Abstract

The practice of qiyamul lail has become an integral part of Islamic religious culture. Many studies have been conducted on spiritual intelligence and mental health. Still, the specific contribution of qiyamul lail to the development of spiritual intelligence and mental health of students in Islamic boarding schools has not been explicitly researched. The research aimed to analyze efforts to increase the spiritual intelligence of students through qiyamul lail by going beyond physical limitations. The study used a quantitative approach involving participants 10% of the population, namely around 33 participants consisting of Islamic boarding school students and female students. Data was collected through a questionnaire that assessed the frequency of practiced qiyamul lail and measured the level of spiritual intelligence using tested instruments. The F value calculated following data analysis is 11.717 at a significance value of 0.002 < 0.05. Then, Ho is rejected, and Ha is accepted. Apart from that, among students who study at the Muhammadiyah Ki Bagus Hadikusumo Islamic Boarding School, there is quite a high influence between the Qiyamul Lail variable (X) and the Spiritual Intelligence Variable (Y). The coefficient of determination (R square) was 0.274, and the correlation value (R) was 0.524, indicating an influence of 27.4% of the Qiyamul Lail variable on the Spiritual Intelligence variable. The research found that the more often students perform qiyamul lail, the higher their spiritual intelligence development. In addition, linear regression analysis showed the implementation of qiyamul lail contributes 27.4% to the variation in the development of spiritual intelligence of Islamic boarding school students.

Abstract

Abstract

Determination of the globalization era is marked by Society Era 5.0 as the result of Industrial Revolution 4.0. One of the impacted elements of this is education institutions. The presence of technology is somewhat at its peak of rapid development and thus demands the education institution to adapt to the digitalization including islamic education. Therefore, a right solution to face Society Era 5.0 is required. Society living in this era is highlighted by those who mastered science and technology. Method applied in this research is library research with a qualitative approach. According to observation results, there are some problems found that actually lead to opportunities and challenges in Islamic Education. The opportunity is improving the quality of human resources for the educators. Moreover, Society Era 5.0 can be a marketing media to the development of Islamic Institution. It will also provide space for revitalization towards the modernism paradigm as well as optimalizatin on institution fundings. Besides the opportunities, there will be challenges such as the awareness of most islamic educators on science and technology, optimization of teacher standards, efforts in initiating nondicotomic paradigm and also determining strategies used to push Islamic Education as the primary center of science and technology.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at the junior secondary level (SMP/MTs) continues to face challenges related to student engagement and the relevance of learning to students’ everyday experiences. Many studies indicate that IRE instruction is still dominated by conventional approaches that emphasize content delivery, leaving limited space for reflection and value internalization. In response to these challenges, meaningful learning has been discussed as an approach that connects religious knowledge with students’ lived realities. This study presents a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA 2020 framework to examine empirical research on the implementation of meaningful learning in Islamic Religious Education at the SMP/MTs level. Articles published between 2014 and 2024 were collected from several academic databases, including Google Scholar, Springer Nature Link, JSTOR, DOAJ, Taylor & Francis, and Brill. Through a staged screening process, ten empirical studies were selected for final analysis. The findings show that meaningful learning in IRE is commonly implemented through contextual and student-centered strategies, such as Contextual Teaching and Learning, Problem-Based Learning, project-based activities, cooperative learning, and reflective practices. These approaches are associated with increased student engagement, deeper understanding of religious concepts, and stronger opportunities for value internalization. However, most studies focus on short-term outcomes and provide limited discussion of assessment and long-term impacts. This review highlights the need to position meaningful learning as a reflective and context-sensitive pedagogical approach in Islamic Religious Education.
