Abstract

Around 30–80% of women of reproductive age experience physical and psychological Premenstual Syndrome (PMS) symptoms, including anxiety, for which lavender aromatherapy is a recommended complementary treatment. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of aromatherapy on the anxiety levels of female students during PMS. Methods this research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental approach using a Pretest-Posttest design without a control group. The study was conducted at SMK from August 1 to October 25, 2022. The population consisted of all female students in grade X who had experienced menarche, totaling 85 students aged 13-17 years old. Data collection was done using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire, comprising 14 standard questions. Univariate and bivariate analyses were conducted using the T-Test. The results revealed a p-value of 0.000, which is less than α (0.05), indicating that lavender aromatherapy had a significant effect on reducing anxiety levels in female students during PMS. Before the treatment, most respondents experienced moderate anxiety, but after the aromatherapy, more respondents shifted to experiencing mild anxiety. Lavender aromatherapy is significantly effective in reducing anxiety levels in female students during premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

Abstract

Abstract: Globally, approximately 10% of pregnant women experience mental health disorders prior to the pandemic, with anxiety levels at 16%, which escalated to 57% during the COVID-19 pandemic. This increase in symptoms of depression and anxiety has been associated with a heightened risk of postpartum depression. Knowledge related to COVID-19 has been identified as a factor influencing anxiety among pregnant women. This study aims to examine the relationship between pregnant women's knowledge prior to delivery and their anxiety levels during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research employed an analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach, utilizing both online and offline questionnaires for data collection. The sample was selected using accidental sampling, comprising 87 pregnant women. The findings indicate a significant relationship between knowledge and anxiety, with a p-value of 0.012 and an odds ratio (OR) of 4.880. Pregnant women with higher knowledge levels were 4.880 times more likely to experience reduced anxiety. These results suggest that increased knowledge among pregnant women is associated with lower anxiety levels, highlighting the importance of anxiety screening to enable monitoring and prevent anxiety during pregnancy.Abstrak: Secara global sekitar 10% ibu hamil menderita gangguan mental sebelum pandemi, dan tingkat kecemasan sebesar 16% dan meningkat menjadi 57% pada masa pandemi COVDI-19. Abstract

Background: Premarital teenage pregnancy is a global phenomenon that has significant physical, psychological, and educational impacts. This study was conducted to explore the situation faced by teenagers who experienced pregnancy before marriage and consequently dropped out of school. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the experiences, challenges, and impacts faced by premarital pregnant teenagers who drop out of school. Methods: This study employed an exploratory qualitative design using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. Participants included 20 pregnant teenagers, triangulated with 4 school teachers and 4 midwives. The study was conducted in Bekasi Regency from July to October 2024. Semi-structured interviews were carried out using a voice recorder, and the data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s Method. Results: The findings revealed five main themes: (1) unwanted pregnancy, (2) the effect of pregnancy on education, (3) support and discrimination, (4) physical and emotional impact, and (5) self-acceptance. Conclusion: This study shows that premarital teenage pregnancy leading to school dropout results in stigma, social pressure, educational disruption, and mental health challenges. Addressing this issue requires collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and the community by improving access to healthcare services and psychological counseling to support pregnant teenagers in continuing their education. Novelty: This study provides new insights into the lived experiences of premarital pregnant teenagers who drop out of school in an Indonesian context an area rarely explored in existing literature. Unlike most previous studies focusing on health outcomes, this research highlights the intersection between pregnancy, educational discontinuation, and psychosocial adjustment, offering culturally grounded evidence for designing inclusive school re-entry and adolescent reproductive health policies.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that remains a major public health challenge in Indonesia, including in Kebalen Village, Babelan District. One innovative effort to prevent stunting is through education on supplementary feeding (PMT) using local herbal ingredients that are rich in nutrients and easily accessible. This program aimed to improve the knowledge and awareness of mothers with toddlers regarding balanced nutrition and the use of herbal ingredients to support child growth. The methods included education sessions, training, and demonstrations on preparing herbal-based PMT, involving 32 mothers as participants. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in knowledge, with the “good” category increasing from 15.6% to 31.2%, and the “poor” category decreasing from 53.1% to 12.6%. This education also successfully encouraged the practice of providing nutritious and natural food at the household level. In conclusion, herbal-based PMT education is an effective and sustainable strategy for community-based stunting prevention, especially in rural areas.
