Abstract

This thesis aimed at finding out what vocabulary learning strategies do fourth semester studentsof English Education program at University of Gunung Rinjani (UGR) use and how do studentscorrelation between second language learning motivation and vocabulary learning strategy use.This is qualitative research. The sample of this research was the fourth semester of UGR, in thisresearch the researcher took 10 students as samples.. To collect the data, the writer applied theclose interview. After collecting and calculating the data, the researcher found out that thestudents use mainly the same strategies, but there are some interesting exceptions. Somestudents mention using several different strategies but most use only a few of the most popularstrategies and have not altered the strategies when they have matured or advanced with theirlanguage studies. The advanced technology is becoming a meaningful part of vocabularylearning and second language learners have taken the initiative to use the possibilities providedby the technological innovations in order to develop their language skills, so in addition, usingtranslation was clearly a popular strategy even though there were some different methods ofusing it. And Students who have been successful in their language studies describe theirmotivation being high and they also employ a wider range of vocabulary strategies than theirless motivated and less successful peers even though there can be some exceptions andindividual differences.So this research suggested that Therefore lecturers should enhance themeaning of learning strategies and offer the opportunity to get to know and try out the differentstrategies in campus so that each learner can find the best strategies for them. Furthermore, asthe results of the present study imply, students feel that campus is the place for providinginformation on learning strategies so that everyone could have access to that information.Naturally, lecturers would be the ones to offer that information.Key words: Vocabulary, Learning Strategy,and Motivation.

Abstract

Sasak is the name of a tribe that inhabits the island of Lombok and uses the Sasak language asthe first language and as an everyday language. This research specifically discusses genderrelations in communicating between husband and wife using Sasak language. The method usedin this research is a descriptive qualitative approach. The data analyzed are descriptive data inthe form of written words that require interpretation because this research is related to languageand gender. In taking the sample, the author took several responses from several wives andhusbands. From his responses, he identifies and classifies each according to the technique heuses. The results of this study indicate that the form of conversation pattern classification inSasak clearly shows gender inequality. Gender inequality is shown based on the choice ofvocabulary, interactional control, and syntactic structure which indirectly shows the variousstigma of thinking that suppresses or is suppressed by dominant forces in society. Completingthe study, the writer suggests the next research in order to do similar study but with morecompleted data by relating to the role of gender in sasak language comunication used dialect.Key words: Gender, Culture, Environmental Education, Discourse AnalysisSasak adalah nama suku yang mendiami pulau Lombok dan menggunakan bahasa Sasaksebagai bahasa pertama dan sebagai bahasa sehari-hari. Penelitian ini secara khususmembahas hubungan gender dalam berkomunikasi antara suami dan istri menggunakanbahasa Sasak. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatifdeskriptif. Data yang dianalisis adalah data deskriptif dalam bentuk kata-kata tertulis yangmembutuhkan interpretasi karena penelitian ini berkaitan dengan bahasa dan gender. Dalammengambil sampel, penulis mengambil beberapa tanggapan dari beberapa istri dan suami. Daritanggapan, ia mengidentifikasi dan mengklasifikasikan masing-masing sesuai dengan teknikyang ia gunakan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bentuk klasifikasi pola percakapandalam bahasa Sasak jelas menunjukkan ketidaksetaraan gender. Ketidakadilan genderditunjukkan berdasarkan pilihan kosa kata, kontrol interaksional, dan struktur sintaksis yangsecara tidak langsung menunjukkan berbagai stigma berpikir yang menekan atau ditekan olehkekuatan dominan di masyarakat. Menyelesaikan penelitian, penulis menyarankan penelitianberikutnya untuk melakukan penelitian serupa tetapi dengan data yang lebih lengkap denganberkaitan dengan peran gender dalam komunikasi bahasa sasak menggunakan dialek.Kata kunci: Gender, Budaya, Pendidikan Lingkungan, Analisis Wacana.

Abstract

Kosakata sebagai elemen atau komponen bahasa Inggris sangat penting untuk dipelajaridengan baik, karena ini adalah gerbang dan dasar untuk memahami frasa dan kalimat dalambahasa Inggris. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis tertarik dengan flashcard sebagai salah satu mediadalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris khususnya kosakata. Penelitian ini difokuskan untuk mencaritahu tentang penggunaan flashcard sebagai media pengajaran kosa kata bahasa Inggriskepada siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatifdeskriptif. Data yang dianalisis adalah data deskriptif berupa kata-kata tertulis yangmembutuhkan interpretasi karena penelitian ini membahas efektifitas pengajaran kosa katabahasa Inggris menggunakan Flashcard. Dalam pengambilan sampel, penulis mengambilbeberapa tanggapan dari para siswa. Dari tanggapan, ia mengidentifikasi danmengklasifikasikan masing-masing sesuai dengan fungsi media pembelajaran visual yangmencerminkan. Berdasarkan klasifikasi ini dia membuat analisis. Hasil dari penelitian inimenunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran visual merupakan alat yang sangat berguna dalamproses belajar mengajar, karena menggunakan media pembelajaran merangsang aktivitassiswa dan mampu memahami subjek yang diajarkan dalam komunikasi yang lebih efektif danefisien. Menyelesaikan studi, penulis menyarankan guru harus meningkatkan makna mengajardan menawarkan kesempatan untuk mengenal dan mencoba strategi yang berbeda di sekolahsehingga setiap siswa dapat menemukan strategi terbaik untuk mereka.Kata kunci: Mengajar, Kosakata, Flashcard.Vocabulary as an English element or component is very important to be learned well, because itis the gate and basis to understand phrases and sentences in English. In this study, the writer isinterested in flashcard as one of the media in teaching English especially vocabulary. This studyis focused on finding out about the use of flashcard as a medium of teaching English vocabularyto students. The method which is applied in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach.The data being analyzed are descriptive data in form of written words which need interpretationbecause this study deals with the effectiveness of teaching English vocabulary using Flashcard.In taking the sample, the writer takes several responses from the students. From the responses,he identified and classified each of them according to the function of visual learning media thatreflect. Based on this classification he made the analysis. The result of this study shows that thevisual learning media was a very useful tool in the teaching and learning process, because ofusing learning media stimulated student activity and able to understand the subject being taughtin a more effective and efficient communication. Completing the study, the writer suggeststeachers should enhance the meaning of teaching and offer the opportunity to get to know andtry out the different strategies in school so that each student can find the best strategies forthem.Key words: Teaching, Vocabulary, Flashcard.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are: 1) to know the factors that cause the students adopting the romance, 2) to know the influence of romance toward teaching and learning process. The subjects of this research is the third semester students of Gunung Rinjani University in Academic Year 2017/2018. This research used qualitative approach, with the data were in the form of interviews result of respondents after conducting observation. To collect the data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s model of analysis that consisting of data reduction, data display and conclusion.Data analysis shows that: 1) factors causing the students to adopt the romance: internal factors consisting of the lake provision of religious understanding, uncontrolled lust, catching personal problems and faulty solution, puberty fluctuation, and the external factors consist of poor environment and bad friends, 2) the influence of romance in the psychological side of students; positive influence (learn to socialize, learn the characteristics of various people, students became diligently to come to school and more motivate to study if in good relation with their partner) and negative influence (tend to be a fragile person and lower the concentration if in fight with their partner). So, the researcher conclude that romance indirectly influence teaching and learning process. Therefore the researcher suggest that students should more focus on education to achieve the brilliant future and delay the romance activities until their psychological mature enough to accept all of the consequences of romance, so that undesireable things can be minimized.Key Words: teenager students, romance, psychologycal, teaching and learning process.Peneliti mengadakan penelitian yang bertujuan: 1) untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan siswa melakukan aktivitas percintaan, 2) untuk mengetahui pengaruh percintaan terhadap proses belajar mengajar. Subyek penelitian ini yaitu siswa semester ke tiga Universitas Gunung Rinjani Tahun Akademik 2017/2018. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dimana data tersebut berupa hasil wawancara yang diperoleh peneliti terhadap beberapa responden setelah melakukan observasi. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan model analisis data Miles and Huberman yang terdiri dari reduksi data, presentasi data dan kesimpulan. Analisis data menunjukkan bahwa: 1) faktor yang menyebabkan pelajar melakukan hubungan percintaan yaitu: faktor internal terdiri dari lemahnya pembekalan dan pemahaman tentang agama, kelabilan masa remaja, dan faktor eksternal terdiri dari lingkungan dan teman yang buruk. 2) pengaruh percintaan terhadap psikologis pelajar: pengaruh positif (belajar bersosialisasi, belajar mengenal berbagai macam karakteristik orang, lebih rajin dan lebih termotivasi dalam hal belajar jika hubungan dengan pasangannya baik-baik saja), pengaruh negatif (cenderung menjadi pribadi yang rapuh dan menurunkan konsentrasi jika sedang bermasalah dengan pasangan). Jadi, secara tidak langsung percintaan sangat berpengaruh terhadap proses belajar mengajar. Oleh karena itu peneliti menyarankan agar pelajar lebih fokus terhadap pendidikan untuk menggapai masa depan yang gemilang dan menunda bercinta-cintaan sampai mental dan psikologis mereka cukup matang untuk menerima segala konsekuensi dari percintaan tersebut untuk meminimalisir segala sesuatu yang tidak dinginkan.Kata Kunci: siswa remaja, percintaan, psikologis, proses belajar mengajar.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: 1) untuk menganalisis nilai-nilai pendidikan yang ditemukan di filmseri animasi Upin dan Ipin yang bertema Ramadhan, dan 2) untuk mengetahui manfaat darimenonton film seri animasi Upin dan Ipin film yang bertema Ramadhan. Bentuk penelitian ini adalahdeskriptif kualitatif dan penelitian perpustakaan. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa dialog yangmengandung nilai-nilai yang diucapkan oleh karakter dalam film seri animasi Upin dan Ipin yangbertema Ramadhan. Data diambil dari skenario dari fim seri animasi Upin dan Ipin. Untukmengumpulkan data yang diperlukan, tehnik yang digunakan adalah observasi dan dokumentasi.Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis melalui beberapa langkah: 1) menafsirkan data yangditemukan dalam dialog, 2) menganalisis dialog dan mengklasifikasikan mereka sesuai dengankategori berdasarkan nilai pendidikan, 3) memverifikasi dialog dengan teori terkait dalam penelitianini, dan 4 ) memberikan kesimpulan tentang nilai-nilai pendidikan yang ditemukan dalam film.Analisis data menunjukkan bahwa ada 12 nilai pendidikan dalam film animasi ini. Nilai-nilaipendidikan tersebut adalah: kejujuran, berani, perdamaian, percaya diri, disiplin, kemurnian,kesetiaan, rasa hormat, cinta dan kasih sayang, tidak mementingkan diri sendiri, baik dan ramah,adil dan humanis. Selanjutnya, peneliti menemukan ada tiga keuntungan utama dari menonton Upindan Ipin film animasi; keuntungan tersebut adalah: 1) media hiburan, 2) sumber inspirasi, dan 3)media pendidikan.Kata kunci: Sastra, Nilai Pendidikan, Film Animasi, Upin dan Ipin.The purposes of this research are: 1) to analyze the educational values found in Upin and Ipinanimated movie on Ramadan themed series, and 2) to know the benefits of watching Upin and Ipinanimated movie on Ramadan themed series. The research design of this research is descriptivequalitative and library research. In this research the data were in the form of dialogues containingvalues presented by the characters in Upin and Ipin animated movie which focused on Ramadanthemed series. The data were taken from screenplay of the Upin and Ipin animated movie. To collectthe data needed, observation and documentation techniques were used. The collected data werethen analyzed through some steps: 1) interpreting the data found in the dialogues, 2) analyzing thedialogues and classifying them according to categories based on educational value, 3) verifying thedialogues with related theory in this research, and 4) giving the conclusion about the educationalvalues found in the movie. Data analysis shows that there are 12 educational values in this animatedmovie. Those 12 educational values are: honesty, brave, peace, confident, discipline, purity, loyalty,respect, love and affection, unselfish, kind and friendly, fair and humanist. Furthermore, theresearcher finds there are three major advantages of watching Upin and Ipin animated movie; theyare: 1) medium of entertainment, 2) source of inspiration, and 3) medium of education.Keywords: Literature, Educational Value, Animated Movie, Upin and Ipin.

Abstract

Several studies on English Literature have been conducted by few students of theEnglish Education Program. In this study the writer tries to analyze Hemingway’s ForWhom the Bell Tolls (1940) with philosophical approach. In this approach the novel isbelieved to have philosophical values. Further, for the novel seems to havephilosophical values similar to ones of existentialism, the writer tries to find outwhether it really has spirit of existentialism. The method which is applied in thisresearch is a descriptive qualitative approach. The data being analyzed aredescriptive data in form of written words which need interpretation because this studydeals with philosophical approach in For Whom the Bell Tolls. The result of this studyshows that a true man must accomplish his task and he should not hope anything forhimself. Even though in a defeat, he still can make the most of his life by committingsome worthwhile acts for him and others too. And the novel has the spirit ofexistentialism as shows by the main character and the themes. Completing the study,the writer suggests the readers and the students English Education Program of IKIPMataram; study the biography of the author and socio-cultural background of the novelbefore studying it; study the novel with the emphasis on other aspect; and loveliterature.Key Words: Intrinsic Aspects, Existentialism, Spirit.Beberapa penelitian di Sastra Inggris telah dilakukan oleh beberapa mahasiswaProgram Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Dalam penelitian ini penulis mencoba untukmenganalisis novel Hemingway yang berjudul For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940) denganpendekatan filosofis. Dalam pendekatan ini, diyakini novel ini memiliki nilai-nilaifilosofis. Selanjutnya, novel ini tampaknya memiliki nilai filosofis mirip dengan yangeksistensialisme, penulis mencoba untuk mencari tahu apakah benar-benar memilikisemangat eksistensialisme. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalahpendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang dianalisis adalah data deskriptif berupakata-kata tertulis yang perlu penafsiran karena penelitian ini berkaitan denganpendekatan filosofis dalam For Whom the Bell Tolls. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkanbahwa seorang pria sejati harus menyelesaikan tugas dan ia seharusnya tidakberharap apa-apa untuk dirinya sendiri. Meskipun kalah, dia masih bisa membuatsebagian besar hidupnya dengan melakukan beberapa tindakan yang bermanfaatbagi dirinya dan orang lain juga. Dan novel memiliki semangat eksistensialismesebagai menunjukkan oleh karakter utama dan tema. Menyelesaikan pendidikannya,penulis menyarankan pembaca dan siswa Program Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIPMataram; mempelajari biografi penulis dan latar belakang sosial-budaya novelsebelum mempelajarinya; mempelajari novel dengan penekanan pada aspek-aspeklain; dan cintailah sastra.Kata Kunci: Aspek Intrinsik, Eksistensialisme, Semangat.
