Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: According to research, as many as 20-75% of Candida albicans in the general population become Candida carriers or asymptomatic. Candida albicans in pathogenic conditions becomes the primary causative agent of oral candidiasis. The most common treatment for oral candidiasis is the use of antifungal drugs such as fluconazole and nystatin. Long-term and extensive use of conventional antifungals leads to increased resistance, so the search for alternative medicinal agents with lower toxicity, such as cinnamon. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) contains flavonoid chemical compounds that have the potential as natural antifungal agents against Candida albicans. Objective: To analyze antifungal potency of cinnamon extract against Candida albicans fungus that causes oral candidiasis. Methods: Analyzed eight (8) journals from the database like PubMed, Google Scholar, and NCBI. The study analyzed theantifungal potential of cinnamon against Candida albicans fungus that causes oral candidiasis. Conclusion: Cinnamon has potential as antifungal agents against Candida albicans with cinnamaldehyde from the flavonoid group as the most active chemical compound. The minimum concentration of cinnamon can produce a large enough zone of inhibition against Candida albicans. Cinnamon as an herbal ingredient also has side effects, so the safety of this natural antifungal agent remains to be considered.

Abstract

Dental and oral health is an important indicator to determine overall body health. Dental and oral health can affect the health of a person's body so efforts are needed to maintain good dental and oral health. This problem will result in the metabolic activity of bacteria and plaque which causes tooth decay, in the long term it will cause tooth loss and will eventually cause masticatory function disorders. Dental Alumni Association, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Prof. Dr. Moestopo (Beragama) Jakarta has the idea to carry out social service activities with the aim of participating in the success of government programs, especially the Ministry of Health to create caries free Indonesian society at the age of 12 which is targeted for 2030. Social service activities are carried out at SDN 1 and SMPN 1 Sembalun, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara with a target of 200 elementary school students and 207 junior high school students. Abstract

Dental health education for children aims to introduce them to the world of dental health and address issues related to teeth. One of the recommended method is through video viewing, which can captivate children's attention, particularly when animated videos are used. This study analyzes the effectiveness of video viewing in improving target knowledge and compares it with other methods. This research involved analyzing national and international books and journals that explore the use of videos as a teaching tool for dental health education among elementary school-age children. Results show videos are highly effective in enhancing children's knowledge of proper teeth brushing. They outperform other methods such as flip charts, leaflets, and posters. When compared to alternative educational methods, videos are almost as effective as hand puppets. However, flip charts, leaflets, and posters remain viable options for dental and oral health education among elementary school children, as they have proven to be effective.

Abstract

In dentistry, we can correct malocclusion and malposition by moving the teeth with orthodontic treatment. After the orthodontic treatment is done there’ll still be a possibility of relapse. Relapse is when the teeth return to their original position before the orthodontic treatment was done. The prevalence of relapse after orthodontic treatment is still quite high. Relapse prevention can be achieved through the use of mechanical devices but, they have some limitations. Natural materials can be used as an alternative as the prevention method that can prevent the relapse from happening. Roselle extract contains chemical compounds that have the potential to prevent relapse after the orthodontic treatment is done. To observe the potential of chemical compounds in roselle flower extract as a relapse prevention method after orthodontic treatment. This research was a laboratory experiment. The research phase began with the extraction of rosella flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn), then continued with the second stage, namely the phytochemical screening of rosella flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn) using the color reaction method. The phytochemical tests showed that the roselle flower extract contains chemical compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. Conclusion: The roselle flower extract contains chemical compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, making it potentially effective in preventing relapse after orthodontic treatment.
