Abstract

Abstract

The condition of Buli Bay waters is very important to know and needed to support the utilization and management of coastal and marine resources in these waters.  Until now, information about the condition of Buli Bay waters is still very limited so this research becomes important.  This research aims to assess the condition of the Buli Bay waters East Halmahera based on species composition, abundance, and phytoplankton biological indexes.  The research was conducted in December 2014 in the waters of Buli Bay of East Halmahera Regency of North Maluku Province in 5 (five) stations.  Sampling phytoplankton using filtration method by making the plankton withdrawal horizontally for 5 minutes.  The results obtained 19 genera from two classes of phytoplankton namely Bacillariophyceae (10 genera) and Dinophyceae (9 genera).  During the research, the biological index values of phytoplankton were: diversity index (H') : 1.4942-2.0940, equitability index (E) : 0.7415 - 0.9284, and dominance index (D) : 0.1454-0.2893.  Conditions of Buli Bay waters based on the value of phytoplankton diversity index included in the category of waters with moderate fertility         Key words :  abundance, species composition, biology index, and Buli Bay

Abstract

Inventarization on mangrove species in Daruba and Wayabula, Morotai Island were carried out in September 2005. The Result showed that in Daruba found three species of mangrove namely Rhizophora apiculata, Soneratia alba, Bruguiera gymnorhiza with Rhizophora apiculata as dominant species on tree category level. For belta criteria found three species namely Rhizophora apiculata, Bruguiera gymnnorhiza and Ceriops tagal with Rhizophora apiculata as dominant species. In Wayabula also found three species namely Rhizophora apiculata, Sonneratia alba and Rhizophora stylosa, with Rhizophora apiculata as dominant species. While on belta category found two species namely Rhizophora apiculata and Bruguiera gymnorhiza with Rhizophora apiculata as dominant species. Mangrove zone not only grow in coastal area, but also grow behind the coastline. Mangrove species in Morotai Island have the labile character, but stay relative in the good enough condition. That way, this condition is need remain to be defended and guarded against by a local resident activity trouble in order to be regional ecosystem of coastal area in Morotai Island can be sustained well. Region in Morotai Island is draw to be developed to become the natural recreation object, because owning interesting nature panorama.

Abstract

Two specimens of Cantherhines multilineatus were collected from Girian Fish Market, Bitung, North Sulawesi on January 7 and August 18, 2009. It was caught from depths of about 20–30 m in association with other coral reef fishes. In the world, this species is found in many scattered locations in the Western Indian Ocean, Eastern Indian Ocean, Northwest Pacific and Western Central Pacific and its distribution was reported from Taiwan and Japan. Its morphological features and diagnostic characters are discussed and illustrated

Abstract

The Degree of Heavy Metals Pollution in Seawater and Sediment in the Waters of Muna, Kabaena and Buton Island, Norteast of Sulawesi. Muna, Kabaena, and Buton are islands found in Northeast of Sulawesi. One of them, namely Kabaena Island is island which has high Nickel content. Some of mining industries has explored the Nickel content in this area. Tailing come from mining thrown to the sea, will increase the heavy metals content in seawater and sediment in the waters of that third island, remembering the position of that third island not so far. In order to marine pollution monitoring by heavy metals, Research Center for Oceanography has done some marine research in the waters of that third island in April 2006. The aim of this research is to know the impact of Nickel mining activities to heavy metals content in seawater and sediment in that third waters. Heavy metals monitored is Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Ni. The results showed that the content of heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Ni in sea water still in line with the threshold value according to Kep MNLH No. 51, 2004 for sea biotas. The same condition also found in sediment, where the content of Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Ni is low relative, and still in line with heavy metals content found in normal seawater.
