Abstract

The research analyzes the chronology of the arrival of Austronesian speakers in the Java Sea Region, Indonesia, through absolute and relative dating analysis. Radiocarbon dating analysis of findings of human skeletons from research at the Leran and Plawangan Sites, Central Java Province, and the East Tamberu Site, East Java Province, shows significant dating, namely, far past historical times. Relative dating analysis is based on textual and artifactual data found contextually on Bawean Island in the Java Sea Region. The discovery of absolute and relative dating results can fill in the gaps in the chronology of the arrival of the Austronesian speakers in the Java Sea Region, the North Coast of Java, and the Madura Islands. Bawean Island is thought to be a transit area for Austronesian speakers, so absolute dating samples were taken from the closest and farthest sites from Bawean Island, namely Leran and Tamberu Timur sites. Meanwhile, 2 Long Grave Units were found on Bawean Island as relative dating samples. Both will provide information on the chronology of the arrival of Austronesian speakers in the Java Sea area.

Abstract

Early Colonization of the Austonesia the Southeast Part of Java: The Perspective of Kedenglembu Site. Until recently, the most widely accepted explanation for the case of Austronesian migration and colonization is Bellwood-Blust model, which are collaboration between archaeological data and historical linguistics. Based on linguistic evidence, Robert Blust (1985) proposed hypothesis about sub-group of Javanese language which comes from a community in the southern part of Borneo, around the estuary of Barito River. Based on those linguistic analysis results can be seen that the formation process of proto-language of Javanese, Balinese, Sasak and West Sumbawa occurred about 2500 BP. This paper will discuss some data from recent research at the Kendenglembu Site, Banyuwangi and its implications for hypothesis of the initial Austronesian colonization in the southeastern par of Java. Archaeological data from Kendenglembu Site indicating the Austronesian colonization of Java Island derived from the West Sulawesi. Meanwhile, AMS dating analysis results from Kendenglembu Site produce more young chronology, compared with linguistic dating by glotocronology method. Abstract

The life of the megalithic community carries out the tradition continuously until the influence of Hindu-Buddhist culture. Hinduization in this area was carried out by utilizing megalithic worship facilities, including mortar and phallus stones. The concept of worship that is used is still the same, namely fertility, a concept that is absolutely necessary in an agricultural society. The process of Hinduization can be seen in the use of stone mortar and phallus together, namely by erecting the phallus or menhirs into the mortar holes so that they resemble a lingga-yoni arrangement. Thus the phallus or menhir function represents the existence of the lingga, while the mortar function represents the presence of yoni. Lingga and yoni are objects as symbols in Hinduism.

Abstract

Based on a study of megalithic settlements at the Kodedek site, Bondowoso, East Java, it is known that the existence of megalithic culture at the site is still strong. In addition, in this paper it can be seen how the application of settlement studies at the meso / semi-micro level or at the site level spatial unit. It is hoped that future studies in the same area can bring this area within the framework of a macro-level settlement study or at a regional level spatial unit. Given that in the Bondowoso area there are a large number of similar sites.

Abstract

The megalithic structures on the peak of Mount Lawu are still used as places of worship by the people around Mount Lawu. This shows a tradition of worshiping ancestral spirits who use megalithic buildings as a means of worship ceremonies. It is very interesting that in today's worship ceremonies, the center of the ceremony is no longer in the Argo Dumilah but in the Argo Dalem Timur. In fact, based on the location of the distribution of structures, Argo Dalem Timur is located in a non-central stucture position or located around the central structure. This shows a shift in the center of the worship ceremony from the Argo Dumilah to the Argo Dalem Timur.
