Abstract

Abstract:  This research aims to identify the phytochemical content of Gayo tobacco or Bakong Gayo (Nicotiana tabacum L) using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) and its potential application in industry. Gayo tobacco was extracted using methanol solvent and characterized by GCMS using mode selection ion monitoring (SIM) which obtained twelve phytochemical contents in Gayo tobacco, were alkaloid, terpenoids, fatty acids and carbocyclic acid with the main compound being nicotine (40.58 %) and 4,8,13-duvatriene-1,3-diol (31.10 %). The twelve compounds identified can be applied as anticancer, insecticide, anti-depressant, sedative, anti-corrosion, aromatherapy and others based on the theory . All phytochemical compounds in Gayo tobacco allow it to be developed in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Abstract

This research aims to determine the impact of pretreatment on empty fruit bunches (EFB) of palm oil fibers before the pulping process on the quality of the molded pulp produced. The study includes EFB fiber pretreatment processes, pulp production, pulp molding, physical characteristic analysis, and molded pulp performance evaluation. The pulp production process involves acid-base hydrolysis reactions. The produced molded pulp is done manually. Characterization of the molded pulp includes measurements of paper grammage, thickness, density, and moisture content. The characteristics of pulp produced from pretreated EFB fibers are as follows: an average grammage value of 415.48 g/m, paper thickness of 1.53 mm, water absorption capacity of 13.33-33.33%, density of paper of 0,026 x 106 - 0,027 x 106 g/m3, and a smooth surface morphology. Meanwhile, the characteristics of pulp produced from without pretreatment EFB fibers include an average grammage value of 372.18 g/m, paper thickness of 0.77 mm, water absorption capacity of 20.34-43.21%, density of paper of 0,004 x 106 - 0,008 x 106 g/m3, and a rough surface morphology due to pores on the fiber surface.

Abstract

Tobacco plants are considered more destructive plants than medicinal plants. This research aims to analyze using GCMS (gas chromatography mass spectrometry) the leaves extract of Bakong Gayo or Gayo tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L) and its pharmaceutical uses. Extraction of Gayo tobacco leaves with chloroform solvent obtained 14 phytochemical compounds in the form of alkaloids, terpenoids and fatty acids. The phytochemical compounds in Gayo tobacco can be used as antibacterial, anticancer, anti-depressant, antioxidant, sedative, aromatherapy based on references and other potential to be developed as a medicinal plant.

Abstract

Demand for salt in Indonesia continues to increase, while local production has not kept up and therefore relies on imports. Salt production faces challenges such as weather dependency and the risk of soil mixtures that degrade product quality. This community empowerment program aims to improve the quality and quantity of hygienic salt production in business groups through the application of geomembrane technology, and increase production capacity to meet standards. The program methods include socialization, technical training on geomembrane installation, assistance in production, and evaluation. The results and impacts of the salt production process increased by 20%, salt products produced are whiter, hygienic, and meet SNI standards. In addition, the income of the business group increased by 50%. This production has successfully improved productin efficiency and the welfare of salt farmers. In the future, the group plans to expand the market, improve infrastructure, and submit products for formal certification. Geomemran technology has proven to be an effective and sustainable solution in supporting hygienic salt production.

Abstract

This study reports the synthesis and characterization of a monolithic activated carbon adsorbent modified with alumina and chitosan (Al-Chit/OAC), derived from oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB). The adsorbent was fabricated through pyrolysis, followed by alumina incorporation and chitosan impregnation. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of functional groups including OH stretching (3640cm), CH stretching (2920cm), CN/CO stretching (10551031cm), and AlO vibrations (693, 522, 495cm), indicating successful surface modification. TGA revealed two major stages of thermal degradation, with a total mass loss of 17.4% and a final residue of 17.55%, reflecting the presence of thermally stable inorganic components. SEM imaging showed a heterogeneous and porous surface with agglomerated particles and interparticle voids, suggesting enhanced surface accessibility. Even though we didn't test how well it absorbs substances, the physical and chemical properties of the composite show it could be very useful for cleaning up acid mine drainage (AMD) in the future. Further studies are recommended to validate its adsorption performance.
