suggestion that a  three-stages structured debate forum club empowerment among students was highly recomended as a form of concern to enhance the intereset as well as the ability of the students to perform a public-speaking skill such as debating.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the of competencies of teachers in MA Madani Alauddin, Pao-Pao, which is only split into pedagogical and professional competence. The design of this research was qualitative descriptive. This research had two teachers as the subject.The data were collected through observation and interview. The researcher conducted a straight observation in the teaching and learning process of both teachers. In the classroom, the researcher matched what the teacher did with what observation list contained. Meanwhile, on this point, there are two types of interview, structured interview and unstructured interview. Structured interview was given to ask what teachers used to do in the classroom, in short, what they comprehend about professional and pedagogical competence. Unstructured interview was conducted by setting some students into the researcher talk in daily. Thus, it could fix about what the teacher did through the observation and their information with the students opinion. Furthermore, first, the pedagogical competence through the data gained between both teachers was in the deeply different level. One teacher, female, was not a favorite teacher due to her teaching style. It was gained through some interviews with students which was reverse to what the teacher displayed. While other teacher, male, was the favorite teacher due to the contrary to what the  previous teacher did. Overall, it was found that commonly students demanded the teacher extremely focused on what the students need like games which used to be forgotten by the teacher. As a whole they had been claimed as a professional teacher because they significantly concerned with things such as the mastery of material, the use of technology, and the professional continuity.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze Reading material in English textbook “English Way 2” for Junior highschool student. Reading is one of the most important skill in  learning english, because with reading skill we can learn english from written materials such as textbook. Reading materials is source that used for teaching reading, the materials must be appropriate with level of student, not only the level of reading text,  genre of the text and content of lexical density of the text must be appropriate to.The research method of this research was qualitative descriptive, for specific this research is library research or content analysis research. The data of this research collected form reading text in “English Way 2” textbook. There are 8 reading text collected from the book. Having analyzed the data of this research, this book contain 3 genres of the text such as descriptive, recount, and narrative. There are 2 descriptive text, 5 recount text, and 1 narrative text. The genre itself is appropriate with syllabus English Learning KTSP 2006 for 8th grade student junior high school. The level of lexical density of reading text in “English Way 2” textbook for grade 8th is around 40% - 50% lower lexical density, it means the text or reading materials from the book is easy to understand, and also the reading materials is suitable for student as a main or sub materials for reading.

Abstract

The research problems of this research, what were the strategies of English teacher in teaching reading comprehension at the Second Grade of Junior High School 1 of Wonomulyo and how the implement of English teacher’ strategies in teaching reading comprehension at the Second Grade of Junior High School 1 of Wonomulyo? The method of this research was qualitative reseacrh. The subject of this research was English teacher in Junior High School 1 of Wonomulyo. The instrument of this research were observation ceklist and interview. The result of the research found that two strategies that the teacher used, Scaffolding and QARs ( Question Answer Relationship). Scaffolding strategy student can develop about idea which readable by the student. QARs ( Question Answer Relationship), the teacher able to know how far their students understand what the teacher has given to them. And the teacher able to know how far understanding of the student doing the task after read the text that has been given and the students guided to more focus on the text and understand what the content of the text.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop Signs and Songs Materials based on 2013 curriculum for the Seventh Grade Student at MTsN. BalangBalang, Gowa. It was Research and Development (R&D) applied ADDIE model standing for Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. The procedures were; 1) analyzing materials needed by students; 2)designing the blueprint; 3) developing the materials through the syllabus of 2013 Curriculum; 4) implementing the product (try-out product); and 5) evaluating the product. The product was tried out to the seventh grade students at MTsN Balang-balang. Type of data obtained in this study was qualitative. The instruments used in this study were questionnaire and rubrics for teacher and expert. Then, the teacher and expert were involved in order to validate the product. They validated three systematic aspects of the product, namely; the organization of the Materials, English Teaching strategies or method, and the content of the materials. Finally, based on the teacher and expert judgment as well as try-out design result, it was found that the developed materials were applicable to be taught for the Seventh Grade of Junior High School as additional learning and teaching materials which help both students and teachers in learning process based on 2013 Curriculum.Keywords: Developing teaching material, signs and songs, the 2013Curriculum

Abstract

Belajar bahasa tidak dapat dipisahkan dari belajar budaya. Tulisan ini memuat tentang orientasi budaya dalam kuriku-lum pengajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing di Indonesia, khususnya di tingkat sekolah menengah. Nilai budaya dalam EFL dianggap penting, khususnya bagi pelajar Indonesia, karena bahasa tersebut tidak hanya sebagai mata pelajaran yang harus dikuasai, tetapi juga sebagai refleksi budaya dari sebuah masyarakat di mana bahasa tersebut digunakan. Sejauh ini para pelajar memahami bahwa dengan belajar bahasa Inggris mereka akan dapat berkomunikasi dengan masyarakat dunia. Namun, mereka kurang menyadari bahwa ada alasan yang tidak kalah pentingnya dari hanya sekedar dapat ber-komunikasi, yaitu untuk mengurangi kesalahpahaman yang mungkin terjadi akibat minimnya pengetahuan tentang budaya lawan bicara.
