Abstract

This article examines student politics articulated by university students in contemporary Ternate, North Maluku. The involvement of students in the political arena in the region is mostly organized through regional (ethnic) organizations. The larger context of such political process is decentralisation, which make religional resource  resources dominated by the state. At the same time competition among local elites and ethnic groups flourish. This is the main background of a new formation of group interests in local level –-including local university students-- to gain group advantages. The case of Ternate, North Maluku, is an example of how groups of students organize their practical interests in the arena of politics by exploiting youth associations and ethnic organizations.

Abstract

This article is about Minahasa, an ethnic group in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. This article analyzes the dynamics of Minahasan collective actions in early 2000 in responding to the sectarian debates throughout the Indonesian archipelago where the issues of religion and ethnicity are flourishing. I draw on case studies from Kongres Minahasa Raya (the Great Congress of Minahasan) as entry point to explore the ways Minahasans have been peacefully demanding serious attention to and clarification on constitutionally-based provisions of citizenship in Indonesia. It is my hope that this article will show how such “collective strategies” are created and maintained by Minahasans. This is an example of an ongoing feature of how citizens’ arenas and rights are contested in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

The coastal area of Pohuwato, Tomini Bay, degrades, in which the mangrove forests has been converted into fishpond. During the last ten years, the mangrove forest has widely converted into fishfond. The expansion of fishpond area is widely due to the presence of migrants fom South Sulawesi. The process is not simple, in which the locals formerly rent it to the migrants and eventually sell it to them. Uniquely, the migrants’ economic ethos in fishfond activities is well-recognized by the locals. The empowerment of coastal community, therefore, should consider the diversity of their jobs, culture, and livelihood. This paper examines the development of migrants’ economic expansion in the coastal area of Tanjung Panjang, Pohuwato. Keywords: migrant, fishpond, Tanjung Panjang, economic culture, Pohuwato, Tomini Bay

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to develop an engaging and interactive concrete learning medium in the form of a replica map of Indonesian cultural diversity for fourth-grade students in the IPAS subject, specifically on Indonesian cultural wealth, at SD Negeri 17 Tilamuta. The research employs the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The validation results indicate that the developed media is highly feasible, while practicality tests show that the media is very practical to use. Implementation analysis reveals that the use of the replica map of Indonesian cultural diversity successfully transformed the previously monotonous learning process into a more interactive and collaborative one. Students were directly involved in recognizing Indonesia’s cultural diversity through the replica map. Although its application received positive responses from both teachers and students, the media has limitations due to its still-limited trials, necessitating further development. Thus, the developed learning medium is not only feasible and practical for use in IPAS instruction but also serves as an innovative solution for introducing national culture, paving the way for broader and more sustainable implementation.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a pop-up book as learning medium for the IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) subject on the topic of Indonesian cultural heritage for fourth-grade students SDN No. 89 Sipatana Gorontalo City. The objective is to create a medium that meets both feasibility and practicality criteria. The research adopts the ADDIE development model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The feasibility of the pop-up book was assessed through expert validation involving media experts, content experts, and user experts (teachers). The results indicate that the pop-up book effectively captures students’ attention during the learning process. During a limited trial, students demonstrated positive responses, as reflected in both their active engagement in learning and responses to the distributed questionnaires. Additionally, teachers reported that the medium facilitated the teaching process, particularly in delivering abstract content. However, the study also identified a limitation in the material durability of the pop-up book, which may require extra maintenance when used repeatedly.  Despite this limitation, the findings suggest that the use of pop-up books can serve as an effective instructional strategy in IPAS learning, especially for topics related to Indonesian cultural heritage.
