Abstract

Panji’s literary works in Java became a form of sign or pasemon in Javanese culture. Many of the narratives in Panji’s texts relate to Javanese traditional historiography. This research will focus on the story about Putri Wandhan in the Panji Jayalengkara Angreni text and the Babad texts. This study uses a comparative literary method and considers that Putri Wandhan’s narrative in the Panji Jayalengkara Angreni text contains a collective memory of history in the past. The emergence of the narrative about Putri Wandhan in Panji Jayalengkara Angreni and other Javanese literature is due to the contact of the Javanese and East Indonesian people in the past. In this study it was found that the story of Putri Wandhan describes the efforts of Javanese poets in the past to show the superiority of the Javanese kingdoms. In addition, this story is also a pasemon of the political life of the kingdoms in Java in the past. The story of the concubine from Wandhan in Panji Jayalengkara Angreni is an attempt to describe the superiority of the Javanese kings and an effort to honor their ancestors.

Abstract

Sekar ageng or kawi miring is one of the type of Javanese chanted poetry that was arose in the Surakarta-Yogyakarta literature era. This type of poetry is a continuation of the kakawin tradition of Old Javanese literature. However, there is a dark gulf between the emergence of the sekar ageng and the end of the kakawin tradition in Java. This study seeks to reveal the relationship between kakawin and sekar ageng and the transformation of kakawin's poetry prosody into sekar ageng. This study adheres to structuralism which departs from the linguistic aspect. Because this study examines the metre of the poetry that should be chanted, in addition to the linguistic element, it is also associated with the musical element. From this research, it can be seen that sekar ageng was well known in the era of Mataram Islam and was a continuation of the kakawin tradition. The pedhotan element is closely related to the location of the kakawin long syllables. Kakawin syllables are crystallized in musical aspect and syllabic-melismatic syllables in sekar ageng. In terms of sasmitaning tembang, sekar ageng is influenced by the kakawin tradition as well as macapat. === Sekar ageng atau kawi miring adalah salah satu jenis puisi Jawa bertembang yang yang hidup di era kesusastraan Surakarta-Yogyakarta. Jenis puisi ini merupakan kelanjutan tradisi kakawin dari kesusastraan Jawa Kuna. Walau begitu, ada suatu jurang gelap antara kemunculan sekar ageng dan akhir tradisi kakawin di Jawa. Penelitian ini berusaha mengungkapkan hubunganantara kakawin dan sekar ageng serta transformasi prosodi puisi kakawin menjadi sekar ageng. Penelitian ini berpegang pada strukturalisme yang bertolak dari aspek kebahasaan. Oleh sebab penelitian ini mengkaji metrum puisi yang bertembang, maka selain unsur kebahasaan juga mengkaitkan dengan unsur musikalnya. Dari penelitian ini dapat diketahui bahwa sekar ageng sudah dikenal di era Mataram Islam dan merupakan kelanjutan tradisi kakawin. Unsur pedhotan terkait erat dengan letak suku kata panjang kakawin. Panjang-pendek suku kata kakawin terkristalisasi dalam unsur seni suara dan suku kata silabismelismatis yang ada dalam sekar ageng. Dari segi sasmitaning tembang, sekar ageng dipengaruhi tradisi kakawin juga macapat.

Abstract

Kakawin Lambaᶇ Pralambaᶇ is one of the lyric poetry texts contained in the palm leaf manuscript coded CP.25 LT-223 which is stored in the manuscript collection of Universitas Indonesia. The manuscript was written in 1799 AD in Lombok using Balinese script. This study aims to reveal the form of yoga sastra and the relationship of religious expression in Kakawin Lambaᶇ Pralambaᶇ with other Old Javanese and Balinese literature. This research is qualitative research using a reception approach. To prepare the object of research, a philological work step was used to extract the Kakawin Lambaᶇ Pralambaᶇ text from the manuscript. The codex unicus method was used because only one witness manuscript is known to contain this text. The Kakawin Lambaᶇ Pralambaᶇ shows the wandering of the poet to do literary yoga (aesthetics-yoga). In addition, there is also the concept of worship in the form of caṇḍi pustaka as a kind of metaphorical expression of the writer to pay homage to the God. This Kakawin also contains an overview of religious concepts related to the love of men and women. In addition, this text is also related to efforts to achieve the unity between human and God. === Kakawin Lambaᶇ Pralambaᶇ merupakan salah satu teks puisi lirik yang terdapat dalam naskah lontar berkode CP.25 LT-223 yang disimpan dalam koleksi naskah Universitas Indonesia. Naskah tersebut ditulis pada tahun 1799 Masehi di Lombok menggunakan aksara Bali. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap bentuk yoga sastra dan kaitan espresi religius dalam Kakawin Lambaᶇ Pralambaᶇ dengan karya sastra Jawa Kuna dan Bali lainnya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif menggunakan pendekatan resepsi. Untuk mempersiapkan objek penelitian digunakan Langkah kerja filologi untuk mengekstrak teks Kakawin Lambaᶇ Pralambaᶇ dari naskah. Metode naskah tunggal digunakan sebab hanya ada satu naskah saksi yang diketahui mengandung teks ini. Dalam teks Kakawin Lambaᶇ Pralambaᶇ memperlihatkan pengelanaan pujangga dalam usaha melakukan yoga sastra (yoga-estetis). Selain itu, terdapat pula konsep pemujaan dalam bentuk caṇḍi pustaka sebagai suatu ekspresi metaforis sang pujangga untuk menyembah (manembah) Tuhan. Kakawin ini juga memuat gambaran konsep religius terkait percintaan laki-laki dan perempuan. Selain itu, teks ini juga terkait dengan upaya untuk mencapai penyatuan manusia dengan Tuhan.

Abstract

Dalem Kadipaten Ngabeyan or also known as Dalem Sasana Mulya is one of the royal residences from Surakarta Kingdom, located in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. Dalem Kadipaten Ngabeyan have an important position in Javanese court dance history as a dance laboratory during 19th century. This research tries to understanding Bedhaya-Srimpi Kadipaten Ngabeyan as a part of court dance tradition in Surakarta and also to understanding Dalem Kadipaten Ngabeyan context. This research tries to integrate historiography method with ethno-philology approach, which try to understanding past culture by text. Bedhaya and Srimpi dance that created in Dalem Kadipaten Ngabeyan cannot be separated with Dutch Colonial context in Java during 19th century. The dance itself represent how Surakarta facing cultural trauma caused by long series of war and internal intrigue. In another hand, many dances from Dalem Kadipaten Ngabeyan represent romantic atmosphere and romanticism of Mataram-Surakarta golden era.

Abstract

Bedhaya Gandrungmanis is one of the Bedhaya dance which was created in the 19th century during Pakubuwana VIII's reign in Keraton Surakarta. This dance narrates Panji Jayakusuma's text, which symbolizes political chaos in 19th century Keraton Surakarta. The dance itself could represent how Panji roman used by Keraton Surakarta to construct the idea of Javanese kingship. This research tries to put forward an understanding of Bedhaya Gandrungmanis, which had been fragmented and lost, based on manuscripts and oral tradition. This research uses an ethno-philological method, which integrates philological research in anthropological perspectives. Data collecting technique includes collecting philological data on manuscript research in Keraton Surakarta Library, Universitas Indonesia Library, and Pura Mangkunegaran Library, and also collecting ethnographic data by interview, field research, and observation. The earliest version of Bedhaya Gandrungmanis was interpreted as a symbol of royal succession. In the last version of the 20th century, Bedhaya Gandrungmanis was re-interpreted in more romantic terms and lost its political resonance. The Panji story in this dance comes from the Panji Jayakusuma story that formed by Pakubuwana VIII to symbolize cultural change in the 19th century during the Dutch Colonial era. Its meaning had been shifted and fragmented as a result of these cultural changes.

Abstract

Gender and sexual orientation diversity existed in many societies around the world and has been recognized in Javanese literature for a long time. This study aims to present a new perspective on understanding LGBTQ+ content in Javanese literature. This research uses comparative literature method with a lesbian-gay criticism approach. The texts that were compared in this research include Ślokāntara, Wṛhaspati Tattwa, Kuṭaramānawa, Wirāṭaparwwa, Sĕrat Cĕnthini, Pakĕm Ringgit Gĕdhog, Panji Jayakusuma, Panji Kuda Narawangsa, Panji Bĕdhah Bali, and Panji Murtasmara.. From the texts that were compared, various forms of gender diversity, sexual orientation, and narratives about same-sex love were found. LGBTQ+ elements show the relationship between the existence of masculine and feminine elements in one body. LGBTQ+ in Javanese literature is seen as a deficiency that is inherent in humans. Even so, LGBTQ+ is a condition that has been destined by God. In certain matters, such as the existence of neutral gender in Javanese-Balinese literature, it cannot be separated from the religious-mystical aspect. === Keragaman gender dan orientasi seksual merupakan salah satu bagian dari kehidupan masyarakat di seluruh  dunia dan telah sejak lama dikenal dalam kesusastraan Jawa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengemukakan sudut pandang baru dalam memahami muatan LGBTQ+ di dalam karya sastra Jawa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu menggunakan sastra bandingan dengan pendekatan kritik sastra lesbian-gay. Teks yang dibandingkan meliputi Ślokāntara, Wṛhaspati Tattwa, Kuṭaramānawa, Wirāṭaparwwa, Sĕrat Cĕnthini, Pakĕm Ringgit Gĕdhog, Panji Jayakusuma, Panji Kuda Narawangsa, Panji Bĕdhah Bali, dan Panji Murtasmara. Dari teks-teks yang dibandingkan, terdapat berbagai bentuk keragaman gender, orientasi seksual, dan narasi tentang cinta sesama jenis. Unsur-unsur LGBTQ+ memperlihatkan relasi keberadaan unsur maskulin dan feminin dalam satu tubuh. LGBTQ+ dalam karya sastra Jawa dipandang sebagai suatu kekurangan yang melekat pada manusia, tetapi juga dipandang sebagai takdir. Dalam hal tertentu seperti keberadaan gender netral dalam kesusastraan Jawa-Bali tidak dapat dilepaskan dari aspek religius-mistik.
